Chapter 70 Part 2

Chapter 70 Part 2
Vincent

As Nelly sat lost in thought, I entered the room, my eyes narrowing as I took in her expression. "Nelly, what's wrong?" I asked, my voice laced with concern.

Nelly shook her head, her hands twisting in her lap. "It's... It's nothing, Vincent. Just a lot to process."

My eyes searched hers, a throb of unease settling in my chest. I crossed the room, my hands cupping her cheeks, tilting her head up to meet my gaze. "Nelly, what aren't you telling me?"

Nelly's eyes filled with tears, her voice wobbling. "I... I can't, Vincent. Not yet. I need to understand it all myself, first."

My heart ached at her expression, but I nodded, pulling her into my arms. I held her, rocking her gently, my mind racing. I felt a shift in our dynamic, a new tension, a new secret, and I knew, with a sinking feeling in my stomach, that it had everything to do with Quinn.

Later that night, tucked away in the intimate confines of my study, I pored over ancient tomes, my mind racing. I'd seen Nelly and Quinn together, seen the look in Quinn's eye, the possessive hunger that had made my blood run cold. I knew that look all too well, had seen it in my reflection. It was the look of a man claiming his mate.

My eyes landed on an old, leather-bound book, the title faded but legible: "The Mating Rituals of the Loup-Garou". My heart raced as I thumbed through the pages, my eyes scanning the intricate details of the werewolf mating ritual. My gaze caught on a passage, a chill running down my spine:

The bonding begins with a Claiming. A kiss, a touch, a taste that seals the bond between mates. The Claimed will feel a pull towards their Claimant, a desire they cannot resist. But be warned, the Claiming is fickle, powerful, and often painful...

My heart raced as I reread the words, the pieces falling into place. The secret conversations I'd witnessed between Nelly and Quinn, their heated glances, and the tension that had grown between them all. It was the Claiming. It had to be.

A sharp knock at the door startled me, my head snapping up as Alec entered the room, his eyes flicking to the book in my hands. "Vincent, what are you reading?" he asked, his voice laced with caution.

I stood, holding out the book to Alec. "The truth, Alec. About Nelly, about Quinn, about us."

Alec's eyes widened as he scanned the pages, his expression growing darker with each word. When he looked up, his eyes were filled with fear and betrayal. "Vincent, what are we going to do? We can't... we can't fight this."

My expression hardened, my hands clenching into fists. "Yes, we can. We may not be able to fight fate, Alec. But we can sure as hell wrestle it to the ground and make it listen to reason. And if it won't..." I paused, my eyes flashing with a dark intensity. "Then we'll just have to make our own destiny." Now all of his jokes about werepups make sense. He has been hiding this secret all along.
