Chapter 87 87
Chapter 87 87
When I woke up, I was lying on the Sovereign's bed, but there was something so unusual about my system. I hadn't ever felt empty like now, as though I had no soul in me and was just an empty body.
I placed my palm on my chest, and my heart was throbbing. My skin also looked pale, like I was so sick.
“Since you're awake, get down and eat something.” I heard Sovereign’s voice; his voice echoed in my hearing as I searched for him. He was seated and busy with the scrolls scattered before him. Some feet away was a tray of food served on the table.
But wasn't he mad at me for trying to escape? I even killed one of his men, so he should be enraged and not want me to eat.
I took a look at my body, and I was wearing his robe, causing me to squint. “What is going on?” I muttered, unsure if he heard me, while I gently got down from the bed. “Why are you treating me right?”
He raised his face, “You lost your fae soul!”
Just like a gong, the statement sounded in my ear.
I lost my what? Fae soul?
That couldn't be possible!
I took slow steps towards him, my body more like it would be carried away by the wind. “That's a joke, right? I can't lose my fae soul.”
He chuckled and dropped the scroll he was holding, “Do I look like I have time to play tricks with you? Don't you notice anything weird about your inner self?”
I scoffed and sat on the floor. It couldn't be true. I truly noticed something unusual about myself, but I didn't think of such a thing.
“Now that you lost your fae soul, you have no power with you and are just like a human. Unless you recover your fae soul, you would be useless to yourself,” he explained further, and I glared at him with my heart racing in fear. “So, I don't think it's of use being cruel towards you or even killing you. Let's just get married if you want to be protected by me.”
A liquid dropped on my cheek, and I instantly wiped it off. Everything was sounding like an echo, like it wasn't real…and I just wished it truly wasn't real.
How would I survive if I lost my fae soul? If I told my brother this, he would even try committing suicide, because without my fae soul, there's no way to know my species, and I could be mistaken for a human.
“And I think you caused it yourself, by breaking through the chain used to hurl you. There are some things you don't do, no matter how strong you are,” he added, his gaze fixated on the scroll he was holding. “But regardless, you still have to eat and regain some energy. It's good that you are a foodie, because food is the only source of energy you have at this point, just like humans.”
I wanted to break into sobs, to cry my eyes out, but I couldn't any longer. I was so weak, and I could already see that my world had finally crumbled before me without a way to restore it.
I dragged my body to where the meal was and gobbled on them without even fighting him like in the past, and once I felt energised, I decided to ask him, "Don't you think there's a way for me to recover my fae soul?”
He shrugged, “Even if there is, I won't let you recover it. We are getting married, and that's the most important thing right now.”
How devilish of him…
He loved that I lost my fae soul, and I even thought he was behind it. He knew that if I broke through the chain, I would lose my fae soul, yet he used it on me because he was certain I would try to set myself free.
I was short of words, just useless, as he already mentioned.
But one thing was that, even with my current situation, I wouldn't accept getting married to him.
I was all alone, scared of leaving his chamber because I knew the dragons out there would want to devour me since I was weak. But after three days, I gave up. I needed to help myself get out of this mess before he took advantage of my situation…and with that, I set out to go meet Perrin.
She happened to be my only hope, and I prayed she would agree to help me.
“You want me to do that when I could be killed by your master if he finds out?” She shook her head, about to step away, when I got to my knees, holding her leg. “Fae female, I understand your situation. But you're his soulmate, and you two are bound to marry. Shouldn't you accept it willingly? Now that you're powerless, you won't trigger his anger, and he won't hurt you.”
I refused to believe that.
“He could deal with me because he knows I can't retaliate, and you know what would happen when the realm knows of us getting married. So please help me out, and I will return once I recover my fae soul.” I pleaded consistently, hoping that she would change her mind, and hurry to my aid.
What the dragon Sovereign wanted was for me to be a weakling before him. And by his statement of not killing me since I lost my fae soul and powers, I could tell he was triggered by my powers, even when they were hidden, and wanted to get rid of me. I wondered the kind of soulmate he wanted that he wanted me eliminated.
After a long time, Perrin accepted it…but with a condition.
“You’re not going to mention that I helped you in the future. Agreed?” she asked, and I nodded, raising my upper body. “Then let's see how it would happen.”
___
Four days later…
I was already out of the dragon realm with the help of Perrin. I knew she was powerful enough to help me out.
After she left, I walked for a whole day without a stop and was finally tired. She had given me some money which could settle me, and she promised to come for me again and get me more money too.
I found an inn, and although I didn't know which realm I was in, I just wanted to get a rest and eat a good meal. I reached out to the owner, sweating profusely as I paid for a room and for a night only.
“What do you want as a meal? Will you eat out here before getting into the room?” she asked, and I nodded.
“I should eat in the corridor before getting in. And by then, the person in there would leave, right?” I asked because she mentioned something like that, as there was no completely vacant one, and I was so tired of searching for another inn.
She promised to get my meal, and that the person would leave soon, so I went and grabbed a seat at the veranda.
As she served it, I tried my best to eat gently so as not to attract the stares of people. I was so full as I finished the bowl of porridge rice with meat sauce.
‘I wonder if this is human land. The meal tastes like theirs.’ I thought, looking around. ‘Ofelia will search for me. I didn't even tell River, but they should just wait, and I would be back.’
Soon, the woman cleared the plate and directed me to the room I had paid for. I sat there for some time to regain myself, then later stood and reached out to the room.
While I was getting in, a woman was coming out, so I sensed she had been occupying the room.
I entered and was about to shut the door since she had left, but I felt someone holding the door firmly.
My forehead wrinkled. I hadn't even thought of Dragon Sovereign coming for me until now. But the thought of him flew off my mind as the woman who had just left peeked into the room, and our eyes locked.
I snorted, “Did you forget anything?”
She shook her head, “I need to speak to you before I leave.”
I was curious, and gently let go of the door.
She walked in, wearing a bright smile. “Young lady, did you know you were pregnant?”
I looked at her from her head to her toes and hissed out loud. “You can start leaving so I can take a rest.”
“This isn't a joke. I'm a herbal physician, focused on women. You're about eleven weeks pregnant…
“What?” I screamed, my heart leaped to my throat. “Eleven what? I am not pregnant.”
She gazed at me and chuckled, “You don't seem to want a child now. So, in case you want it out, you can find me in the eastern part of the woods. I stay there and will help you get rid of the child carefully so it doesn't affect you.” She bowed slightly and walked out, shutting the door behind herself.
My lips just hung open, staring into the blank space.
Pregnant?
I touched my belly, and it was so flat.
“Not true! She's fake!” I told myself and lay down. “I can't be pregnant by that evil dragon.”
