Chapter ninety-one

Chapter ninety-one
It's been almost a week since Hunter had left the country with his men.

He hadn't told Mirabella the real reason. Not because he wanted to lie, but because he didn’t want her getting too worried about him. If she had an idea of what he was dealing with, she would never sleep again.

He'd boarded his private jet with Victor, Ramos beside him and ten of his most trusted and trained men behind them. It was a cold night and he barely slept through the whole flight.

They landed in New York at dawn. The moment he stepped outside the airport hangar, Mik’s right-hand man, Yuri, was already waiting for them with three SUVs.

“Groves,” Yuri greeted, shaking Hunter’s hand tightly. “It’s been bad. Really bad. They attacked the estate and we are barely holding up”

Hunter nodded once. “Take us to your boss”

They didn’t waste time. The drive was fast and silent and filled with alpha energies. Snow fell heavily and covered the whole city.

Mikhail Sergeyev was not just an acquaintance. He was one of the very few men Hunter respected in the underground world. Years ago, Mik had saved Hunter’s life. And recently, he helped him in tracing his woman's whereabouts when she left. Without Mik, Hunter might never have found his family till now.

So when a force like Mikhail called with panic in his voice, he knew that things must really have been tight for the man so Hunter didn’t hesitate for even one second.

He owed him.

When they reached one of Mik’s estates, a connection of huge mansions sitting behind steel gates… Hunter stepped out and immediately saw a warzone.

Gunshots cracked from the distance.

Broken glass covered the ground like glittering ice.

Smoke curled up from the far end of the property.

They had really brought the fight to his doorstep.

Victor swore under his breath. “Damn… this is worse than what I imagined”

Hunter didn’t answer. His jaw tightened. His eyes were cold and focused. He pushed the gate open himself and walked in, his men following behind.

“Mik!” he shouted.

Mik came out from behind a destroyed wall, bruised and with dust on his face, disoriented, but alive. “Hunter Groves” he breathed out, relief in his voice. “You came”

“I said I would” Hunter replied, gripping his forearm firmly. “What happened?”

Mikhail exhaled sharply. “The Orlov Bratva. They think I killed Anton Orlov… their leader’s son”

Hunter frowned deeply. “Anton is dead?”

“Yes,” Mik spat angrily. “But not by my hands. Not anywhere near my people. Someone must have dumped his body on my territory to frame me. A perfect excuse for a clash”

Hunter took a deep breath. It made sense. The Orlovs were powerful, cold, and dangerous. Led by Grigoriy Orlov… a man known for leaving cities burning behind him.

“And your daughter? They still have her?” Hunter asked quietly.

Mikhail’s face darkened. “Yes! They kidnapped her. Two nights ago”

Hunter’s body went still for a moment. He felt the sting of anger behind his ribs. He didn’t like women being dragged into battles. It disgusted him. It was a weakness. Pure weakness.

“We need to get her back. Please” Mikhail continued. “They must not kill her. They want blood, Hunter. Mine. My family. And now, Wendy is all I have got”

Hunter nodded once. “Then we have no time. Let’s finish this”

The only thing keeping him focused through the whole thing was the woman he left behind.

His mind was always with Mirabella.

Whenever he closes his eyes and sees her smile.
He heard her laugh.
He could imagine her sweet vanilla scent even from afar.

He misses her. Too much.
He wants to leave everything and just go back to her.
He wants her beside him at all times. He wants Rena in his arms. He wants his family real bad.

He could never have believed that such attachment could be real if he hadn't experienced it himself.

He tried to sleep, but every time he turned, he imagined her in his bed… warm, soft skin, peaceful… and it hurt him to be this far away.

The tension had reduced and everyone could somehow breathe and think of something else other than being attacked.

Hunter was cleaning his gun when his phone rang that evening.

It was Ziko

Hunter had assigned Ziko to secretly watch over Mirabella, and every now and then, he calls to give an update of how the day went.

But today, Ziko was calling a little too early which made Hunter’s heart jerk involuntarily.

He picked up. “Yes?”

The man’s voice was trembling.
Like really trembling.

“B-bboss… it’s Mirabella”

Hunter’s whole body went still.

“What about her?” he asked, voice low and deadly.

“B-boss… she… she… she’s been taken”

Hunter froze.

For the first time in many years…

His heart stopped beating.

The man continued, voice shaking violently:

“B-oss… Mirabella… she’s been kidnapped”

Hunter dropped the gun.

His vision turned red and blurred.

He forgot how to breath for a moment

His rage exploded like a bomb inside his chest.

“What did you just say?” he asked in a voice so cold even Victor turned to look at him.

“S-she’s gone, boss. They dragged her into a car. I couldn’t stop them. I… I… I’m so sorry. They took her… they…”

Hunter’s roar shook the room.

A deep, wild, murderous sound tore from his chest.

Every man in the house turned toward him, startled.

Victor stepped forward. “Devil! What happened?”

Hunter didn’t answer.

He grabbed his coat hanging on a chair and wire over his shoulder.

His voice was quiet… too quiet when he spoke.

“They took Mirabella”

Victor’s eyes widened.

Hunter’s jaw clenched so tightly he could barely breathe.

“I’m going back” he growled.
“And I’m fucking going to kill every single mother fucking bastard involved in this”

He stormed out, his eyes dark with absolute fury.

The whole world could burn.

He was going back for his woman

And God help the men who touched her.

Without hesitation, his men followed him and arranged to go back with him.

They took the little that was important. No waste of time.

When they got to the airport, Hunter's private jet was already set and waiting.

No one had a smile or threw greetings around as usual. Everyone had a serious and ready to kill face.
