The escape

The sound of the car at midnight, sound heavily on Rhoda's room window. She managed to slip away from the room, down to the stairs where she locked herself since afternoon. Sonita had left her with an empty stomach, with threats that followed within.

Bruce and Sonita stood behind the door way, their voice were so low as the tension between them was impeccable, Rhoda peeped through the small door, she could hear their lips moving into something that deafening, drew closer to hear them well.

“Sonita,”Bruce said softly, his voice low, but commanding. “I just need an answer.”

“Answer?” She snarled, her voice sharper than before. “How am I supposed to know answer to something I'm not sure of?”

Bruce took a deep breath, crossing his arm over his chest. “Don't act innocent, you know every details that's going on. Yeah I know so don't act smart.”

Sonita's eye flashed at him with anger. “Manipulations, deceit Bruce? Please spare me thar. I'm not your tool.”

“I'm still waiting!” His voice cut in sharply, “I don't care about your plans, all I need is answer. You can't side with my enemies, join forces of align with them to blackmail me.”

Sonita began to laugh in the empty room, it was more deafening that Rhoda stepped back a little to close her ears.

“You know what I mean, Sonita,” he said, his eyes gazing at her.

“If you want my help Bruce, if you want me to even consider going to your side… then you need to sign the last contract. The marriage now!!.”

Bruce sighed, his jaw clenched. “This is more than a marriage, you are trying to be in control of everything. Making it a loose battle for me.”

“I need it,” she cut in, her word bitter as cola. “Every day, time i want to, do you think I feel happy being a slave to someone's child. I want mine, Bruce. I want to hold you every night down to your shaft,”

Bruce narrowed his brow. “What do you mean?” He squeezed his face. “Slave to who”

“Yes, slave to her, I want mine.” She interrupted. “A baby to hold unto. What else are you holding back?

"It's not about marriage,” he said, his voice low.

“The unknown organizations is coming ahead of us, you are the middle man and know who's behind this. And you are here talking about babies and marriage,?”

She took a step back, leaning against the doorframe. Rhoda hid a bit so her shadow won't be seen or notice that she's eavesdropping.

“This is the price you have to pay.” She replied finally.

Rhoda's stomach twist as she felt a chill run across her skin about the unknown.

Bruce stretched his hand through his hair, his brown eye going soft on her. “This is not the right time to play this, Sonita. It's about blood and my inherent.”

She stared at him, growling inside. “Selfishness… this is what you are. I know there's a little feeling for Alexia and her disgusting children.”

“Mind you, I have every detail of your involvement about the kidnap. You can't keep hiding for long.”

Those words hit Rhods as it weugh on her shoulder Luke a stone.

“Don't forget that I'm the only way to stop this choas that's about to happen.”

“Did you think you can?,” his voice broke, with a mixture of fear, anger and frustration spilling out.

“Stop making it difficult. I only planned it for Alexia to be scared, not the other way.” his face looked guilty as he looked away to the window.

She stepped forward, her hands brushing against his.

“You just need help, Bruce. Imagine bring handcuffs for everything, all these would be over. Say yes to me offer then together we can protect each other.”

"Stop!" He screamed, his voice breaking. "Just stop!"

He moved away from her, his fist clenched tightly at her, Rhoda stirred at them, fear gripped her spine. All she wanted was to run away, but she would be caught.

“Then fine. Deal with yourself,” she shot back, Venkman filled her voice.

“Bruce, think about about it. It's for your best. Trust my words.”

“Rhoda can be our pawn to this game.”

Rhoda closed her mouth when she heard those words. She moved backwards to head back to her room, tears filled her eyes. Still moving back, she fell the mental portrait on the floor, causing sounds in the darkness.

Bruce turned around, their eyes darted at each other “Sonita,”

“Be still,” she said, moving closer to the door. “Someone's here”

Rhoda heard the footsteps echoing closer to her. She wanted to escape, began to tiptoe to the stairs, not wanting her footsteps to be heard.

The corridor was dark, looming with little shadows as Sonita shun light across the stairs, trying to get hold of the intruder in their midst.

Bruce followed behind, as Rhoda found her way to her, then someone halt a dead stop. A figure, shrouded in darkness.

"Who's there?" Sonita called out. Her voice was commanding despite the fact that it curled fear had formed within.

The figure took another step closer to her, lighting up the light in the house. It was her personal maidservant.

Her eyes flashed to her, as it read dangerous, her lips were too heavy to speak. “While are you here… do you lost your way to your room..?”

The maidservant narrowed, not saying anything father. “I was moving around the house to see if everything is in order, before I go to bed.”

Sonita chuckled her head to the back, her face unreadable. "And you went ahead to listen to our conversation, where are your manner?”

She snorted. "Listen to conversations? Since when?"

“Don't play dumb, what do you hear?” She tool a step closer, lowering her voice this time

“You don't need to lie to me, you heard something,” she drew her face closer to hers..” still searching for answer but found none.

“Enough!” Bruce said, walked out from her back, pulling her close not to force words on her.

"Ma'am, I did not hear anything. I just stepped out for a walk to know if the house is in order.”

Sonita crossed her arm over her chest, trying so hard to hide her anger. “where's the child?, still inside the room since then,”

“Yeah, just checked in.” She said softly, bending her head over down. “I don't mean to curse any harm. I was trying to check the house.”

Sonita stared at her, having heavy doubts about her words. Trying to let it slide. “You can go. I will check the house to see if everything is in shape.”

She nodded slowly, fastening her steps to her room. Though her heart skipped to what the conversation was all about. She realized the fact she was brought to the house. To protect Rhoda at her side from the evil deeds Sonita had been plotting out.

"I will try my best to protect this child,” her voice hardening as she forces herself to sleep.

Rhoda on the other side, couldn't sleep back, those words frightens her. The trauma of the kidnap incident keep playing on her head, she held the pillow tightly, trying to let go of her anxiety to the darkness of the night.
