Chapter 130 He Can’t Die
Chapter 130 He Can’t Die
“Okay, I will do it, but one of your family members has to sign a consent form on your behalf,” the doctor stated. Roger responded confidently, weakness taking over at the end of his words. “I’m an adult. Bring it and let me sign it myself.”
The doctor nodded, but Roger added, “Don’t tell anyone until it’s done.”
After signing the form, he passed out, and only then did the doctor take the gun from him, gather the team of doctors, and proceed with the surgery, first removing the bullet and dressing the wound before performing the kidney transplant.
Even when Wade was moved from the ICU to the theatre, everything was so discreet that no one suspected what was going on.
In fact, the procedure would have been a wonderful surprise for the Dawsons if Roger had not slipped into a coma.
Facing Giovanni, no one knew what to say, but the middle-aged man was determined to know everything that happened.
“Someone, give me something,” Giovanni yelled. The hospital staff trembled as a group of doctors and nurses came out to carry the collapsed doctor, but Giovanni wouldn’t let them.
“Resuscitate him here. He has to tell me everything.”
“Don, Roger was injured when he instructed us to perform the surgery at gunpoint. He even signed the consent form himself,” the doctor spoke hastily as soon as he was resuscitated. Silence cascaded down the hallways of the hospital.
“Wait, how is he?” Karen asked seriously, her eyes blurred with tears as she could guess that things had not gone as Roger had planned.
“We tried, but he slipped into a coma after the surgery. We don’t know if he would make it out,” the doctor said sincerely. Giovanni went stiff, but Delanie was out of control.
“No, you have to do something. He can’t die. I want to see him.”
Karen was rather calm. “He will make it, right? It’s just a coma,” she said, more to herself than anyone else, but the doctors couldn’t give them any hope.
“We can’t say right now, but we are still monitoring him.”
“My babe,” Molly wailed. “Perhaps I shouldn’t have gone on this vacation. Roger would not have taken on so many responsibilities if we were here.”
“It’s nobody’s fault,” Hank interrupted as Molly and Karen comforted each other. Oriana was comforting Delanie as well, but Hendrix and Hector stayed with their mom.
With Chad feeling helpless, he didn’t know whether to leave or stay.
“Roger is a tough one. Not even us would have stopped him, but he’s stronger than all of us. I know he’ll make it,” Hank concluded, hope returned to the faces of everyone present as Chad suddenly asked,
“So, how is Wade?” His question caught everyone's attention, and they echoed, "Yes, how is Wade? He isn't in a coma too, right?"
The doctor smiled faintly. "Mr. Thomas came through well, but we have to wait for the anesthesia to wear off."
Giovanni's lips pursed, and his expression was dangerously eerie. "Hank, can you find out how everything went, and the last places Roger went?"
Hank nodded and began to make some calls, coming up with news. "He was last at a motel. He took down a gang and came out injured, but there's no one to talk to. The motel staff have all fled. The police are on the case, but all evidence has been wiped by our team."
Still not calm, Giovanni nodded. "I still want to know who sent them."
"Only Roger would have that information. Let's hope he comes out fast," Hank encouraged him, but Giovanni had one thing in mind.
"I want to see Wade and Roger."
The doctors were shaking their heads, but their supervisor gave them a sign, telling them it was okay. "This way, Don."
"Can I come too?" Karen asked. The doctor smiled faintly. "We can only allow one person now, but after some time, you can go in. We can't let in too many people, and you have to dress in one of these," he held out a scrub for her.
Karen took it and forced a smile. "I'll wear it and wait."
Roger's lifeless form was on the bed with tubes connected to his chest, nose, and arms.
Giovanni sobbed at the sight of him. "Roger, I'm so proud of you, but you have to let me handle the rest, okay?"
There was no response, but he saw Roger's face squeeze slightly, and even the doctors were stunned. "Can he hear me?" Giovanni asked. The specialist examined Roger again, asking a few questions without a response.
"I don't think he can but let me take you to Wade's ward now." It was a polite way of telling him to leave.
Arriving at Wade’s ward, Giovanni pulled a chair and sat as he stared at the unconscious man on the bed. Just like Roger, Wade had numerous tubes connected to him, but the sight of him brought back many memories.
“Who would have thought that one day, you would become my son-in-law,” Giovanni uttered with a scoff. “Life is indeed funny.”
His peculiar behavior prompted the doctors to excuse him until the medical devices started beeping. Wade’s eyes slowly opened, and it felt like a dream when he saw Giovanni by his bedside.
Panicked, he tried to move, but Giovanni gently pressed his hand against Wade’s chest. “Relax, if I wanted you dead, you wouldn’t be alive.”
Confused, Wade looked around. “Where am I? My wife, where is she? Therese,” he began yelling. “Is she here too?”
“Calm down,” Giovanni said, his voice slightly raised, causing Wade to press his lips together in fear.
“Don Gio, I didn’t offend you. I’m just looking for my wife. What if they hurt her? I couldn’t protect her,” he sobbed. Giovanni chuckled.
“That’s not what I heard. You took the bullets meant for her.”
“Yes, but I passed out, and the thugs were still there. I don’t know what happened after. Do you know where she is? What are you doing here?”
Discomfort filled Wade as he threw out all the questions, but Giovanni remained calm. “I have one question.”
Wade nodded, feeling irritated because he hadn’t seen Delanie, so Giovanni asked, “If given the chance, would you still sacrifice yourself for Therese?”
“Don, she’s my everything. Please, tell me where she is,” he pleaded, about to remove the tubes when Giovanni prevented him, instead pressing the call button.
A doctor and a nurse entered, checked on Wade, and confirmed he was doing fine, although the anesthesia hadn’t completely worn off. Giovanni then began to speak.
“I’m glad to hear everything you’ve said, because, your wife happens to be my daughter,” he revealed, and beeping sounds filled the room. Wade was unconscious from the shock.
