Chapter 43 A narrow escape
Chapter 43 A narrow escape
Asha
"What's a pretty little thing like you doing in the middle of nowhere? Don't you fear for your life?" A gruff voice asks.
I swallow back the lump that's already forming in my throat. I bite my lower lip, the back of my eyes burning with tears already.
He immediately grabs my arm, and spins me around in one smooth motion. He roughly grabs my chin, and makes me look at him.
He has dirty red hair that falls over his forehead, almost touching his dark red eyes. His nose is wide, and his blistered lips are a little too full. He reeks of carelessness, and danger.
"Hmm, you're the prettiest omega I've ever seen. Jeez, why didn't you come sooner?" He cackles maniacally, tugging me forward by my chin.
I fall into his stinky, uncomforting embrace. He ruffles my hair, still cackling like a madman.
"Ah, the gods have finally answered my prayers. It's been a while since I was able to cure myself of a cold."
My knees almost give out. Is.. he talking about wanting to rape me?
Tears blur my vision, "Please.. let me go."
His eyes darken, "You walked here yourself. I didn't force you to come here, did I?" He lets go of my chin, and pulls me away from his embrace.
A whiff of fresh air gets knocked back into my lungs. Fuck, I'm sure I would have died if I stayed in his embrace for one more minute.
He grabs my wrist, his grip unnaturally firm. He pulls me along with him. All my efforts to resist are futile. He's just too strong.
My heart drops to my stomach, the acid in it melting it to nothing. My head is blaring with warning alarms, the bells going off too loudly.
Lucien had warned me. Why.. why the fuck didn't I just listen?
"Sir, please, I promise. It was a mistake. This was by mistake."
"Your mistake has become my blessing. I don't care if it was a mistake or not."
I dig my lips into my teeth, thinking of a plan. Ain't no way I'm letting this man take me somewhere I don't know of.
Asha, my love.
Oh Lucien! Oh my goodness, my knight in shining armor! Well, in shining fur, maybe.
Lucien, please help! What should I do?'
Use your hairpin. Use it as your weapon. Stab his wrist, and poke his eyes.
My ears perk up at his suggestion. My hairpin, why didn't I think of that?
With my free hand, I stealthily remove the hairpin that's holding my hair up. Lucky for me, I'd decided to use it for my messy bun. Everything does happen for a reason.
With one smooth motion, I jab his wrist as hard as I can. He yelps, immediately releasing his grip on my wrist. When he turns around, I immediately go for his eyes before he can react.
He gives another scream of pain as he staggers around blindly.
Without wasting any more time, I make a run for it. I run as hard as I can.
"Sylvester! Come here! Get the girl!"
Oh fuck, he had a backup!
I increase my pace. Fortunately, my legs are as light as feather. Thank the goddess I didn't have breakfast this morning.
I take a quick turn before the other guy can notice me. I don't look back, I just keep running. My heart pounds loudly in my ears. A cold sweat breaks out on my forehead, the cold liquid dripping down my cheeks.
"Lucien, Lola, please help me. I know I was stupid for shutting you both out, please help me!" I cry out in frustration.
You're too stubborn for your own good.
Lola's stern voice pops up.
"Now's not the time for scolding. Please, where's the way out of here?"
Heavy footsteps fill the air behind me. I glance behind me to see two huge men charging at me.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck!
"Help!"
Asha love, take right! There's an entanglement of vines in that path, but there's a cutting beneath it. It's big enough for you, but too small for your pursuers.
I take the next right turn that comes into view. Sure enough; there's an entanglement of vines.
"I don't remember seeing an entanglement of vines!" I whimper, already pitying myself.
Just do what he says. Stop doubting for once.
I sniffle, rushing towards the entanglement. I spot the cutting beneath it, and run through it.
I can hear their voices approaching, swearing sexual slurs.
You're out of their reach now, my love, everything's fine for now.
However, I don't stop running. I keep my race until I get to another turn out of their hawk eyes.
I slow down, stooping down to hold my knees, and catch my breath.
"Oh goodness, I was so close to being raped and killed!" I let out a breath I didn't realize I'd been holding.
I heave in another breath of air. The drag is painful passing through my nostrils that are prickling with a thousand invisible tiny needles.
You couldn't even say thank you! Lucien, you shouldn't help her next time!
Lola, as always, lashes out at me.
I can't do that to one I love.
He replies.
His comment makes me blush a little despite my current situation.
Don't you love me too?
She whines pathetically.
Of course I do. I love you both.
He tries to explain, but Lola's snaps cut him off. She whines as though he doesn't give her enough attention.
So much for someone who thought he was annoying earlier.
I straighten myself, forcing my legs to drag me along the path. My legs are burning wildly from the sudden burst of adrenaline I got earlier.
"I should listen to these two next time," I say, holding my throbbing head.
Exactly! You should always listen to your superiors.
She chips in, and I can feel the smirk in her voice.
Fucker.
I keep on walking without a clue on where I am, but at least I'm away from those guys.
The rustle of bushes nearby snaps me out of my thoughts. I jerk aside, holding my hairpin in front of me as defence.
A figure slowly approaches from behind the bushes. My heart leaps to my throat, hammering there maniacally.
I prepare to throw my hairpin at whoever it is, when someone familiar emerges.
I drop my hairpin, my jaws dropping, "Raze?"
