Chapter 42 Distracted

Chapter 42 Distracted
Chapter 42: Asher

Albert stood before me moving his eyes like the language I spoke to him was suddenly foreign to his ears.

"Do I need to repeat myself?" I growled, glaring at him.

"No— not exactly," He mumbled, snapping out whatever was blocking his brain.

"So?" I snapped. "How is the plan fucking going?"

"Asher, the thing is, there hasn't been a plan yet... You know the last time you talked about waiting— you know?"

"I remember what we talked about Albert and what you just spat out were words from your mouth. Not mine." I countered, still glaring at him.

His eyes blinked and I could see how he was starting to struggle with words. "True, I suggested it but you had agreed to give it more time... To allow for the princess to get pregnant so we could try the first plan you had."

"The plan is different now. I want you to resume planning Axel's kidnap." I shrugged.

"But Asher, what if—" he tried to say but I instantly cut him off. Not wanting to hear more.

"Place a team of people to track and study his every move. I want a full report on his entire routine until we get an opening to pick him up when he least expects it!"

I expected him to leave or at least bow and start the execution but he remained before me, unmoving.

"Are your ears starting to fail, Albert? Why the fuck are you still here?"

"I am sorry, but Asher, you know it is close to impossible to get that close to—"

"I don't care!" I snapped, hitting my fist on the table. "Pay people. Get into his circle. I don't care if they are as knit tight as a tangled knot of hair. Just get me the information I need!"

With a sigh, he finally bowed. "Very well then. I will do as you have said."

He turned away almost instantly but I could see the hesitation on his shoulders. It was as if he still had more to say, to counter, to point out... But like I said earlier I didn't care.

Axel wasn't the fucking Goddess. He was the son of a land thief!

A mere Lycan and if Albert was smart enough— which I knew he was— he would get me the information I needed.

I gulped down the rest of my drink and walked out of the room. I had no idea where I was going but I kept moving while my head continued weighing my options. Of how I needed to prove to Willow that I had this under control.

I was going to win this war against Axel and his family. I was going to—

My thoughts suddenly stopped as my eyes caught sight of Scarlett. Somehow, I had found myself at the cracked door of —my room.

"Do you know where Asher went?" Her smooth voice echoed through the opened door, creating a crack in my heart.

Every thought I had vanished and my wolf purred with desire. My heart swelled with warmth as I watched her standing... So healthy. So beautiful...

My heart was thumping with intoxicating hormones that flowed through every part of me, pushing my wolf to want her even more as a sense of peace settled within me.

She was safe. The poison didn't hurt her. Willow failed—

"My king," Fiona, the strange pompous healer suddenly called, snapping me out of my thoughts and making my presence known. "Why are you standing by the door when you could be here with your mate?"

My eyes instantly narrowed at her silly comment. But more than that, the more rational part of my head snapped back into reality. What the hell was I even doing here?

Rage bubbled through me and I stepped in, pushing Fiona to the side as I made my way to the wardrobe.

I started pulling out clothes from the wardrobe, at the same time, my body became painfully aware of the silence and stares I was getting.

Even my wolf became irritated at the fact that I was turning my back to the one person it wanted to stare at— the one person who had bewitched us!

But I was stronger than my wolf. I grabbed as much clothes that I could need and shoved them roughly into a bag, before walking out of the room. Not saying one word.

The moment I got away from there, I knew I had to give in to Willow's plans. I had to find a way to wipe out the connection I had with Scarlett because how could I explain going to her when my mind was troubled?

Why did I suddenly start feeling desires and emotions when she was the very source of my problems?

But all of that was going to end. I fisted my hands and marched on till I got to the guest room where I had instructed Albert to take the human girl, Angel.

"My king!" She jumped the moment I barged into the room.

She was sitting on the edge of the bed still clothed in the small dress she had on earlier— the same one that flashed her large breasts into my face.

"Get changed. I need you to accompany me somewhere." I hissed and dropped my bag at the foot of the wardrobe.

"Y—yes." She stuttered, quickly hurrying to where I stood.

As she got before me, she awkwardly squeezed her way to the side to get her things— which the maids must have provided her with.

She pulled out a black piece and as my eyes caught the thin straps, I stopped her hand. "Get something more covered."

"Oh... Yes— my king." She returned that and picked a lilac dress with long sleeves. Then disappeared into the bathroom.

I remained there pacing with irritation and this time, it wasn't even for Scarlett. The anger was towards myself. Why couldn't I forget Scarlett? Why couldn't I break this connection myself?

I made a mental note to focus on Angel. She was beautiful and all I had to do was ignore her large breasts and focus on other parts of her.

As if on cue, the door to the bathroom opened and Angel stepped out.

"I am ready, my king..." She whispered, and my eyes swept over her.

The lilac dress had a snug fit around her curves, giving her a beautiful appearance as the dress flowed down to her thighs but most importantly, I didn't have to deal with her breasts as they were properly covered.

A tight lipped smile came to my face and I offered her my hand. "Good, let's go..."

Her eyes squinted with an air of confusion but she took my hand, letting me lead her outside.

I already had a location in mine. A setting in one of the city's restaurants and being the king I didn't even need to make a reservation. A table was always available for me.

As soon as my car parked in front of the silver building, I could already see the commotion inside.

The moment we stepped down from the car, the manager was already waiting with a bow that almost touched his knees.

"Your grace. Please let me show you your table." He led us inside and made sure to pull the chairs for us to settle in.

He handed us the menus and waited, "What would you like to have tonight?"

My eyes swept over the list of meals and I flipped it close. "Give us your special dish tonight."

The man quickly bowed and hurried away to get the order, giving me the space I needed to watch Angel.

Her eyes were moving around the restaurant, taking in the decoration with awe as her nails clutched the table, like she feared it would all vanish.

"Do you like it here?" I forced myself to ask, just to get the small talk going.

"Huh?" Her eyes dropped to mine and she quickly forced a smile. "Yes. I do."

"If you can help break off my connection with my mate, bringing you to places like this will be nothing..."

"Oh... Yes... Thank you, my king," She muttered, her eyes shifting to something behind me.

I was almost turning to see what it was, but the manager soon appeared with a line of waiters, all carrying different trays of food.

The air was instantly engulfed into a delicious scent. The sweet smell of roasted chicken, down to the warmth that escaped the baked potatoes, everything smelled heavenly. But my eyes were on Angel.

She was beaming with excitement as the food was placed before us. Not even waiting for the waiters to leave, she started serving herself. She picked large portions of everything and looked into my face.

It took a minute but I realized that she was waiting for my permission.

"Please, dig in. Enjoy your meal and just be yourself... Go on." I urged and this time the smile that covered her face was eternal.

It was almost like she hadn't seen this much food or been allowed to eat in a long time. Her appetite was large but above all, it was enjoyable to just sit there and watch.

Maybe her body didn't entice me but her appetite was a very good means of distraction...
