Chapter 112 She Doesn't Want to Lose Her Image in Front of Alaric
Bruce knew he had already pissed off Alaric, so he didn't dare reply to Alaric's messages anymore.
Meanwhile, Alaric in the hospital room was holding his phone, staring at Bruce's message for a long time.
It wasn't until a nurse came to change his IV drip that he put away his phone, his eyes returning to their cold indifference.
Saskia prepared lunch and brought it over for Alaric, and also made a portion for Cordelia.
After placing the lunch in Alaric's room, she said softly, "I'll go get Ms. Stone to come eat too."
After speaking, she carefully glanced at Alaric's expression.
Alaric, sitting on the hospital bed, showed no change in expression.
Saskia breathed a sigh of relief and went to get Cordelia.
Cordelia had been abroad for three years and hadn't had Saskia's cooking in a long time. After eating it that day at The Hughes Manor, she really missed it. So when Saskia said she had prepared lunch for her, she immediately came to Alaric's room with Saskia.
Alaric's lunch was all liquid food, pretty tasteless.
When Saskia opened the lunch box she brought for Cordelia, a delicious aroma filled the air.
Saskia found a folding table and had Cordelia sit down to eat. Cordelia didn't hold back.
The food in Alaric's bowl was tasteless and bland. He looked up at Cordelia, who was sitting at the folding table, eating with obvious enjoyment.
Saskia stood to the side. This scene was just like when they had first gotten married.
Alaric's heart suddenly ached, and he put down his spoon.
Hearing the sound, Saskia looked at Alaric. "Mr. Hughes, you're not eating anymore?"
Alaric answered expressionlessly, "Not hungry."
After speaking, he lay back down on the bed.
Cordelia also put down her utensils. Seeing Alaric's gloomy face, she pressed her lips together and said to Saskia, "Saskia, next time you bring me food, just deliver it to my office."
Alaric probably didn't want to see her, which was why he was acting this way.
Hearing Cordelia's words, Saskia glanced at Alaric. Seeing that he had already closed his eyes and seemed indifferent, she nodded.
"Okay."
Cordelia smiled slightly, helped Saskia clean up the dishes, and they left Alaric's room together.
Their voices faded as they walked away. Alaric opened his eyes and glanced at the doorway, his deep eyes hiding many complicated emotions.
After seeing Saskia off at the hospital, Cordelia immediately threw herself into work.
When she finished work and was about to visit Alaric's room, she heard cheerful laughter coming from inside.
Janet's laugh was clear and bright. Her personality seemed much more outgoing than three years ago.
A couple days ago when Cordelia was scrolling through short videos, she had come across Janet's videos.
Her follower count was only a few hundred thousand less than Donald's, and her followers were growing fast.
Donald had started his short video account when the Stone Group was just transforming. During his years in Astoria, he often posted photos as an outdoor camping blogger.
At first, he would post photos of Cordelia and Evelyn, but after his followers increased, Donald stopped posting them.
Many people didn't even know Donald's real identity.
He made short videos just to pass time, completely different from Janet.
Janet's ability to monetize in the past two years had been strong. Not only had she paid off all her debts, but her life was getting better and better, so naturally her personality became much more cheerful than before.
"I remember the first time I ate imported cherries was when Alaric bought them for me. I never thought I'd have the chance to work with them."
"When I first went to the orchard..."
Cordelia quietly listened for a few sentences at the door, then walked over and knocked.
"Just checking in before getting off work."
Her voice was calm as she walked into Alaric's room.
Sebastian and Jack both looked at Cordelia's face with somewhat shocked expressions, completely confused about the situation.
Cordelia was Alaric's attending doctor?
When Janet and Julian saw Cordelia, their expressions were quite composed.
Janet even got up from her chair enthusiastically and walked toward Cordelia.
"Dr. Stone, you're Alaric's attending doctor?"
Cordelia's expression was calm. She nodded slightly and walked to Alaric's bedside, asking some questions.
She had a strictly professional attitude, her tone showing no variation.
Seeing this, Janet smiled slightly and said.
"Dr. Stone really loves her career. With your family background, why work so hard like us ordinary people?"
Cordelia didn't answer Janet's question.
Janet wasn't embarrassed and continued asking.
"Dr. Stone, now that you're working, who's helping you take care of your child? Is Mr. Gray at home taking care of the kid?"
"Mr. Gray really is a good father."
Before Janet could finish, Cordelia interrupted her.
Her expression remained unchanged, her tone indifferent. "As Ms. Martin said, with my family background, I definitely hired someone specifically to take care of my child."
Janet laughed awkwardly. "That's true."
Cordelia didn't chat with Janet anymore.
Julian smiled and looked at Cordelia.
"When will Dr. Stone bring your daughter out for us to see?"
"I saw the photos Bruce posted. She's very cute."
Cordelia responded to Julian's words expressionlessly.
"She's quite afraid of strangers."
Julian fell silent.
She hasn't seen Bruce many times either.
After finishing Alaric's examination, Cordelia gave a few instructions and left.
Julian sat in a chair to the side, his eyes on Alaric.
He saw Alaric looking down at his phone, not giving Cordelia any extra attention.
He raised an eyebrow and said with a smile.
"I didn't expect you and Dr. Stone could get along so peacefully."
Alaric continued playing with his phone, not even looking up as he replied to Julian. "Do she and I have some deep hatred?"
Sebastian and Jack immediately changed the subject. "How come Bruce didn't come today?"
"I heard he went to the Stone family to discuss the engagement. Wonder how that went."
Janet also sensed the subtle atmosphere between Julian and Alaric. She bit her lip lightly and carefully glanced at Alaric. Just as she was about to speak, Alaric asked them to leave.
"You should all go. I need to rest."
Hearing this, Julian immediately got up from his chair. "Then we won't disturb you."
Janet was somewhat reluctant, but seeing Alaric's cold expression, she didn't dare stay longer.
She had barely been in contact with Alaric these past three years. She could only come today because Julian brought her along.
If it weren't for Julian, she would have been completely cut off from their circle these past three years.
Sebastian and Jack had never contacted her at all.
Not to mention Bruce. Ever since he got back together with Evelyn, he acted like he had never known her, and even kept his distance from Julian.
Although Janet was unwilling, she could only endure it. She didn't want to completely ruin her image in Alaric's mind.
