CHAPTER EIGHTY EIGHT
CHAPTER EIGHTY EIGHT
Delora
"Last night she threw the soup at the maid, said she didn't want to have soup"
"But why throw it?" I asked Denise who shrugged her shoulders.
It was late in the afternoon, and she decided to pay me a visit. As usual, she never comes empty-handed. She came with a bowl of white rice and baked chicken and peas.
"I am guessing these are all foods she refused to eat," I said, and she nodded, taking another spoonful of rice.
"Yeah, I hope she keeps rejecting food like this, I mean bad for her but good for us" she said and we both chuckled.
Since Denise visited all she had talked about was Odessa and how she was coping with her pregnancy. She really was giving everybody a hard time. I know that pregnancies are different with women with wolves but shouldn't the difference help them better? Cause if I have anything to say I can totally say my pregnancy is going well.
"She's a dick"
"Stop it! Anyone can hear you!" I scolded Denise and she wasn't even bothered about it.
"Anyone can be a she, I mean I didn't mention any names did I?" Well she didn't.
"If that's the case then maybe it's because she doesn't know how to handle being pregnant"
"And you can? I don't see you throwing food at people" she said and I chuckled.
"It's not like I have any to throw at people" I said and she rolled her eyes.
"You just think like that because she's been nice to you, she hasn't been to any of us and that makes me question why she's nice to you" she said and I frowned pausing on the spoon of rice that was about to go into my mouth.
"Well for one I am the only one on a life sentence punishment" I said even though something about what she said struck me but I wasn't going to think about it.
"Whatever. You should save the rest of the food for later" she said setting her spoon down.
"Have some more, besides Esau brings me something sometimes" I said and she smiled staring at me like I grew an extra pair of eyes.
"What?" I asked.
"So he brings you food?"
"Yes, what's wrong with that? He's my friend and he's being nice" I replied but clearly Denise was not satisfied with that response.
"There's everything wrong with that, a man won't just be nice to you. It's obvious he likes you"
"You're nice to me Denise, do you like me?" I asked and she blinked very fast I had to chuckle.
"Well I am not a man and yes I do like you but trust me my liking you has nothing to do with seeing you naked"
She said and I rolled my eyes.
"Well I doubt he wants to see me naked"
"All men want to see you naked! Just be careful" she said and I smiled.
"Speaking of being careful I think something is going on here on the farm" I said lowering my voice.
"What do you mean?" She asked leaning in and also speaking in hushed whispers.
"Some nights ago I uhh saw something"
"What?!" She asked sounding very curious.
"A man, he looked very frail and Esau's father was tending to him"
"And by tending you mean cleaning him up or feeding him?" She asked.
"Feeding him, but I doubt that's all he does. The man looked extremely sick that which bothers me"
"Ask him about it then" she said shrugging he shoulders and I sighed.
"He saw me that night and he didn't react well. And the next morning he saw me he wasn't very nice trust me, he warned me about going near the man if I wanted to remain here"
"That was clearly a warning" she said opening her eyes so wide I almost freaked out.
"I know, he was so angry. And it is like Esau knows nothing about this mystery man" I said and she sighed.
"Maybe he didn't tell his son, I mean who keeps a sick man in an abandoned building and comes to feed him at night?"
"That's what's weird, I am so curious that I can't stop myself from trying to find out"
"Don't! You're going to put yourself in a whole lot of trouble for snooping around" she said and I know she was right but this was something I couldn't promise I wasn't going to do.
"I mean it, this could be something huge and you are already in trouble I don't think it's advisable to get into more trouble" she said and I nodded.
"I understand, I won't go snooping around and I will try not to get into trouble" I said and she calmed down.
"So back to Esau, do you like him?" She asked and I shook my head.
"I don't think so, I mean I like that he is nice and all but I don't think I like him like him" I said and she nodded slowly.
"You still like him?" She asked and I didn't even have to ask who the him she was talking about was.
"I do not! It's incredibly disturbing that you would think I still have any sort of feelings for him after what he has done to me" I said fuming with anger.
The thing is, despite all he has done and is doing. I couldn't forget about the moments we had spent together, they were short but they had been the best moments in my life, he saw me as a person and I would not forget that. Although he has forgotten that fact now but he was the father of my baby, a part of him.
"Good, because he doesn't deserve it, I mean he's a good king and all but he is not a nice person" she said and I smiled sadly.
"Well it is because of him I am still alive that should count for something" I said and she disagreed
Well, I tried to make her see reasons why he wasn't so bad but she wasn't interested.
"I should get going" she said standing up.
"Thank you" I said smiling.
She pulled me into a hug and patted my back like a child.
"Be careful Delora, you don't know these people properly and if something happens you can't save yourself so stay out of trouble" she said and I nodded. It was good advice and a very good reminder.
