Chapter 3 – Ogden

Waking up alone this morning put me in a fowl mood. I was expecting Willow to still be sleeping beside me, but when I woke, she was gone. Maybe I was too drunk last night and slept with someone who only looked like her. No, I knew it was her. As soon as I read her text to go to her room, I leapt out of the shower, threw on a robe and didn’t think twice.

Maybe she regretted sleeping with me. I know I am her boss, but that shouldn’t have made her escape without a sound. Ever since junior high, I had a huge crush on her. She was the cute wallflower that didn’t speak in class, or really speak to anyone for that matter. She would walk holding her books to her chest.

I wanted to go talk to her, but I was too proud to be seen talking to her. She wasn’t part of my group. I didn’t want to be teased by the other football players talking to a nobody. I should have just said screw it and went up to her, image be damned. But I was a fool.

I thanked God everyday that my cousin was her best friend. She would talk about Willow nonstop, and I could get bits and pieces of her life. If I wasn’t so proud, I would have asked her to go to the dance, or in high school to go to the prom. She was always absent from those activities. And every time I would go, I would pray that she would be there so I could see her dressed up. I may have worked up the courage to ask her to dance. And then it would have been all be downhill from there.

Who was I kidding? I was a dick back then and I’m a dick now. When I see her in the building, I pretend I don’t notice her. But in my peripheral, I would fixate on her. She would be talking to a coworker, laugh at a joke, or even just scanning a document. It didn’t matter, my heart would pound in my chest when I saw her.

When I broke up with my girlfriend right after we graduated, she cried and asked ‘why?’ I couldn’t tell her I was in love with someone else. I couldn’t tell her that it was the girl who no one noticed, and I was giving up the captain of the cheerleading squad because a quiet classmate stole my heart.

When Willow’s application graced my desk, I almost jumped for joy and pumped my fists in the air. I instantly told the hiring manager to hire her immediately. She asked if I wanted to interview her, I said no, just hire her. That bitch was trying to say that she didn’t have the qualifications for the position she was applying for. I told her I didn’t care, just hire her. Then, as the dick I was, said ‘if you don’t then I will have to find someone to replace you.’ That shut her up real quick, she scuttled back to her office and hired Willow immediately.

Even though I didn’t see her every day, it was enough that I knew she was in the same building. I was always half tempted to go into the security office and look at the videos of her working. But that was too stalkerish, and I couldn’t bring myself to do it. The security officers would question why my eyes would be glued to one specific worker.

I tightened my tie and looked down at my phone that was going off with texts nonstop. But not one from the person I wished would text me. Day in and day out, I would be bombarded by text messages from my colleagues. .

My secretary would list out meetings, then ask if I needed anything, then would say people wanted to talk to me. Didn’t they get it, there was a reason we had text and email, I didn’t want to talk on the phone. Most of my meetings could easily be emails, but for some damn reason they always wanted to present. I sat quietly listened and then would email them my response. Jokes on them, they should have just emailed me and saved themselves some time creating pointless presentations.

My secretary was outside of my room, going on and on about what I was going to be doing today. Most of the time I just ignored her. I knew she meant well, but I couldn’t focus on that. My focus was on Willow and how I had my tongue all over her body. Tasting her. Hearing her whimpers and moans. My dick was getting hard, I didn’t need to hide it. I was the boss and could do whatever the hell I wanted.

The rest of my close staff joined the group, I didn’t know when they started to follow, but they were there when we made it to the lobby. Chatting about the upcoming meeting that was ‘super important.’ One of the staff deemed it. We needed to convince this company to not sell off their assets and actually give us more money to continue with them and help them grow.

I shouldn’t even be here, but considering this was a huge contract, I made an appearance. And thank god I did, because if I didn’t I wouldn’t have been with Willow last night. I may have received that text but couldn’t do anything about it, being hundreds of miles away.

Matthew was going over the main points of the presentation that we would be covering, where the hell was George? He was the one that should be covering this meeting. I scanned the lobby, searching for the incompetent manager. Thank god Willow was on his team, I new she would be able to pull this contract through.

I spotted her crouched behind my cousin. That was proof that she was the one I slept with last night, but I needed further proof. I turned to my secretary, “Find out who stayed in room 1501 last night.”

My cousin wasted no time, I knew she would know what room her friend stayed in. “Hey, Will stayed in that room last night.” Sophia didn’t know that she just confirmed what I already knew, I was with my longtime crush.
