Chapter 34 Is he running away?
Auren
I stop the pliers just a few inches away from his mouth, "Oh really? Start talking then," I give him a pat on the shoulder, "Good boy."
He drags in a heavy breath, "I—"
"Yes?" I arch my brow impatiently.
"Bran wasn't lying when he said Rheagar ran away to the South. That was true."
I bite back a curse, and force myself to listen to him without interrupting.
"We first hid out in a small abandoned camp, but Rheagar was too quick and unsettled, so he decided to leave with some of his most trusted men, while telling the rest of us to disband, and go our separate ways but never to disclose where he went to."
I blink back my irritation, "You're saying, you don't know where he went to?" I hold up the pliers close to his face.
"I- I do," he stutters, cowering his shoulders.
"Then where is he?" I suppress the itching need to yell.
"Silver Crest pack," he says.
"Silver crest pack?" Raze wrenches the question out of my mouth.
"Yes," he nods.
"What would he be doing there? That's odd," Raze gives me a troubled look.
I hold my head, as if trying to pluck out my frustration.
That's where Asha's from. Most importantly, that's why my other core enemy lives.
"That I don't know. I only know he went to Silver Crest pack. Probably to seek some refuge from their Alpha, since Rheagar can be smooth with talking."
"He's smarter than I thought he'd be," I bite my lower lip, "Why would he run away? What is he running from?" I force a smirk on my lips which doesn't reach my eyes.
"I— I don't know," he chokes on his words, coughing out blood.
I exhale heavily, "If he's in Silver Crest pack.. how did he meet with Asha?" I lower my voice.
I hold my chin, pinching my brows together in confusion. Rage keeps pumping harder in my veins each time I think of how he tried to get to me through Asha.
I face Derek, holding the pliers to his neck, "Are you lying to me? Because if I find out you are, I'll rip your head off and send it back to your family."
"I swear on my life," he drags in quick, short breaths, his eyes flicking down to look at the pliers.
"Silver Crest pack," I repeat, "Why would he be there? That's why my other enemy is," I hiss, "Is he trying to seek some sort of alliance, so they join hands together against me?"
"I think that might be the case boss," Raze chips in.
I glance at bloodied Derek, "Take him away. He might be useful later. For now, I need to protect myself from the incoming danger that's bound to strike soon."
Two of my men drag him away. Derek keeps kicking, and screaming some words I can't understand.
"Boss, I think it's time you protect Asha more than ever. We don't know what his next move will be."
I nod, "I know that," I spin on my heels, walking back to the house, "Trace where he's currently hiding out in Silver Crest pack and report back to me. If possible, you can find out who's harboring him, or who's probably aiding him. Find that out as soon as possible."
"Yes boss, on it," he gives me a slight bow, then turns away.
"How unfortunate Asha has to be in the middle of all these," I click my teeth.
I hold my throbbing head. I can't wait to kill Rheagar and end his stupid rivalry. He makes everything harder for me, and hell I don't like it.
I take the stairs back to my bedroom, my head still spiraling with thoughts.
What must have gotten into him? How come he's moving from place to place? Or is he running away from me?
The last question makes me pause. I stroke my chin, deep in thought.
"Why would he run away from me?" I mumble, kicking my feet, "Is he already scared of me?"
The thought of that makes my head swell with pride.
"Focus," I shake the thought out of my head. If I let pride bring my guard down, it would end well for me.
I push open the bedroom door. The bed is empty, and Asha doesn't seem to be in the room.
I furrow my brows, walking further into the room.
"Asha?" I call out.
"Are you in the bathroom?" I walk towards the bathroom, and open the door, peeking my head inside.
She isn't there.
"Asha?"
What the fuck? Why isn't she here?
My chest tightens with a familiar feeling of dread. I swallow back the lump that's forming in my chest. I walk back outside, heading to the kitchen.
She probably went down to get some snacks. I take a few steps forward, then pause.
"If she's in the kitchen, then there's no need to stress so much," I rake my hair, "She'll definitely come back," I turn around on my heels, heading back to the room.
"Boss!" Aidan screams from behind me.
I swiftly turn around, a little startled.
"It's Miss Asha! I think there's something wrong!"
My heart drops to my stomach, "What happened to her?"
"She broke out running towards the fence, breaking through it. We tried to chase her, but we couldn't catch her. I don't know if my eyes were playing with me, but I'm sure we saw her slowly shifting."
The blood in my veins runs cold. Beads of perspiration break out on my forehead. My heart thuds wildly, skips a few beats, then picks up a hammering pace.
"You saw her shifting, you say?" I ask him, my voice filled with quiet dread.
He nods frantically, "We're wondering why when it's not even the full moon yet."
I palm her forehead, then begin to race towards the stairs, "Lucien is taking control of her body!"
He rushes behind me, "What the—"
"Quick! Send out the rest and see if you can go ahead of her and block her path! Lucien is most probably heading towards the Red River. Go, go, go!"
"Yes boss!" He dashes past me.
