Chapter 99 A Fake is a Fake
Vivian noticed Janet had drifted off, so she started talking again.
"It's all because of that shameless woman Cordelia. If she hadn't shamelessly insisted on marrying Mr. Hughes back then, you and Mr. Hughes wouldn't have broken up."
When Janet heard Vivian mention Cordelia, she snapped back to attention and suddenly gripped the blanket tightly.
Ruth heard Vivian's words as she approached Janet's hospital room.
She walked into the room with a stern face.
Janet's face immediately turned pale when she saw Ruth.
Vivian had seen Ruth a few times before when she went to the cemetery to pay respects to Aurora.
Now seeing Ruth walk in with such an imposing presence, her heart jumped to her throat.
"Who are you calling a shameless woman?"
Ruth had seen Vivian a few times before, and now stared at her with displeasure.
Vivian immediately stood up awkwardly from Janet's bedside, looking somewhat panicked, keeping her head down and not daring to speak.
Seeing this, Janet moved her lips but couldn't figure out how to explain.
Ruth looked at Vivian with a cold face.
"I heard you're working as a senior preschool teacher now?"
Vivian nodded reluctantly, "Yes, Mrs. Hughes."
Ruth snorted coldly, "I wonder which institution hired you as a preschool teacher. With your character, I'm afraid you'll be a bad influence on the children."
Vivian suddenly looked up at Ruth, her expression panicked.
"Mrs. Hughes, I'm just telling the truth."
"If Cordelia hadn't shamelessly wanted to marry Mr. Hughes back then, Janet wouldn't have broken up with Mr. Hughes."
Vivian gathered her courage and stiffened her neck.
Ruth found her statement laughable.
"Is that so?"
"But when Ms. Martin and Alaric broke up, Alaric didn't even know Cordelia yet. He's a successful man with independent thinking - if he didn't want to marry, could I have forced him?"
Vivian paused and fell silent.
Clifford, who was beside Ruth, glanced at Janet, then turned his gaze to Vivian.
"Where did you get this information? Don't tell me you heard it from Ms. Martin herself?"
Vivian bit her lip silently.
Clifford smiled and continued, "The reason Amy got into conflict with Ms. Martin was because Ms. Martin fed Amy some false information."
"Which led to today's drama."
"Vivian, do you want to end up like Amy?"
Vivian wasn't clear about the conflict between Amy and Janet.
But some time ago, Amy had exposed Alaric and Evelyn's "marriage" and made a big fuss about it, causing Evelyn to suffer from online harassment for a long time.
Later, Amy released a video of Alaric forcibly kissing Cordelia, which caused another huge uproar.
Vivian had seen the news online at the time.
Later, when she saw that the Hughes Group had sued Amy, she learned that everything Amy did was based on rumors.
Janet's face stiffened when she heard Clifford say this in front of Vivian.
She took a deep breath and quickly denied it.
"Everything Amy did has nothing to do with me. I had no idea she would release that false information. "
Clifford looked at Janet calmly and said.
"We just asked Amy, and she said you were the one who told her about Mr. Hughes and Evelyn's secret marriage. You can't deny that, can you, Ms. Martin?"
Janet bit her lip tightly and remained silent.
Vivian frowned slightly at Janet's silent, head-down appearance.
"Janet."
Janet took a deep breath and looked at Vivian.
Vivian had been her friend for many years and was the only one who stood up for her when she had problems.
So she didn't want to lose this friendship just yet.
"Vivian, you should go back first. I'll explain to you later."
Vivian saw Janet's pale face and Ruth's displeasure, and shook her head.
"It's okay, I believe you. I'll stay here with you."
Janet had never done anything to harm Vivian.
And in Vivian's eyes, Janet's character had always been kind and gentle, while Amy was ambitious.
Back in school, she had already shown herself to be aggressive and ambitious.
This time, causing such a problem, Amy must be the one at fault.
Janet was very touched by Vivian's words.
Ruth looked coldly at Vivian and Janet, about to speak, when Robert walked out of the elevator and went straight to Janet's hospital room door.
Seeing that Ruth was also there, he greeted her respectfully and politely.
"Mrs. Hughes."
"Uncle Clifford."
Clifford glanced at Robert, his eyes carrying a warning.
Cordelia had gone to Astoria today, and Ruth was already angry. If Robert came to take care of Janet on Alaric's behalf at this time, Ruth probably wouldn't even give Alaric any respect.
Ruth also thought Robert had come to do Alaric's bidding, and looked at him coldly.
"What are you doing here?"
Robert stood to the side and said in a low voice, "Mr. Hughes knew you would come to see Ms. Martin, so he specifically sent me over."
"He said he promises you that he has no relationship with Ms. Martin now, and won't have any relationship with her in the future."
Hearing this, Ruth glanced at Janet.
When Janet heard Robert's words, her pupils flickered.
She bit her lip tightly and said nothing.
She knew Robert was telling the truth.
Last night when she held onto Alaric's arm tightly, she had clearly seen the disgust and dislike in Alaric's eyes.
But to just give up like this felt somewhat unwilling.
Ruth looked at Janet's expression of wanting to cry but having no tears, and smiled coldly.
All her words together didn't carry half the weight of one line from Alaric.
Robert coming to deliver the message saved her some trouble.
"Did Ms. Martin hear that clearly?"
Janet remained silent.
Ruth snorted coldly, "If you don't answer, I'll take it as you heard clearly."
"A fake is just a fake."
Hearing Ruth's words, Janet's expression suddenly changed.
Her hands hidden under the blanket clenched tightly together.
When she was with Alaric before, she had indeed picked up on some of the traits Alaric liked in women, so she deliberately made changes.
If she hadn't known that Alaric had mistakenly identified her as the person Aurora had mentioned, she and Alaric would never have had any connection at all.
But she had only recently learned about this.
The truth of this matter had dealt Janet a huge blow.
Now hearing Ruth say these words, Janet naturally couldn't stay calm.
She hadn't intentionally imitated Cordelia - she just wanted to become the type Alaric liked.
So Cordelia was worthy of Alaric's affection, and she was not? The injustice of it burned.
