Chapter 70: Unseen Truths
Chapter 70: Unseen Truths
Nelly
The sun streamed through the grand windows of Blancvue Mansion, casting a golden glow over the decadent furnishings. I sat alone in the solarium, a cup of tea untouched before me, my mind a whirlwind of emotion. Last night had been... intense. Vincent, Alec, and I had crossed a line, a boundary I hadn't known existed. And yet, it felt... right, overwhelmingly so. But it also meant leaving behind the safety of my old world, the rules and expectations I'd grown up with.
One of those expectations is that family is sacred and vows are to be honored. My love for Vincent hasn’t changed, but that pull to Alec was there when we first met because I felt comfortable around him as if he were a kindred spirit. Then there’s Quinn, since I stood up to him, he has been one of my protectors. Now, he was something else entirely, something I wasn't sure how to navigate.
"Nelly," Quinn's voice cut through her thoughts, his lean frame filling the doorway. His eyes, usually so bright and mischievous, were guarded today. "Can we talk?"
I nodded, gesturing to the seat beside me. "Of course. What's on your mind, Quinn?"
Quinn hesitated before sitting, his fingers drumming a restless tattoo on his thigh. "What's going on with you and Vincent, Nelly? And... Alec?" His voice caught on the last name, his jaw clenching slightly.
I sighed, rubbing my temples. "It's complicated, Quinn. I... I care for them both. In ways I can't quite explain."
Quinn's eyes flashed, a hint of the wolf he hid so well shining through. "Care for them, Nelly? Or do you love them?" He leaned forward, his voice dropping to a low growl. "I know you love Vincent, but if you love Alec too, from where I'm sitting, it looks like you're playing with fire. And you're going to get burned."
My eyes widened at the intensity in his voice. "Quinn, what are you saying? This... this is all so new, so confusing. I can't help how I feel." I paused, studying his face. "What about you, Quinn? You're not innocent in this, are you?"
Quinn's eyes fell to his hands, his fingers tightening into fists. "No," he admitted softly. "I'm not. I've had... feelings, for a while now. For both of you."
I gasped, my heart pounding in my chest. "Quinn, what are you saying? You... you can't be serious."
Quinn looked up, his eyes fierce and determined. "I am, Nelly. Deadly. I didn't want to admit it, even to myself. But seeing you with Vincent, with Alec... it made me realize. I want this, Nelly. Us. All of us."
I stood, pacing the room, my mind reeling. "Quinn, this is... It's madness. We're family. And Vincent... he's dangerous, Quinn. You know that."
Quinn stood, capturing my wrist, stopping her mid-stride. "We're not related, Nelly. And Vincent... yes, he's dangerous. But so am I. More than you know." He paused, conflict warring in his eyes. "I'm a werewolf hybrid, Nelly. I've kept it a secret, for your sake, for mine. But you need to understand, Nelly. This... this arrangement, it's not just about love. It's about survival."
My eyes widened, my heart pounding. "Survival? Quinn, what are you talking about?"
Quinn hesitated, then continued, "Wolves, Nelly, we mate for life. We find our mate, and we bond with them. It's eternal, Nelly. But it's also... risky. If something happens to our mate, we're lost. Forever. Unless..." He paused, his gaze holding mine. "Unless we share the bond. With more than one."
My breath caught, my mind racing. "You're saying... you're saying Vincent, Alec, and I... we could be your mates?"
Quinn's eyes softened, his thumb stroking my pulse point. "Yes, Nelly. If you'll have us."
I tipped my head back, my eyes closing as I grappled with his words. I felt a soft, warm touch on my lips, Quinn's mouth capturing mine in a gentle kiss. I melted into him, my arms wrapping around his neck, my body pressing against his. Quinn deepened the kiss, his hands roaming my body, his touch hungry, desperate.
But I pulled back, her heart aching. "Quinn, I... I need time. To think, to understand. This is all so... overwhelming."
Quinn's eyes darkened, but he nodded, stepping back. "I understand, Nelly. But remember, time is a luxury we may not have. The bond... It's already starting, for me at least. And once it begins, it's hard to resist."
My heart ached as I watched him walk away, my mind a whirlwind of confusion, longing, and fear. I turned back to the window, gazing out at the sprawling estate, my heart heavy with the weight of my newfound knowledge.
