Chapter 96 Be His Strength
Chapter 96 Be His Strength
\[Gianna’s POV\]
For the rest of the evening, Grant and I use our bodies to talk. He clings to me like I’m his lifeline, and I do everything I can to let him know that I’m here and that he isn’t alone.
When I asked him about his family, I didn’t expect it to be that painful and complicated, but I guess, I should have known better.
There was a reason that Anthony wasn’t the CEO of AandD Industries. There was a reason that he was allowed to marry my mother despite her not having anything beneficial. There was a reason that Grant had to go overseas and there was a reason that his father didn’t have a wife, but had two sons.
All the signs were there that his life wasn’t sunshine and roses, but then again, I didn’t expect things like that for those born into power. I watched enough dramas and saw enough on the news to know that there would always be a power struggle and those who held the power would have to be on their toes.
I want to be his safe space. I think as Grant shifts our position so that I’m straddling his lap. I want to at least be that.
“Grant,” I murmur, beginning to move my hips. “You can lean on me.”
“This wouldn’t work out properly if I did that.”
“Not like that,” I huff. “I mean in general.”
As I speak, his hands slide down my hips to my ass and when they squeeze, I let out a moan.
“Is now the time to be discussing this?” He asks. “Focus.”
“I am,” I tell him, my body humming with pleasure. “I’m focusing and that’s why I’m saying this. I want to be your strength and I want to help carry your load.”
I was being bold. I knew that. I knew that this wasn’t something you said to someone you were only married to because of a contract, but even then, I just couldn’t stand the thought of him suffering alone.
“Gianna,” Grant murmurs, his hand cupping the back of my neck so he can bring my mouth to his. “I don’t think you understand what you’re saying.”
“I do,” I whisper.
I press my forehead against his as I speak and I quicken my thrusts and when Grant’s hips start to move in rhythm with mine, I feel like I’m about to explode.
“I understand what I’m saying.” I tell him, my high building up. “And I mean what I’ve said.”
“Do you?” Grant groans. “What if I decide to take you up on that offer?”
“Then you will know that you’ve always got a safe space at home.”
“Mmmmm.”
Grant grows quiet, he doesn’t say anything more, but he doesn’t have to because I know that even if our marriage is a contract, we are partners. Even if we could never be true lovers, we could at least be friends and we could be each others home until our year deadline ended.
With this realization, my release comes and when it does, I feel like my whole body is on fire.
“Oh, fuck,” Grant groans, his hands digging into the flesh of my ass. “Gianna.”
The way he says my name is the way a true lover would say it and even though I know it’s dangerous, I let myself believe that just for now that is what we actually are.
Afterward, Grant and I lay together, our naked bodies meshed together, our arms tangled together.
I quietly listen to the sound of Grant’s heart beating in his chest and I find myself wishing that this moment could last.
However, I know that is impossible. There is still too much that needed to be dealt with and when tomorrow came Grant and I would have to face what threatened our happiness.
“Gianna,” Grant murmurs, drawing my gaze to his and when our eyes meet, I see something there that makes my heart squeeze. “I know that you think that you can be of help to me, but promise me something.”
“That depends,” I tell him.
“On?”
“What it is that you want me to promise you.” I tell him.
Growing quiet, I wait while Grant just takes me in, his gaze unreadable.
“I don’t want you getting involved in my family affairs.” He says slowly. “Things aren’t as simple as you may think they are.”
“I don’t think they are simple.” I tell him. “I said what I said understanding that things could get rocky, but even then, I want you to help you.”
“Then help me by staying out of trouble.” He tells me, leaning forward and kissing my forehead. “I won’t be able to properly do what I need to while wondering whether or not you and our child is okay.”
“Do you really think I would…”
“I do,” he says, his gaze serious and honestly, I can’t argue with him.
If there was one thing that I was good at, it was being spontaneous and not thinking before I acted.
“Promise me,” Grant pushes. “That you won’t do anything that could put you in danger.”
“Is your father that dangerous?” I ask.
For a moment, Grant doesn’t respond as he just stares at me, his gaze screaming the answer that has yet to come from his lips and when it does, I feel my heart skip a beat and a chill race down my spine.
“I don’t want to be the reason something happened to you. There was a reason that Olivia and Anthony didn’t want us involved and this is it.”
Nodding, I remember the reactions of those around us when they discovered that we were an item. Where I thought that my mother just didn’t think that I was good enough, it was because she most likely knew more about their family than I did, but even then, I wasn’t going to change my decision.
“Grandfather and Noel will be coming to stay with us.” Grant says now. “They can keep you company while I can’t.”
“In this small house?” I ask.
“Not here,” he chuckles. “I’ve already started looking for somewhere bigger. Once the payment is settled, we will move and I will bring grandfather to stay with us.”
“Understood.”
Then all that was left was waiting for the day that we moved and once we did, I could only hope that whatever it was that Grant had planned wouldn’t end up causing him any trouble or suffering.
“But you have to promise me something in return.” I tell him.
“What’s that?”
“That no matter what happens, you won’t hide anything from me.”
“I promise,” he smiles and I feel my breath hitch because smiling makes him look that much more handsome. “Did you just fall in love with me?”
“Maybe a little,” I giggle and press myself against him. “I’m suddenly worried, you know.”
“About what?” He asks, flipping our positions so he is hovering over me.
“I’m worried that I might have to fight off a ton of bitches because you’re too damn handsome.”
“Don’t worry,” he tells me, gently brushing his lips against mine. “I am an honest and loyal man. I won’t do anything to make you feel like you’re being played.”
