Chapter 460 Glad

Chapter 460 Glad
AMELIA

It's quarter to midnight.

The clock is ticking and my heart is racing. I'm ready, my small gun is hidden in my underwear. I've made sure to wear an extra tight pair just for the occasion. The dress is scarlet and flowy, perfect for tonight.

I'm waiting for him in the lobby. This time, I'm early. It makes me feel more in control of the situation even though that's far from the truth. I take a small sip of champagne and look back at the entrance. My heart's in my throat, making it hard for me to breathe. I have to remain cool, though. There's a lot at stake.

Everything depends on this.

"Anything else?" the bartender asks me while pouring someone else a drink. I shake my head, I can't even speak at a time like this.

I'm taking another sip of champagne when I finally spot him. There are two men walking behind him. He's saying something to them as he looks around. For me, no doubt. I fix my gaze on him and hold my breath as I wait for him to see me. He doesn't, which is fairly disappointing because I wasn't planning on going to him. It seems I don't have a choice.

I pay for my drink and climb down from the stool. He's still waiting by the entrance with his hands deep in his pockets. The two guys that were with him have disappeared. I'm standing right behind him now, and I allow myself to fantasize about grabbing my gun and shooting him right here. It's impossible, though, because there are too many people here. I'd go to jail and ruin my whole life. No, I need a better plan. I can't shoot him here.

Frankly, I don't know if I have the courage to shoot him at all.

I clear my throat and he instantly looks back at me. I can tell by the way he raised his brows that he's surprised. He wasn't expecting me to be here. To my relief, he's glad to see me. He says, "You're here."

"I am." I keep my tone neutral and my expression blank. At least, I hope so. "I have some questions for you."

"I'll gladly answer them," he offers me his arm. I have no choice but to take it. "Upstairs?"

I look around once before walking alongside him. I'm hoping to see Devon, but he isn't here. He's nowhere to be seen and this amplifies my trepidation. What was his grand plan, after all? I should've known better. He wouldn't help me, or would he? I regret to admit that there's still hope left in me. I haven't given up on him yet. Maybe I can't bear the thought to, because then I'd truly be on my own. Now that Ash is here, my courage is diminishing by the minute. Is this going to work?

Am I going to end this tonight?

We're in the elevator. I can barely look anywhere, I'm lost in my thoughts. Ash straightens his tie and says, "I'm glad you're here, Mrs. Keller. I sincerely thought that you weren't going to come."

"Why'd you let Ethan go?" I ask. "What were you trying to prove."

I can hear the smile in his words. "Simple, I wanted to know if I could trust you. I hate negotiating with liars. You're a woman of your word. I'm impressed."

"Is that all you were trying to accomplish?" I ask, finally looking at him. The way he's looking at me is giving me chills. His pupils are dilated and I can't help but feel like he'll pounce on me at any second, like a starving predator. The elevator doors open and we step out. I follow him to his room, which is right next to mine.

He never answers my question.

He opens the door and gestures for me to go inside. I hesitate before I do. I glance back at the corridor. I could still run. He'd catch me, but I could try.

"After you," he says.

I walk past him and slowly make my way inside his hotel room. I hear the door close behind me. He locks it, to my dismay. I had hoped that maybe Devon would burst through the doors with help. I mean, that could still happen, but the chances are slimmer now than ever before.

Maybe I just need to accept the fact that he isn't coming, that he lied to me. That this is some petty revenge because of what Damien did to him. That's probable, I feared it would happen. Disappointment washes over me, but I have to find a way out of this mess.

There's only one way out.

This suite looks just like mine; there are the French doors that lead to a spacious balcony on my left-hand side and the bed is to my right. It's king-sized bed covered with a white duvet cover with a blue trim. The floor beneath my heels is carpeted and there's a flat screen TV mounted on the wall right across the bed. He comes up behind me. He's so close that I can feel his warm breath on the nape of my neck.

He says, "I'm really glad you're here, Amelia."
