Chapter 210 Anniversary
Chapter 210 Anniversary
\[Collin’s POV\]
“Aren’t you going a bit too far with this?”
Vincent’s face shifts to a look of annoyance as he asks the question and when I shoot him a look that screams to just keep working, he lets out a huff of annoyance.
Honestly, if you asked the me from the past if this was too much, I would probably say yes, but when it came to Lilah, nothing was too much.
She was perfect and because she was, I needed everything to be perfect as well, especially after everything I put her through.
“You’re honestly thinking too hard about this.”
Vincent’s voice is even, sure, as he tells me this.
“You’ll understand when you’re in love.” I tell him, stepping back and taking in our hard work.
Since Lilah was at the hospital visiting with Donna, Vincent and I had the chance to prepare the home Lilah and I shared with our twins for the evening.
The living room was filled with red, orange, and peach balloons, the colors of the sunset and Lilah’s favorite and there was a trail of rose petals leading to the kitchen where I would be presenting a sizzling dinner for Lilah and me.
Of course, Nessa and Theo would be present, but they would be eating their soft food while I made a steak and salad for Lilah and myself.
On the table in the kitchen is candles and glasses for champagne and in my pocket was the ring that I would be presenting Lilah with.
Usually, this would all seem suspicious, but I picked the perfect day to set everything.
It was the day that Lilah and I officially declared our relationship a year ago and it was the perfect day to ask her to marry me.
“Are you sure about this?” Vincent asks now, drawing me back to the present. “After everything are you sure it is the best idea to get married again so soon?”
“I’m sure,” I tell him. “I’ve never been more sure about anything.”
There was no way that I wouldn’t be positive about wanting to marry Lilah, I mean, how could I not when I was so damn in love with her and we had already started a family? I absolutely wanted to tie her to me.
“Then I wish you luck, my friend.” Vincent sighs. “But don’t be too sad if she rejects you.”
“How can you say such a thing?” I demand. “Shouldn’t you be supporting me?”
“Honestly,” he trails off and I brace myself for whatever he is about to say, but before he can speak I hear the sound of the door unlocking. “Looks like she’s home.”
“She’s here earlier than expected.”
Turning, I head into the living room and watch as the front door opens and reveals Lilah bending over to pick up Nessa’s car seat.
“Let me help you!” I call, moving forward and grabbing Nessa. “You’re back early.”
“Mom was tired,” Lilah explains while stepping into the house.
As soon as she does and she sees what it looks like within, she goes on alert.
“What in the world?” She gasps, her gaze travelling around the area. “You’ve been busy.”
“Of course I have,” I chuckle, moving toward the couch and placing Nessa’s carseat on it so I can start unbuckling her. “Today is a special day.”
In more ways than one. I add silently while lifting Nessa into my arms while Lilah frees Theo.
“I guess it is.” Lilah agrees, though I can tell that she is on full alert. “Is Vincent going to be joining us for the occasion?”
“Nope,” Vincent responds, taking Lilah’s question as his cue to leave. “I’m heading out actually. You two have a good evening.”
“Bye!” Lilah calls at Vincent’s retreating form and once he is out of sight she turns to me. “He escaped pretty quick.”
“He doesn’t do well with things like this.” I explain. “How was your visit with Donna?”
“It was fine.” Lilah responds. “Mom is ready to leave the hospital, but Vincent insists she stay a bit longer.”
“He really is being overly cautious with her, huh?” I ask. “Anyway, are you hungry?”
“A bit,” Lilah responds. “Is dinner ready?”
“Not yet, but I can get it done quickly.”
“Oh, then I should go and give these two a bath.”
“Sure,” I smile. “You do that and once you finish, I’ll have dinner ready.”
Nodding, Lilah leans forward and gives me a kiss before taking Nessa from me and then she is moving. Only when she disappears up the stairs do I head into the kitchen where I busy myself cooking. As I do, I go over in my head how to go about asking Lilah to marry me.
By the time she finishes with the twins’ baths, she reappears and after placing Nessa and Theo in their high chairs, she takes a seat and fixes her gaze on me.
“Something smells good.” She notes as I plate up our meals and then head toward the kitchen table where my entire existence sits together waiting.
“Should I prepare their food?” Lilah asks, nodding toward the twins.
“No,” I tell her. “Just relax and let me take care of everything.”
“Alright.”
Smiling, I head back to the kitchen counter where I quickly fix Ness and Theo’s food. Once I’m done, I take a seat on my side of the table and spoon food for Theo while Lilah does the same for Nessa.
Like usual, we make sure that the kids eat properly before focusing on our own food and when we finally do, Lilah dives into hers like she is starving.
“Did you not eat today?” I ask a bit concerned. “You’re acting like you haven’t ate in a while.”
At my words, Lilah stops eating and when her gaze comes to rest on mine, I can see something there.
“What is it?” I ask, eyeing her. “Is there something you need to say?”
Growing quiet, I wait while Lilah stares at me, clearly thinking of what to say and when a slow smile spreads across her face, I brace myself.
“There actually is,” she beams. “But first, I have something to give you.” As she speaks, she reaches beneath the table and presents a box and when she passes it to me, I eye it curiously.
“What is it?” I ask.
“Just open it,” she sighs. “You’ll see soon.”
