Chapter 29 : Will You Burn Me?
Chapter 29: Will You Burn Me?
Sophie
I looked down at Luciano’s shoulder and it was covered in a bandage. He was the one that saved me, he had minor burns too. He had managed to enter my apartment and take us both out through the window, a five-floor drop. He must have cushioned me with his body and ended up with getting his shoulder hurt.
“It was a dislocated shoulder and about three shards of glass embedded in it. It had a minor knee sprain, the damage is remarkably less for a five floor drop.” Mr. Wilson was saying from where he was leaning against the door frame. I couldn't move my eyes away from the bondage.
“Don't cry,” he said, wiping my tears away before looking at Mr. Wilson.
“Leave us, Abel.”
He left the room and Luciano using one arm somehow picked me up and sagged me down on his lap.
“Don't cry,” he kissed my tears away.
“How could I not save my little baby girl, huh? I was the one closest to your apartment.” I sniffed.
“But you got hurt.” I had some scratches on me but that was it. His injury must hurt a lot.
“I have been hurt worse.” He said, I looked up at him. His jaw was hardened as he looked away from me.
“You like me,” I said, frowning.
“That is why you do this?” He raised an eyebrow, that far away look in front his eye disappeared and jaw loosening.
“I like you?” He gasped.
“What gave that away? The knee of the shoulder?” I chuckled. He kisses my forehead.
“Yes, baby girl. I really like you.” I brushed my hand on the edge of his bandage.
“Thank you,” I whispered.
“I..” tears filled my eyes again.
“You are so good to me.” He cupped my face, smiling softly.
“What else is worth being good for other than you, Sophie?” He said and my face reddened and I hugged him tightly.
“Why?” I muttered. They had just asked me to stay with them for one month. They looked at each other.
“Because, Sophie…” Adriano took his phone out of the pocket of his jacket and kept it down on the table.
It was a picture of the rings that was kept on a familiar symbol. It first appeared in ancient Greek art, it represented all four elements of earth and twelve major olympian gods and goddesses. I knew school had to help somewhere. The symbol was currently used and represented one of the deadliest mafia in the world. The Fraternity, I looked at them.
“The Fraternity mafia?” I said and they all nodded.
“It is after our mafia.” Angelo said.
“We have had trouble with them since I suppose, our mafia was created.”
“The Shadow Syndicate was actually started by a woman.” Adriano said, I listened closely, putting my elbows on the counter.
“She married an Abu Dhabi man, hence why their mafia terms are still used in our mafia.”
“That woman was loved by another.” Luciano titled his head.
“A Jumeirah man, the family which leads Fraternity and war has been raging between the two families for years.”
“Love starts the deadliest wars.” Angelo said, his eyes so intense that I had to look away.
“Now they want to hurt us.” He added.
“Wby you?” I asked.
“Shouldn't be after your Don?”
“Our Don is untouchable.” Luciano replied.
“He has no weakness and we are his second-in-command.” He gave me a bitter smile that told me he didn't like being second-in-command. I could not imagine the Rizzo's taking orders from anyone, I didn't want them to take orders from anyone. I must have hit my head.
“So,they are planning on hurting us.” Adriano said, standing up to walk to the large fridge in their large modern kitchen.
“By hurting you.” He opened the fridge and took out a cup of ice cream and a few bars of chocolate and placed them on the counter.
“Does this bribe you a little into staying?”
“Yes,” I frowned.
“I don't get it, I am sure you have more important people in your life than me. I am a twenty year old college student who doesn't even get her paintings selected.”
I felt emotionally drained after what had happened, I felt like I needed to sleep for a year or something. I knew I should have a worse reaction to the freaking Fraternity waiting to hurt me.
“They are dangerous, Sophie.” Angelo said, taking my hand in his and kissing the tips of my fingers.
“We will keep you safe, you know that, right?” I nodded, I knew that I was safe with them.
After what Luciano had done, them keeping me safe was something I was most sure of in the world. He could have died. I swallowed harshly.
“All my things were burnt in the fire.” I whispered.
“I will have to apply for an identity card and get my school books again and I need to know everything.”
I am going to beg my mother for money now? My eyes widened.
“Sarah is going to kill me, I need a phone.”
Luciano unlocked his phone and kept it in my hand and I was taken aback a little by it. If I ever gave my phone to someone, I would have to remove a lot of tabs before. I don't search dirty stuff but I search a lot of weird things. I punched in Sarah’s phone number and called her as Adriano removed the lid of the ice cream and handed me a spoon.
“Hello?” She said as she picked up the call.
“You fucking bitch!” I switched, taking a small bit of the ice cream and the taste wasn't that bad.
Sar..”
“I thought you died!” She screamed.
“I am fine.” I replied.
“I am killing you the next time I see you.” She muttered.
“Will you burn me?”
“No fucking way.” She grumbled.
“I am sorry,” I muttered.
“You are okay, right?”
“Yes, I am fine.” I replied.
“Thank goodness.” I heard her take a deep breath and then I heard someone say something but I couldn't understand what.
“I have to deal with someone, be careful.”
“Okay, I love you, Sarah.”
“I love you too, you idiot.”
I hung up the call and gave Luciano his phone back. They were looking at me with an intense gaze. Is it because I said I love you to Sarah? Are they jealous or something? I didn't understand all of this.
