Chapter 41 the plan
Chapter 41: Asher
"I am not here to admit anything!" I growled, glaring at her.
But she didn't even seem moved. Her calm demeanor remained never shifting.
"Oh, really... Yet you came all the way, risking our mission just so you could find out who poisoned her?"
"Willow, do not play games with me." I hissed, pointing a warning finger at her. "You know exactly why I am here. So give me the answers, now!"
"Or what?" She shrugged, a mischievous grin on her face. "You'd cut off our deal?"
My head almost exploded in shockwaves of anger. "Willow!" I growled warning her.
"Fine!" She finally let out, raising her long clothed hands in defense. "I only wanted to move our plan a little faster since you were having problems."
My eyes narrowed and my heart began to race in my chest. "What do you mean... What did you do?"
"Well, the key to our victory is the very girl you are trying so hard to protect. So I took matters into my own hands and I paid one of those whores you had to set a trap in the glass wears... I was just lucky the foolish girl got injured."
My vision instantly darkened as the rage built up and threatened to swallow me whole.
Before I could stop myself, my hands wrapped around her neck in a sudden move that— even she didn't see coming.
"Asher!" She squealed under my fingers.
"You decided to poison all the glasses in my party... Did you think for a second that I could have been the one injured? That I could have been the one to die? Or is that your plan?"
"Asher... Calm down... We are partners. We need each other. Do not act through your heart—"
"This is not about acting through my heart, woman!" I roared, causing her to instantly seal her lips. "This is about you thinking you are a master at this! Have you forgotten how I helped you? Without me, you would have been dead!"
The grin on her face washed off and her eyes turned beady as if my words had touched a soft sport.
"Your ancestors will be rolling in their grave in this moment if they could see how you are defending her— the daughter of our enemy."
"Do not fucking change the subject!"
"I am not changing the subject. I am only pointing out the fact, here. You are derailing our objective. You are softening for the girl. Yet you deny it!" She spat.
"Don't you get it Willow, I could have been the victim!"
"But you weren't!" She spat back. "And if you were, my minion would have given you the antidote! You were never the target, your little mate was!"
"And if she had died?" The moment the question left my lips, I knew I had fucked up. Willow knew this too.
Her eyes brightened. "You see... You are softening young King. Next thing you'll come to me saying you don't want the Kingdom anymore... All you want is your darling little mate."
Irritated, I pulled back my claws from her neck and took a step back, feeling suddenly overwhelmed by her words. She was right.
If I continued like this, I could one day forget about my goals...
"You have to be brave. Breaking off from the bond is never an easy one... Talon could never break ours but he managed to forget me, you know how?" She whispered.
I raised my head to her and she nodded.
"Talon got himself a little human girl. One who made his cock tingle with need. A quiet little vermin that managed to sever our bond."
My eyes narrowed as her words suddenly made sense. "Queen Avalyn was never King Talon's true mate?"
"No, that bitch could never get the favour of the goddess." Willow hissed. "But in your case, let's hope the human should be talented enough to sneak her way through your heart and leave your cock feeling tingles."
My fingers went into my hair as I slowly considered the possibility. I needed to forget Scarlett.
I needed to stay focused on my goal and if getting some human girl would help me sever the bond I shared with Scarlett then so be it.
"I'll work on it," I mumbled as I turned to leave but Willow held back my arm.
"Oh, but you don't have to stress over such matters when you have a partner like me... I have just the right girl for you..."
A scowl instantly sat on my face as I snatched my hand out of her hold. "I can get myself a girl, Willow. I don't need your help."
"Don't you ever think?!" She snapped. "If you go around buying human slaves the news will get to her brother! All human merchants communicate with that stupid boy!"
My legs paused as it hit me. She was right. Damn it.
"Oh, don't stress my dear Asher. Like I said, this is one of the advantages of having me as your partner... As we speak, the girl is already in your car. Waiting... You don't have to be worried. She is a professional and she'll steal your heart in no time," she said, letting out a dry chuckle.
My brows furrowed at her and I felt something within me shift. An anxiety about what I was about to do.
"Fine. Let's see how it goes." I hissed as I walked out of there, my brain working as fast as a machine to figure out what girl Willow got me.
But the moment I got to the car, my hands folded into fists. When Willow said professional, I should have known.
It was the same girl I fucked earlier. Her supposed minion, who poisoned the glasses in my house!
Keeping that irritation aside, I closed up the distance between us and the girl quickly bowed.
I took a moment to take a very good look at her. From her colored red hair to the shape of her body. Her curves and the large size of her breasts...
She was beautiful in human standards and maybe she could pass as basic for a werewolf but she didn't come close to Scarlett...
"I am sorry about earlier, my King," She whispered. "Lady Willow made me do it... It was either that or my brother... I am so sorry."
My wolf growled, hating the fact that Willow had to threaten her.
"Where is your brother now?" I asked, watching her closely.
She stole a quick glance at me as if she wasn't expecting me to ask that. "He is— he is back in the city."
"Okay," I nodded. "Do you know why you are here?"
"Yes, my king... She wants me to be your personal callgirl."
A shiver ran down my spine and I couldn't hold the conversation anymore. I frowned and got into the car, signalling to her to do the same.
"My name is Angel," She whispered as we settled in the car.
I barely grunted, focusing all my senses on the road ahead, rejecting my wolf's need to give me a lecture about what I was doing.
Thankfully, the girl was also quiet on her seat. Making herself almost invisible till we got back to the palace.
As I parked the car into the garage, I could already see Albert at the entrance waiting for me. My heart skipped but I stayed calm, refusing to think.
"Come with me," I said to Angel as I began to walk towards the entrance, unable to escape Albert.
"My king, we have great news! Fiona was able to get the cure. Scarlett is recovering perfectly well. You should—"
"Get someone to move, Angel here into one of the empty rooms on my floor..." I said cutting him off. "Then I need you in my study right now."
The excitement on his face slowly faded as his eyes moved to Angel as if he was just seeing her for the first time, but he soon recovered and nodded.
"I'll get that sorted... your grace." He bowed to me and then turned to the human girl. "Please, come with me."
Once they left, my thoughts could no longer remain sealed. A sigh escaped my lips as Albert’s report echoed once more.
At least Scarlett was fine, that should keep my wolf calm for now. All I had to do now was find a way to get Axel in my custody while I severed the bond between Scarlett and I through the human girl.
I went straight to my study and poured myself a glass of wine, waiting for Albert's return.
In those moments, my thoughts also went to Luciano. The fool was truly innocent, it was all Willow's plan. But I'll let him spend a few days in the dungeon before releasing him...
"Asher," Albert called as soon as he stepped into the room. "You wanted to see me?"
"Yes, how is the plan with Axel going?"
