Chapter 143 Vincent's Accusation
"There's a temporary project abroad that I need to handle. Luna will stay at your place for a few days."
Daisy froze when she saw this message. Well, that saved her from having to ask Vincent about it.
But if he was going abroad, what about Vanessa?
As if reading her mind, another message came through: "Vanessa is coming with me, so there's no one at home to look after her."
Those two simple sentences from Vincent served as his explanation.
Daisy couldn't quite describe how she felt. She sighed softly and replied, "Okay."
She didn't ask anything more—it wasn't her business to care about that.
"I'll have the driver send Luna's clothes and schoolbag to your apartment in a bit."
"Okay."
Daisy didn't explain where she actually was. Having things sent to her apartment was fine, though she had no intention of having Luna stay there.
For one thing, her place was really small, and she had to work—it wouldn't be convenient for the child. For another, there was no one to look after her. So Daisy planned to have Luna stay at Brenda's.
After putting away her phone, Daisy told Luna her plan.
"Luna, you'll stay at Brenda's for the next few days, okay? Just let me know when you want to go back."
Luna didn't think much of it and agreed right away, "Okay."
Daisy didn't mention Vincent's business trip to Luna. Little did she know, this omission would lead to a misunderstanding a few days later.
After leaving Luna with Brenda, Daisy went back to her apartment to pick up Luna's things that the Blacks' driver had delivered.
Since Simon was free these couple of days, picking up and dropping off the kids fell to him.
Daisy only stayed there for two nights. After that, she was so busy with work that she couldn't come over every day.
At first, Luna didn't make a fuss, but after Daisy didn't show up for two days in a row, Luna couldn't take it anymore.
She kept asking Brenda when Daisy would come back.
After calling Daisy twice and being told both times that she was busy with work and had to work overtime, Luna's temper flared up.
That day, when she got back to Brenda's house and still didn't see Daisy, Luna felt so wronged that she called Vincent directly.
It took a while for the call to connect.
"Luna? What's wrong?"
As soon as Vincent's voice came through, Luna burst into tears as if she'd suffered the greatest injustice.
"Daddy, I want to go home! When are you and Aunt Vanessa coming to get me!"
Vincent hadn't expected Luna to call him crying. He was completely stunned and quickly tried to comfort her. "What's wrong, Luna? Isn't Mommy there?"
"No... she's not... wahhh..."
Luna was so full of grievance at that moment that she couldn't think about anything else.
Vincent's heart sank at her words. Thinking Luna had been wronged somehow, his expression darkened.
Vanessa, who was beside him, naturally heard Luna crying too. She frowned, her words carrying some concern, "What happened? Did Luna get upset about something?"
"Mommy's busy with work and doesn't have time for me."
Luna felt terribly wronged.
Vincent's expression grew even darker at Luna's words, and he felt somewhat displeased. Was this how Daisy took care of the child?
Vincent steadied himself and patiently tried to console Luna. "I understand. Luna, I'm on a business trip abroad and can't get back right away. I'll have someone pick you up later, okay?"
"Okay. When did you go on your business trip, Daddy? How come I didn't know?"
Luna's innocent question made Vincent's eyes darken. Daisy hadn't even told Luna about his business trip? What kind of mother was she!
Vincent suppressed his displeasure and said gently, "It's been a few days. Daddy will be back in a couple of days, be good."
"Okay. What about Auntie Vanessa?"
"She came with me."
"Oh, okay then. I'll wait for Daddy at Brenda's house."
Luna sounded unenthusiastic.
Vincent raised an eyebrow slightly. "Luna's been staying at Brenda's house these past few days?"
"Yes."
Luna didn't think much of it and answered directly.
A dark gleam flashed in Vincent's eyes. In his mind now, Daisy had become someone who had no time for the child and just dumped her at Brenda's house.
Vincent didn't say much more after hearing Luna's answer, only saying he'd have someone pick her up before ending the call.
After hanging up, Vincent's expression was as dark as ice, his fingers gripping his phone tightly.
Vanessa was beside him and had heard every word of their conversation. She took Vincent's arm and complained in a low voice, "Vince, don't you think Daisy is being too much? Luna is her own daughter, and she just dumps the child with an elderly person and doesn't care at all. She didn't even tell the child about something as important as you going abroad on business. I'm an outsider and I care more than she does."
Vincent was already angry, and her words made all his pent-up displeasure surge up. He immediately called Daisy.
Before Daisy could speak, Vincent's cold accusation hit her first: "Daisy, is this how you're a mother? I left Luna with you, and you just threw her at Brenda's house without a care. You didn't even tell her I was on a business trip, and she had to cry and call me to pick her up. Do you even have this daughter in your heart?"
Vanessa leaned in beside him, adding fuel to the fire: "Exactly, Daisy. When the child needs you most, you're not there. You only care about your work and can't even provide basic care. You're such an unqualified mother."
There was a moment of silence on the other end, then Daisy's sarcastic voice came through: "Vincent, when you were preparing to go abroad and just dumped the child on me, did you think about whether it was convenient for me? I have to work too. I don't have time to be with the child. You just left without a word and abandoned the child. I could only leave her at Brenda's where someone could look after her. And you say I'm an unqualified mother—what about you? Are you a qualified father?"
She paused, her tone growing colder: "If you really cared about your daughter, you wouldn't have dumped her on me. Now you're turning around and blaming me—don't you think that's ridiculous?"
Daisy had no reason to be nice to Vincent. Given their current relationship, there was no need to save face for him.
And he dared to accuse her together with Vanessa! Why didn't he think about whether he himself was a qualified father?
Vincent hadn't expected Daisy to argue back so reasonably. For a moment, his blood boiled with anger. He said through gritted teeth, "Daisy, you're really something. If you didn't have time to take care of her, why did you agree in the first place? If you hadn't agreed, I could have sent the child to my cousin's place."
"When you had someone deliver her things, did you ask if I agreed? Did you ask if I was busy?"
