Chapter 123: Have You Ever Seen a Broke Bastard Give Away 20 Million in One Go
Chapter 123: Have You Ever Seen a Broke Bastard Give Away 20 Million in One Go
"Idiot?" The saleswoman's expression turned serious. "Miss, please show some respect. Yes, we work at a sales office, but that's no reason for you to look down on us."
"Oh, so you're picking a fight with me?" Theresa grew even more arrogant. "Then you'd better apologize to me right now — say 'I was wrong' three times, and I'll stop looking down on you."
The saleswoman was furious.
She was the one who'd done something wrong, yet she was demanding an apology. This young woman had absolutely no limits.
"Miss, I'm not sure what I did to offend you, or why I owe you an apology. Please explain."
The saleswoman kept her composure. She hadn't expected that simply telling the truth would set off this girl beside her.
And now things had gotten even more ridiculous — the girl was actually demanding an apology.
"What? You seriously don't know what you did wrong?" David let out a cold laugh. "My girlfriend is upset because you took that broke loser's side and called him 'unbelievable.'"
"What's so unbelievable about him? Honestly, I think this guy is just plain stupid — hahaha!"
David burst out laughing.
Sure, Anthony not being dead was a bit annoying, but mocking him like this took the edge off his frustration.
"Plain stupid? Are you sure about that?" The saleswoman's expression stayed serious.
David kept laughing. "What's there to be unsure about? This guy is a total idiot and a broke loser. He did three years in prison — and it wasn't even for his own crime. The moment he got out, he got kicked out of the family."
"On top of that, it came out that he's just an adopted son of the Bruce family."
"Which means Anthony has zero claim to anything the Bruce family has going forward."
"If you ask me, this guy is just cursed."
"And you looked at him like he was something amazing, saying he was 'even more unbelievable'?"
Theresa couldn't hold back her laughter either. "Haha, David, you're so right. Though maybe our saleswoman was calling this broke, stupid guy 'unbelievable' sarcastically — isn't that right?"
David paused, then burst out laughing.
"Haha, yeah, yeah — I was a little slow just now, didn't catch it at first. She was being sarcastic!"
But before he could finish, a cold snort came from nearby.
"Sarcastic? Bold of you to say that. Have you ever seen a broke person casually throw out twenty million and live in Hiram Manor Unit One? Give me a break."
The one who snorted was Isabelle, standing right beside them.
David immediately fell quiet.
He'd seen Isabelle once or twice at large banquets before.
But every time, she was the undisputed center of attention.
And he could only watch from a distance.
He never expected Isabelle to speak up for Anthony — and to say something about twenty million and Hiram Manor Unit One.
Was she talking about Anthony?
How was that even possible?
He was still reeling in shock when Theresa jumped in eagerly with a question.
She recognized Isabelle too, of course.
Though "recognized" only went one way — Theresa knew who Isabelle was, but Isabelle had no idea who Theresa was.
Simply put, Isabelle was a well-known public figure and famous CEO in Colorado. Most people could put a name to her face.
"Ms. Isabelle, are you saying Anthony casually gave away twenty million and lives in Hiram Manor Unit One? Could there be some kind of mistake?"
Theresa chose her words carefully when speaking to Isabelle.
Her expression was cautious.
Isabelle wasn't Poppy. One wrong move and she'd be in real trouble.
"A mistake? No way." Isabelle's tone was firm. "Right now, the deed to Hiram Manor Unit One is in Mr. Bruce's name."
"And he just gave this young woman twenty million."
"Wh— what?"
Coming from Isabelle's mouth, those words hit like a bomb going off right in front of Theresa.
David's face was equally stunned.
He stared at Anthony, completely unable to believe it.
Now he was starting to understand where Anthony's unshakable confidence came from.
Had Anthony really become this powerful?
If everything Isabelle said was true, it made sense — why Anthony had looked so calm and untouchable no matter what was thrown at him, why he didn't even bother giving someone like David a second glance.
But he'd only been out of prison for such a short time. How was this possible?
David's eyes flickered, his shock leaving him at a loss.
"So Anthony gave Poppy twenty million, and just handed her this luxury suite on top of that..." After hearing everything Isabelle said, Theresa nearly jumped out of her skin.
Her face went through a whole range of expressions — like someone who'd just been scalded by boiling water out of nowhere.
She couldn't hold it in. A cry escaped her lips.
"This... this is absolutely unbelievable."
The saleswoman beside her curled her lip and let out a cold snort.
"I already said it — what's even more unbelievable is your male classmate. But did any of you listen? You just kept acting like you owned the place."
"Now that Ms. Isabelle has confirmed it herself, what do you have to say?"
"I... I..." Theresa's mouth twitched. She couldn't get a word out.
But the shock on her face said everything — the regret, the disbelief.
Damn it. She never in a million years expected Anthony to be a dark horse hiding in plain sight.
And she had mistaken pure gold for dirt.
All because she thought Anthony had just gotten out of prison, so she'd gone to break off their engagement without a second thought.
When she told him, Anthony had barely hesitated — which had puzzled her at the time. Why had he agreed so easily?
Now she understood. Anthony had always had something solid to stand on.
Now she finally got it — why he hadn't begged or clung on like she'd expected.
The most likely reason was that he had no shortage of women in his life. In other words, he simply didn't need her.
The realization hit her like a wave of cold air.
Regret, shame, shock, confusion — Theresa felt like slapping herself across the face right then and there.
