Chapter 93
Chapter 93
Fire and Ashes.
Damian’s POV.
Gunfire rattled through the cavernous hall, ricocheting against the steel beams and shattering chandeliers overhead. I pressed Claire down behind a column, my arms wrapped protectively around her chest as shards of glass rained around us.
Lucian’s men swarmed the room like a black tide, their weapons trained with military precision. And at the center of it all, Tatiana Solokov stood tall, her cold eyes glimmering with the fire of legacy.
“Damian!” Rafael’s voice cut through the chaos as he fired a burst that dropped two of Lucian’s soldiers.
“We’re pinned here. We need to move now!”
My jaw clenched. My gaze flicked to where Lucian stood on the balcony above, orchestrating the carnage like a conductor. Betrayal dripped from his every command, every calculated glance toward me.
Lucian smirked down at me, that familiar arrogance now twisted with venom. “You should have stayed dead, Damian. You were never fit to lead this world. I’ll finish what your father started. Burying you under the weight of your weakness.”
The word sliced deeper than bullets. I tightened my grip on Claire’s hand. “Stay close. When I move, you follow.”
Her eyes locked with mine, fear warring with stubborn defiance. She gave a sharp nod.
With a sudden roar, I broke from cover, spraying fire across the balcony’s edge. Lucian ducked back, laughing, while Tatiana signaled her men forward with ruthless efficiency.
The battle had already begun.
The clash spiraled into chaos. My elites and I pushed forward inch by inch, weaving behind pillars as bullets tore through the hall. Rafael covered our flank, his expression carved from granite, while Viktor swung in from the side, blades flashing in close-quarter strikes when ammunition ran low.
Tatiana moved like a phantom, cutting down hesitation with ruthless swiftness. Her voice carried across the hall.
“Hold the line. Bring him to me alive. Lucian wants him breathing.”
I snarled under my breath. Alive. For what? Torture? Execution? Or perhaps to make me kneel before Tatiana’s new reign?
I caught sight of Lucian again. My once-brother-in-arms looked almost regal in betrayal, his coat whipping in the crossfire as though he was untouchable. Every command he gave was precise, practiced. This wasn’t impulsive treachery. It was planned. Years in the making.
“Damia!” Claire’s cry snapped my attention back. A gunman had her cornered. Fury surged like wildfire. I lunged, emptying my clip into the bastard’s chest, blood splattering across the marble floor.
“You’re mine, Damian!” Tatiana roared, stepping forward at last, a dagger gleaming in her hand. Unlike her men, she didn’t cower behind guns. She wanted blood up close.
Our eyes locked. Two heirs bound by legacy, betrayal, and vengeance.
“Come and take it,” I growled, raising my weapon, even as the world seemed to tighten around us.
Tatiana struck first. She darted forward with lethal grace, her blade flashing toward my throat. I barely blocked in time, the dagger slicing through my forearm instead. Pain flared. But rage steadied me.
Claire screamed my name, but I forced her back.
“Stay behind me!”
The fight spiraled into a brutal rhythm. Tatiana’s knife against my fist, her strikes fast and merciless, my counter driven by raw survival and fury.
Above us, Lucian watched like a viper, his lips curled into something between pride and cruelty. “That’s it, Damian. Spill her blood, or let her spill yours. Either way, you lose.”
My chest heaved. “You planned this from the start, didn’t you? My father, the wars, the alliances, you were playing both sides.”
Lucian’s smile widened. “You’re sharp, finally. But too late. I promised Tatiana her empire, and in return, she promised me everything you stole. Power, loyalty…even her bed.”
Tatiana’s smirk confirmed. “You were never my target, Damian. You were just the last obstacle in a legacy carved long before you were born.”
The words were poison, but my fury grew sharper. I blocked another slash, twisting Tatiana’s arm before she broke free, her dagger grazing my ribs.
“You’ll never rule as long as I breathe,” I snarled.
Tatiana’s eyes glimmered like ice. “Then breathe your last.”
The duel raged through the hall, steel clashing against flesh and marble. Around us, the gunfire slowed as both sides seemed to recognize the gravity of what was unfolding; Damian versus Tatiana. Heir versus heir.
Lucian descended the balcony, calm amidst the storm. He clapped mockingly as though entertained.
“Beautiful, isn’t it? Blood deciding who deserves the throne. Exactly as it should be.”
My chest burned, my vision blurring from blood loss, but I refused to falter. I ducked Tatiana’s swing, slamming her against a pillar with enough strength to crack stone. Yet she only laughed, blood at the corner of her mouth.
“You fight with anger,” she hissed. “But anger makes you sloppy.”
Her knees slammed into my stomach, forcing me back. She longed for kill only to be intercepted.
Claire.
She hurled a broken shard of glass straight into Tatiana’s shoulder, buying me precious seconds. “You don’t get to kill him!” She screamed, her voice raw with desperation.
Tatiana staggered, snaring as she ripped the shard free, blood pouring down her arm. “You’ll pay for that, little mouse.”
I seized the opening, driving my fist into her jaw, sending her sprawling.
Lucian stepped forward at last, his smirk never fading.
“Impressive, brother. But this ends with me.”
The betrayal crystallized into its final shape. The real enemy was no longer Tatiana. It was Lucian the ghost who faked his death, the traitor who had orchestrated everything.
The air turned electric as Lucian drew his weapon. A sleek black pistol, the kind reserved for executioners. He leveled it at me, his hand steady, his eyes filled with cold satisfaction.
“Everything you built, I’ll burn,” Lucian said softly. “And I’ll make Claire watch as it all crumbles.”
Claire’s gasp echoed, but I stepped forward, shielding her with my body. My voice was steady despite the blood dripping from my wounds. “You should’ve killed me when you had the chance, Lucian. Because now, I’m going to end this.”
Our glaze locked. One born of betrayal, the other of vengeance.
Tatiana staggered to her feet, dagger still in hand, her loyalty to Lucian clear in her icy glare. For a heartbeat, I was strapped between them, Lucian’s pistol aimed at my heart, Tatiana’s blade poised for my throat.
The hall fell silent, allies and enemies alike frozen by the gravity of the moment.
Then I moved.
With a roar, I lunged, knocking Lucian’s arm wide just as the gun went off. The shot rang out, sparking against marble. Tatiana lunged at my exposed side, but Claire threw herself forward, tackling Tatiana with every ounce of strength she had.
The four of us crashed into chaos, steel and fire and blood coilliding in a storm that would decide everything. Love, loyalty, and legacy.
The real war had just begun.
