Chapter 128 The donor is in a coma
Everyone was curious, but the doctor appeared nervous. “Mr. Dawson, what is your relationship with the patient?”
He couldn’t recall the Dawsons having another son, but the care Roger showed indicated he was precious to them.
“He’s my brother-in-law, so out with it,” Roger demanded, making the doctor swallow tightly. Since when did Delanie get married? Afraid of the repercussions of delaying the information, he quickly revealed,
“Both of his kidneys have been damaged by bullet wounds. If we don’t find a donor within three days, we will lose him.”
The Dawsons hospital was renowned worldwide with numerous donors volunteering regularly. “There should be some donors on the list, right?” Roger asked. The doctor nodded. “Yes, but none of them are a match.”
“You can take mine,” Delanie interrupted. However, after checking her and every other volunteer, including Declan and Hendrix, none was a match.
Delanie threw herself into Roger’s arms and whispered through tears, “Roger, I’m pregnant, and I’m not having this baby without his father.”
Roger’s heart momentarily stopped. He had forgotten his earlier warning to her not to get pregnant. “You mean my niece or nephew is growing in your belly?”
Delanie nodded, and Roger assured her, “Don’t worry, Wade will be fine.”
Oriana hurried over and suggested, “I called his best friend. If Delanie’s identity is exposed, he could come and see if he’s a match, right?”
Roger did not refuse. The moment he saw the coverage on TV, showing Wade’s stocks plummeting, his mind was made up.
His parents might not like Wade, but he had enough video footage to prove to them that Delanie made the right choice. “Go ahead.”
Less than thirty minutes after Oriana’s call, Chad arrived, looking shocked by the situation. The woman he thought was poor turned out to be the heir of the richest family in the world.
There was no time for questions, but after the test, he was also not a match.
Roger was the only one who hadn’t allowed himself to be tested. After receiving information from his spies, he went to the doctor’s office to get tested.
“Mr. Dawson, you are a match. Do you want us to prepare you for the surgery?” Roger shook his head. “Not yet. There’s something I need to take care of.”
He walked out of the office before the doctor could speak another word and called Karen to the side.
“Kitten, I’ll be away for a while. Mom and dad will be arriving any moment from now. Can you hold the fort?”
Karen refused. “Only if you tell me where you are going?” She knew she couldn’t stop him but did not want to be kept out of the loop.
“I have to find who did this. They targeted my sister, and I have to clean up this mess before Dad arrives.”
Karen was never used to the life of violence, but after her few encounters, she knew how necessary it was. Whoever targeted Delanie, getting Wade almost killed in the process had to pay. “Okay, but you have to return before midnight, do you understand?”
Roger stared at her affectionately, kissing her on the lips. “I can’t promise, but I will be back to give him one of my kidneys.”
Before Karen could process his words, his lips sealed hers once again before he turned around and disappeared around the corner. He was a match, meaning there was hope for Wade.
“What did he tell you?” Delanie asked after Roger left. Karen smiled at her. “Don’t worry. Wade will be fine.”
Delanie was the only one allowed to go see Wade at the intensive care unit, and when she heard the commotion outside, she quickly went to check.
“Mom, Dad,” she went to embrace her parents, who were so angry after hearing the news but smiled when they saw her. Everyone was pained now, but hers would be worse.
“You proved us wrong in the end,” Giovanni said affectionately, but it only made Delanie sob. “Perhaps if my identity was revealed earlier, then they wouldn’t have even tried.” She trembled from fear.
What if Wade doesn’t make it after the transplant? “Lani, everyone who tried to hurt you would not only pay with their lives but with that of their families as well,” her father comforted her, and so did her mother.
Chad froze from where he stood after going to get some snacks for everybody. This was his first time meeting the legendary Giovanni Dawson, and his aura made him tremble. He wasn’t wrong when he mentioned the striking resemblance between Delanie and Molly, wondering how Wade was going to take the news.
It was just a while ago he realized that Therese wasn’t even her name but rather Delanie.
“Gio, how is everything going?” Hank spoke from the doorway with Nora by his side, the atmosphere was gloomy.
“There isn’t much we can do from here, but I want to know whoever is behind it. Roger refused to share that information and I can’t even reach him.”
Hank patted Giovanni on the shoulder. “Roger is good at this. You don’t have to worry about his safety.”
Giovanni agreed but could not hide the fact that he was missing Roger. No matter how strong he was, Roger would always be his little kid. “But we still have to see if he needs our help.”
They tried every means to track but couldn’t reach Roger. It was as if he cut everyone off, sending worry shivers through them.
However, as they dozed off for a few hours, the doctor stepped out of the theatre and informed them, “The surgery was successful but…”
“But what?” Giovanni asked seriously, his voice waking the others from their slumber. “Wait, didn’t Lani mention that we were waiting for a donor?”
The doctor was sweating. Don was here himself but his question and expression didn’t show that he was aware of what transpired.
“Don, the donor is in a coma.”
Karen paled instantly, being the only one aware of Roger’s plans. “Excuse me? What are you talking about? The donor is my husband and he isn’t even here yet.”
The atmosphere tensed up with all gazes pinned on the doctor, he felt like he was dipped into a pot of hot soup, afraid of what Don Gio might do to him.
“He…he re….” The doctor stammered, losing his balance and collapsing to the floor.
“Someone, give me something,” Giovanni yelled, the hospital trembled as a group of doctors and nurses came out to carry the collapsed doctor but Giovanni wouldn’t let them.
“Resuscitate him here. He has to tell me everything.”
