Chapter 59 He Will Definitely Win Her Over
Alaric stepped into the elevator, glanced at his reflection in the mirrored panel, and adjusted his appearance slightly.
The elevator doors opened on the floor where Cordelia's office was located.
As he walked down the hall toward Delphine's room, he had to pass by Cordelia's office.
As he approached her office, a wave of anticipation washed over him.
He glanced inside as he walked by, but Cordelia was nowhere to be seen, causing him to pause momentarily.
Hannah stepped out of the adjacent office and noticed Alaric looking towards Cordelia's office.
"Mr. Hughes, looking for Dr. Stone?"
Alaric didn't respond.
Hannah raised an eyebrow and said, "She's with the interns."
Alaric nodded and replied, "Thanks."
Hannah's expression remained indifferent. "No problem."
With that, she walked away.
Alaric's frequent visits to the hospital were clearly not without ulterior motives.
Janet, unwilling to leave things as they were, returned to the hospital.
As the elevator doors opened, Hannah saw Janet stepping out.
"Ms. Martin, you seem to be recovering well."
Janet, aware of Hannah's close relationship with Cordelia, didn't like her by association.
She lifted her chin slightly and replied softly, "Maybe it's because another doctor's skills are better. I feel much better just after being discharged."
Everyone knew Cordelia was Janet's primary doctor.
Janet's comment was a clear jab at Cordelia's medical skills.
Hannah, being Cordelia's friend, wouldn't let such a slight go unchallenged.
"Really? I thought you were just pretending to be sick to get Mr. Hughes' attention."
"You were too embarrassed to stay in our hospital before and transferred out. I thought you had some shame. Now you're back frequently. Is it because you can't see Mr. Hughes anywhere else?"
Hannah's words struck a nerve, and Janet's face darkened immediately.
"Dr. Lewis, aren't you afraid I'll file a complaint against you?"
Hannah smiled faintly. "Would you like me to show you how? The hospital's owner is Ruth. You can complain directly to her."
Janet's face turned pale, and she bit her lip as she walked past Hannah.
Hannah watched her leave, a flicker of disdain in her eyes.
After guiding the interns, Cordelia returned to her office just in time to see Alaric and Janet walking out of Delphine's room together.
Janet was smiling, looking quite pleased.
Alaric's gaze softened slightly when he saw Cordelia.
"Have you eaten?"
His voice was low and calm.
Janet hesitated for a moment, realizing Alaric was speaking to Cordelia.
She forced a smile and looked at Cordelia. "Dr. Stone, why don't you join us for lunch? I heard there's a good place nearby."
Cordelia's eyes were cold, and she cut her off before she could finish.
"No, thanks."
Janet smiled awkwardly. "Alright then."
She looked up at Alaric.
Alaric's expression was indifferent as he walked towards Cordelia.
He had barely taken a few steps when a male intern in a white coat approached Cordelia.
"Dr. Stone, I have a few questions. Could we discuss them over lunch in the cafeteria?"
Cordelia nodded lightly. "Sure."
"Let me grab something first."
The intern nodded and waited quietly at Cordelia's office door, his eyes filled with admiration and respect for her.
Alaric knew exactly what that look meant. His expression darkened as he walked past Cordelia's office.
Janet followed him into the elevator. "Alaric, what should we eat?"
Alaric's tone was cold. "You go ahead. I need to get back to the office."
Janet froze, her face stiffening. Alaric left the hospital and drove off. Janet stood there, clenching her teeth.
Cordelia grabbed what she needed from her office and saw Hannah passing by. "Hannah, want to join us in the cafeteria?"
Hannah glanced at the intern, Everett, waiting by the door and smiled. "I'll pass."
Cordelia looked at Everett and spoke softly. "Everett has some questions. You should come too. After all, you'll be taking over when I leave."
Hannah understood that Cordelia didn't want to be alone with Everett, especially given the attention she was getting because of Alaric and Ruth. "Alright, I'll join you."
Everett's expression tightened slightly when he heard Hannah would be joining them, but he quickly composed himself and followed Cordelia and Hannah to the cafeteria.
During lunch, Everett didn't bring up his questions. Cordelia, calm and composed, asked, "Everett, didn't you have some questions?"
Everett smiled awkwardly and came up with a simple question. Cordelia and Hannah saw right through it.
After lunch, Cordelia and Hannah returned to their offices. Everett added Cordelia's personal contact to the work group chat. Cordelia saw it was him and accepted the request.
Everett immediately sent a message. [Dr. Stone, are you leaving the hospital soon?]
Cordelia glanced at the message and replied simply: [Yes.]
Everett sent a series of questions about where she was going next. Cordelia read them, put her phone away, and didn't respond.
In the restroom, she overheard a conversation in the empty hallway. "Her connections are strong, but don't worry. I'm confident I can win her over."
"Of course, I'm that confident. I'll definitely get her before she leaves Sunrise Valley Hospital."
The voice belonged to Everett. Cordelia raised an eyebrow, her expression cooling, and walked away.
After work, Cordelia changed and left the locker room, seeing Everett by the elevator. She walked over, and Everett smiled brightly. "Dr. Stone."
Cordelia's expression was calm as she nodded. "Need something?"
Her eyes were distant. Everett seemed oblivious to her coldness. "Did you drive? I can give you a ride."
Cordelia glanced at the luxury car key in Everett's hand and smiled. "Sorry, I'm not used to low-end cars."
Everett's expression faltered. His car cost over a million dollars and was the only one among the interns with a vehicle.
