Chapter 90 Going Out to Have Fun
Vanessa finished speaking in one breath, panting slightly, her body trembling non-stop.
Vincent watched her cry, feeling something tugging at his heart.
He remembered the day she took the knife for him, blood gushing from her chest, staining his hands red.
He thought then that he could never let her down in this lifetime. So he divorced Daisy, brought her home, and gave her the best of everything.
He had thought that would be enough.
He thought as long as he gave her a house, money, and status, everything would develop in the direction he hoped for.
But he never expected it would turn out like this.
"Nessa, you weren't like this before." Vincent's voice was heavy. "You used to be so kind and honest. How did you become like this?"
Vanessa didn't speak. Vincent was silent for a moment, then continued, "I know this is all because of me. I'm the one who turned you into this."
"I've failed to meet your expectations, but please believe me, my heart has never changed."
He gently patted her shoulder. "So, let's end this here. Don't do this again, okay?"
Vanessa bit her lip and nodded.
Vincent held her in his arms, feeling her slightly warm tears soaking through his chest.
Of course he didn't know that as Vanessa's tears poured out, a cold smile slowly crept across her lips.
......
Ethan looked at the shiny trophy in Daisy's hands, unable to hide the smile on his face.
He circled around the trophy twice, then twice more, clicking his tongue. "If we put this trophy in the company lobby, Noah would see it first thing every morning when he walks in. His expression would be priceless."
Daisy laughed at his antics. "Are you being childish? Always competing with him."
"I'm just happy for you." Ethan patted her shoulder. "Alright, you've been working hard lately. You've been here so long and I haven't given you any benefits yet. Might as well give you some time off."
"Time off?" Daisy smiled. "That counts as a benefit? I thought you were going to give me a raise."
"Of course you'll get a raise, but I think you might prefer time off to relax a bit." Ethan put his hands in his pockets, leaning against the wall, looking at her with a smile.
"I'm thinking of organizing a team building trip - mountain climbing, camping, diving, that sort of thing. Everyone from your lab is going. You can't refuse."
If the Bennetts weren't secretly watching her, she would have agreed right away.
But...
Whatever, the Bennetts probably had their own problems to deal with. How would they have time to bother with her? Besides, there would be so many people on the team building trip. As long as she didn't leave the group, what could they do to her? Shoot her in front of everyone?
"Okay." She smiled. "I'll go."
When the news spread, the lab erupted.
Amy was the first to jump up. "Mountain adventure and diving? Yay, yay!"
Several young researchers joined in the excitement, chattering about what clothes to bring and what hairstyles to do.
Noah sat in the corner, rolling his eyes. "Childish." But he didn't say he wasn't going either.
On departure day, the weather was beautiful.
The warm sunshine made people feel like their bones were melting.
Daisy wore a dress with her curly hair loose. Though she wore no makeup, her bare face looked more relaxed than usual. She stood at the company entrance waiting for the bus, the wind blowing her skirt gently.
Ethan walked up from behind and glanced at her. "Wow, looking pretty today."
"It's a vacation." Daisy smiled.
The tour bus arrived and everyone got on cheerfully.
Her phone buzzed. It was a message from Luna.
[Mom, are you busy? Can you come home tonight? I learned to play piano and I want to play for you.]
Daisy thought for a moment and replied: [Sorry Luna, Mom's on a business trip. I'll be back in a couple days.]
After sending it, she felt a bit guilty. Lying to Luna like this wasn't great, but if she said she was going out to have fun, Luna would definitely insist on coming along.
While she was thinking, Luna sent another message: [Then remember to bring me a present.]
Daisy replied with "okay" and turned off her phone.
The first stop was mountain climbing, located in the mountains on the city outskirts, a three-hour drive away.
When the bus arrived, it was already getting dark. The hotel they booked was built halfway up the mountain. They'd sleep tonight and head into the mountains tomorrow.
Daisy got off the bus and took a deep breath, feeling much more relaxed.
Ethan distributed room keys to everyone while reminding them, "Meet in the restaurant at 8 PM, don't be late. It's pretty remote here, phones might not have signal. Don't go to isolated places alone."
Daisy took her room key and dragged her suitcase to her room.
She put away her suitcase, changed into comfortable shoes, and headed out to the restaurant.
The restaurant was in the hotel's main building, elegantly decorated with natural wood tables and chairs, warm yellow lighting, and a few potted plants in the corners - very relaxing.
When Daisy arrived, Amy and the others were already seated, studying the menu.
"Ms. Hart! Over here!" Amy waved at her.
Daisy smiled and walked over, sitting down next to her.
Amy pushed the menu in front of her. "See what you want to eat? Mr. Reed said order whatever, he's paying."
"Then I won't hold back." Daisy flipped through the menu and ordered a few dishes she liked.
Before the food arrived, Noah asked in the group chat for the restaurant's location. He'd been helping everyone move their luggage, so he was running late.
Daisy glanced at it and stood up. "I'll go meet him. I have his room key anyway."
She stood at the restaurant entrance. Noah hadn't arrived yet. She held Noah's room key in her hand, idly looking at the lights in the courtyard.
"Daisy?"
A voice came from behind, tinged with surprise.
Daisy instinctively turned her head.
"It really is you. Why are you here alone? Where are Vince and Luna?"
Daisy frowned. "Oh, it's you."
It was Sienna, Vincent's cousin.
Daisy hadn't expected to run into her here. She disliked this cousin just as much as Vanessa.
Just as she was about to make an excuse to leave, Sienna had already walked over with a child.
"Perfect timing, you're here too. Watch my kid for me, I have something to do."
She pushed the child toward Daisy and turned to leave.
Daisy quickly pushed the child back. She was here to relax, not to babysit out of nowhere.
"I have something to do..."
"What could you possibly have to do?" Sienna interrupted her, her tone matter-of-fact. "You're free, aren't you? Just one hour. Just watch him and don't let him run around."
