Chapter 85 - My Secret

“How are you feeling?” Dan narrowed her eyes on Mary.

They were both still lying flat on the bed and resting from the smooth ride they got themselves into.

“A bit pain,” she admitted.

“I am sorry about that. I didn’t know it was your first time.” There was a trace of remorse on Dan’s face. He never wanted this, not this time. He just gave in to the temptation.

“I will be fine.” Her face lit with warmth. “It’s not all that bad you know.” She admitted indirectly she enjoyed it. One didn’t get deflowered twice. It was her first best sex with the man she had suddenly fallen in love with.

“Your dad will kill me if he finds out,” he said jokingly.

“I thought hybrids are stronger,” she smirked slyly, teasing his joke.

“We are but I can’t wage war with your father. Things have changed,” he said, leaning on his elbow. “I did in the past but failed. That’s my secret and I feel ashamed right now.”

“Shush…” Mary placed her index finger on his lips to silence him. “I forgive you.”

“I still have to tell you because I don’t want you to hear it elsewhere.”

He tried opening his mouth further to speak but Mary pushed back his words to his throat. “No need for that,” she said. She has seen all she needed to see from Dan’s past and all that she needed to know. “I know what you did and I forgive you.”

“How did you know?” He stared with a wide-eyed gaze. He’s lost and confused.

“I see my powers enhancing each moment.” She smiled softly, fixing her eyes on him, She continued. “When you drove into me with all your might, I got a premonition of all you did. How you captured and tortured my dad and sought to kill him for not telling you how he was able to get my mother pregnant as a vampire.”

“I am so ashamed of my past actions,” he said, lowering his head, and expressing guilt. “I just hope you…”

“No need to ask for my forgiveness,” she said, interrupting him once more. “I have forgiven you already.”

A disbelief look crossed Dan’s face. “You are not going to try to kill me?” His eyes widened the more.

“And why will I do that?” she giggled. “I also saw you seek revenge for what your siblings did.”

“And you will help me, right?”

This has been the moment he has been waiting for. To seek revenge on his siblings for what they did to him. He’s gathering all the help he could get. In his quest to alter the curse of the moon, he has not given up.

“Er… Uh…” she lowered her head, feeling lost with no words. She thought for a moment and lifted her face toward Dan. “Well, my grams warned me about the war coming and I don’t want to pick sides. Perhaps, that’s why my parents kept me in the dark all these years.”

“I understand, but you are not going to stop me, are you?”

His vengeful nature had not changed. He breathes rage and takes in rage like oxygen. Escaping the daemon dagger buried in his chest, his ire against his siblings just heightened.

“Look, am happy I found love in you and I don’t want to give you reasons to hate me. So I won’t get in your way, fighting your siblings.”

She still has her college to finish and a life to live up to. She didn’t want to abandon her dreams. With the premonition she got, she’s scared of diverting from her dreams because of the supernatural war her grams has been talking about.

“Then help me break the curse of the moon,” he lets out a desperate plea. “You have all it could take to do that.”

“Doing that will put my father at risk,” she protested. “He’s a vampire, Dan. I can’t just hand the werewolf what they want.”

“I am a vampire too,” he disputed.

“Yes, you are but you hate the vampire. And besides, you are a hybrid who will stop at nothing until he gets what he wants.” She turned away from him and slid down the bed. “If the reason why you claim to love me is to use me, I am leaving.”

She picked up her jeans and began to put them on while Dan watched silently. When she was about to wear her top, Dan slid down the bed threw his arms around her waist, and whispered into her, “That’s not the reason I love you. You know that.”

“Then don’t make me do what I will regret.” Her voice sounded mean and harsh. “I can’t put my father at risk because I love you.”

“I am sorry, pushing too far,” he apologized. “How will I make it up to you?”

She sighed and thought for a moment. “There’s one thing I tried getting from your past but couldn’t. Do you mind telling me how you and your siblings became vampires?”

Her desperation can’t be ignored any longer. She knew little about these creatures that lurk and prey on their victims. If she must help stop this war coming, she needs to know the history of vampirism. She feared losing her father and the best way her instinct is telling her to help is to protect the vampires and keep the werewolves from attacking the vampires on a full moon.
