Chapter 228: I Don't Appreciate Being Lied To

Jessica

The building was broken, shattered and half of it stood. The other half didn't, vines crawled up the broken walls. It had been a mansion, now it was wrecked. Where am I?

“Do you know where you are?” Kane asked.

I didn't know, he looked down at me as he opened the door of an unshattered room. He didn't tell me though, the bed was ruffled. I breathed through the panic, it won't hurt, it is nothing. I was nothing. He sat me down on the bed, I huddled against the headboard and my eyes burning. He looked at me, and kept looking at me.

“This is Rizzo's bombed mansion.” He said, putting his hand in the pocket of his trousers.

“You are shaking, Jessica.” A smirk came onto his lips.

“You have let me touch you before, would it be too hard now?”

“She is going to kill us.” I whispered.

“And you helped her, yes, it would be too bad now.”  I muttered and he walked closer to me.

“I cared for you.”

“All you are is a liar.”

“Those were bold words for someone bound.” He sat on the edge of the bed, rubbing his jaw. He looked so much like Chase and at the same time he didn't.

“Do you remember the poem you were reading the day we met? You said it was your favorite for the day?”

“I hate it now.” I had no idea which poem I had been reading. He chuckled, glancing at me.

“The place where the sidewalk ends.” He muttered.

“You said, it was basic yet brilliant.”

I don't know what he was getting at.

“You always had a way with words, I found that fascinating about you.”

I stayed silent, was this somehow supposed to ease me? He looked at me, beautiful and horrible.

“Troye, he was in. Did he ever tell you that?”

He didn't, I didn't say anything. I was just watching him.

“You mafia saved him from his father, he joined your mafia.” He stood up, sighing.

“He is my half-brother, the only one Miller will listen to after my father is dead.” He paused.

After I am dead.”

“What?” I asked. He gave me a smile, this one was familiar.

“I, as you used to say a million times when we were together, am a stupid fool?” He said softly.

“This may end badly.”

“Chase…”

“They will be here soon.” He said and began loosening the ropes.

“When I say run, you run like hell.”

“What about Evelyn?” I asked and his lips pressed in a thin line.

“I can't save everyone.”

“But she is my friend.” He kept looking at me.

“I will try but my priority is you.”

Logan POV

The ruins of the mansion looked like they housed no one till we sneaked closer. The night had fallen and my fear increased. Luciano glanced at me and nodded once, the bombed mansion was surrounded. Adriano looked bloodthirsty, Callan looked to him on the brink of madness. Abel looked at me and then at the mansion.

“The soldiers they have, I killed them. Most of them worked under the people you killed. Some are those who followed Kane when he left the Millers.”

That is fucking great. I briefly thought about the message Callan had gotten.

‘I will get her out, just play along.’

Why would Kane suddenly play the white knight? I didn't know but I would blow his fucking brains out with a gun the second I got my hands on him. No light blinked and then she appeared, a dark silhouette, two men beside her, holding two women. They were holding her, my Jessica. I crushed the anger down and I approached. I knew she must have had someone watching the roads. Callan and Lucas were right beside me, Luciano, Adriano and Abel were behind us, followed by a few more men. More men appeared on her side, I recognized some and my hands twisted. She looked at us, I didn't look at her, I looked at Jessica.

My eyes were wide with fear as Kane held her against him. She was just a few feet apart and yet a million miles away. l looked at Emma.

“We are here,” I said.

“You brought an army.”

“You should make instructions clear, sister.” Callan said, smiling.

“Exchanges are a hassle.” He looked at Kane.

“Your father is dead, Kane.” Callan informed him.  Violence shimmered in his eyes but he spoke nothing and Emma smiled.

“It was supposed to be a simple exchange but you are forcing my hands.” She folded her arms against her chest so much like how our mother did it. If we had been normal, would she have turned out like this?

If we had found her, would she have turned out like this? With this much madness inside of her? I don't know the answer, I didn't want to know either. I want my woman safe.

“You are surrounded.” I said.

“I don't see how you plan on getting out of this alive, much less killing us.” She smiled.

“I have allies.”

“More traitorous men?” Callan asked.

“The Taghis.” She said.

I felt it before I saw it, a gun pointed at the back of my neck. A perfect practiced aim, I turned, three people stood there in front, followed by my arms men. Raphael Romano.

“I don't appreciate being lied to.” He said, walking closer.

“You shouldn't have killed Kane’s father.”

I looked at Jessica, she held my gaze and tears brimming out. I tried to tell her as much as I could through my eyes.

“Call off your men.” Emma said and took out a sleek golden gun from her coat, pointing it at Jessica.

“Now,”

Luciano nodded once at Abel

“Put your weapons down.” He said and we all did.

“Grab them,” she muttered to her men. Several approached us, I could take them all down but that golden gun was too dangerous.

Precious tears rolled out of Jessica’s eyes as she closed her eyes. The men forced us down on our knees, no one struggled. We needed a chance, one window and one moment.
