Chapter 64 Unexpected love

ADRAIN

Lila stood near the door, her arms crossed, looking at me with a mixture of fear and curiosity. Predicting what she’d just seen. Most people would’ve run.

“You really shouldn’t have stayed,” I said, keeping my voice calm but low.

“I wanted to see,” she replied, voice steady but a little breathless. “See how you handle… situations.”

I raised an eyebrow. “And?”

She tilted her head, a smirk playing on her lips. “You’re… efficient. Ruthless. I don’t know if I should be impressed or scared.”

I took a step closer, keeping my movements deliberate. “You should be both.”

Her gaze met mine, unflinching. There was something in the way she looked at me, fearless, maybe even a little mischievous. I felt the pull immediately. That tension between us that had been simmering since she arrived, undefining.

“You know,” she said, stepping a little closer, “most people wouldn’t have moved that fast. But you… you didn’t hesitate. Not for a second.”

I smiled faintly, letting the silence stretch between us. “I don’t get second chances.”

She tilted her head, letting her hair brush against her shoulder. “Neither do I.”

There it was, the spark. A recognition. We both knew the danger of our world, the fragility of trust, and yet… something else was there. A connection I couldn’t ignore.

Without thinking, I closed the distance between us. She didn’t step back. She leaned in slightly, her eyes holding mine, daring me. My hand brushed hers, almost by accident, and her fingers didn’t move away.

“You’re walking a dangerous line,” I murmured, low, feeling the heat of her presence.

“And you like it,” she countered, her voice soft but challenging.

I swallowed. The air thickened. My heart wasn’t supposed to race in moments like this, but it did. I reached for her face, tracing her jawline with my thumb. She didn’t flinch. She let me.

“You know this… whatever this is…” I began, my voice husky, “doesn’t mean anything if we’re careless.”

Her lips curved in a teasing, almost predatory smile. “I’m careful… until I’m not.”

That was all the permission I needed. I closed the space completely, brushing my lips against hers in a brief, testing kiss. Electric. Quick.

She pulled back slightly, wanting more but holding back. “You’re… dangerous,” she whispered, her breath warmed my lips.

“And you’re reckless,” I countered, smirking. “Exactly the kind of person I shouldn’t be drawn to.”

“I like to test limits,” she said, her voice low, intimate. “Especially dangerous ones.”

I laughed softly, letting my hand linger near her waist. “You’re going to get me in trouble.”

“Already too late,” she said, leaning just enough to press her forehead to mine.

Finally, I pulled back slightly, letting the moment hang. “We’ll deal with the aftermath later,” I said, my voice low.

She smiled, a little wicked, a little satisfied. “I’ll hold you to that.”

She began scrolling through her phone.
Something in me needed her close again, I moved closer.

“Can’t stay away, huh?” she said without turning.

I stepped closer, closing the space between us. “You know me too well.”

She finally turned, eyes locking on mine, lips parting slightly. “Maybe. Or maybe I just like testing limits.”

I reached for her, pulling her gently into my arms. She didn’t resist. Not at all.

“This is… reckless,” I murmured, my lips brushing against hers again, slower this time, more deliberate.

“Mmh,” she responded, a small sigh, encouraging, teasing. “I like reckless.”

Her hands slid up my chest, her fingers threading into my shirt, gripping me, pulling me closer. The air between us thickened.

I deepened the kiss, letting my hands roam her back, feeling her respond, arching into me. She pressed against me, soft but insistent, claiming the space as much as I did.

We broke apart briefly, breathing heavy, our foreheads touching. Her eyes smiled.

“You’re dangerous, you want to say something.” she whispered again.

“ you’re irresistible,” I countered, voice rough.

She laughed softly, almost a purr, and pressed herself against me once more. “Careful, Adrain… you’re making this very difficult to resist.”

“I’ve never been good at resisting,” I admitted, letting my hands roam around her curves.

Her lips found mine again, this time slower, more consuming, as if we both knew the next few moments could never be taken back. Every brush of her mouth, every sigh, every whispered word tethered us tighter, drawing us into something neither of us wanted to escape.

Finally, we pulled apart slightly, just enough to look at each other. She rested her forehead on mine, soft and steady.

“We shouldn’t… not here,” she breathed.

I smirked, feeling the pull between us, the need. “Then let’s find somewhere private.”

Her eyes sparkled with agreement, anticipation, and challenge all at once. “Lead the way.”

And just like that, the lines between partnership, trust, and desire blurred completely. We moved together, silent and deliberate, the world outside fading, leaving only the heat, the tension, and the promise of what was coming next.
