Chapter 57 - Talking with the Parents

Dennis and Andy went through Jon's kill location that Krista had given them with the crime scene team. They were planning on doing it earlier, but they had gotten sidetracked by the two prostitutes being killed and then going to NC. It had been a long day, and from the looks of it, it was going to be a long night.

Most of the rooms were empty, but the room where he killed the women was full of evidence. The mattress had so much blood on it that the team wanted to take it back to their lab for processing. There was a table full of instruments with blood on them. Some of the devices, even Dennis and Andy, didn't recognize.

They walked around the room and found the camera he used to record the murders. There was also a scrapbook that had pictures of all the women he killed before, during, and after their deaths. If there was any doubt about what he was, that would be gone as soon as anyone saw the scrapbook.

"How had he been able to get away with this for so long? Not just here but all the other places he's been killing. The scary thing is he didn't even care about hiding his identity in the videos. Almost like he was taunting the authorities to find him." Andy felt sick looking at everything in the room. To think of the women who had died there in the most brutal of ways made him want to tear Jon's face off.

"I guess his masks helped when he was out in public, but you would think that someone that saw the videos in the dark net would have turned him in. They can't all be sick like he is." Dennis said as he stared at the scrapbook. Andy looked at him and decided to ask him something that was weighing on his mind.

"Hayden's cousin Dorian is your informant, isn't he?" He asked Dennis.

"Why would you say that?" Dennis asked without confirming or denying.

"I saw how you looked at him and how he was on the computer. I'm sure he can run rings around us. I'm not going to say anything to rat him out; he's just an interesting fellow. I also don't get how his girlfriend would go with Jon when she's already seeing him." That fact baffled Andy and seeing the big guy holding her like everything was okay just didn't make sense.

"To be honest, I think they met after Jon took her. Every time I saw him, there was no mention of a girlfriend. I think he had something to do with her and the other woman's rescue. I can't confirm it, but I believe he knows more than he's sharing with us. That is if he's my informant because they've remained anonymous." Dennis shrugged his shoulders, and Andy shook his head.

Andy wasn't a fool. He just hoped Dorian and whoever else was working with him didn't take matters into their own hands. Jon deserved a long, painful death, but Andy still believed in the justice system.

On the other hand, if Jon happened to disappear and no one heard from him again, there wouldn't be anything they could do about it. Maybe it wasn't such a bad idea to let Dorian take care of things.

Jon rang the penthouse's buzzer in the high-end building's lobby. He waited with a smile, knowing someone would be looking at him.

"What do you want?" Asked a woman through the intercom.

"I work for the NYPD, and I would like to speak with you about your son, ma'am. Can I come up?" He asked into the speaker.

"My son? Is he okay?" She asked worriedly.

"I would really like to talk to you about it face to face," Jon stated, not wanting anyone else in the lobby to hear what he was saying.

"Alright, get on the elevator." Jon headed to the elevator and pressed the button for the penthouse. When the door opened, a man and woman were waiting for him.

"What has happened to our son?" Asked the man looking Jon up and down.

"Can we please sit down, Mr. Sumner?" Jon asked. The couple led him into a living room and sat on the couch while he took a chair across from them.

"Now tell us what has happened to Hayden," Elena said. They hadn't seen him since they had the falling out when he showed up with that woman. They didn't care that Shania had tried to get Natalia killed. They were only upset that this woman was the cause of losing their best friends.

"I think he may be in danger. Have you seen the news about the serial killer in the city?" Jon asked and saw the couple exchange a skeptical look.

"Yes, but he's killing women. Why would Hayden be in danger?" Peter asked, ready to tell this man to leave.

"The woman he's with, Natalia, is the killer's main target. We haven't released this information to the public yet, but he wants her. I'm concerned that Hayden may get caught in the middle." Jon was trying to instill fear in them so he could get their help.

"I knew that woman was nothing but bad news. She should be locked up with him as an accomplice because all these women being murdered are, in a way, her fault." Elena said with certainty. Maybe if they could prove she had something to do with the murders, they would arrest her. Then somehow, they could get Shania released, and they would have their friends back. Once Shania was out, Hayden would owe it to all of them to marry her so they could put this whole ugly mess behind them.

"That's why I'm worried about Hayden. I think he fell in love with Natalia but doesn't know all the baggage she brings with her. If they stay together, all it can do is lead to his demise. Do you think there's any way to get him away from her or get them to leave the hotel they're staying at so we can separate them? I'm open to suggestions." Jon said, looking at them with the most sincere look he could muster.

"Who are you exactly?" Peter asked suspiciously.

"I'm Detective Benny McGuire with the NYPD. I've been working on the case of the serial killer with the FBI." Jon said, flashing a fake badge at them. He knew that would likely be the only way to get them to believe what he was saying.

"If you're working the case, can't you just go to their hotel and talk to them? I don't understand why you need us exactly?" Peter said, still not connecting the dots as to why this detective had come to them for help.

"We offered Natalia witness protection, but she and Hayden refused. They want to stay in the hotel with all the security they have hired and police protecting them. I want to get them apart so we can try and force Natalia into witness protection. If we can do that, Hayden will be free of her. You know she has two broken legs and refused to hire anyone to take care of her, so Hayden is doing it all." Jon made it sound as though Natalia was to blame for everything. He could tell his parents despised her.

"What? Our son shouldn't be doing all that for her. She's forcing him to do things no man should ever do. Tell us what we can do, detective." Elena said. How could this bitch turn their son into her caregiver?

"Can you call him and claim that there is an emergency that he needs to come home for right away?" Jon asked, looking between them anxiously.

"I don't know if that will work. Now that he's with that woman, Hayden won't even acknowledge us. She has poisoned him against us." Elena said with certainty. They had tried several times to get him to come for dinner, but he never responded.

"Is there anyone else he's close to that he would leave her alone for? Even if it's only for a few minutes." Jon still wanted them both, but he was going to trick Hayden into coming to him after he had Natalia.

"There are only two people that I know he trusts. His assistant Will and a detective named Dennis. I'm sure you know them." Peter said, looking at Jon, still unsure about him.

"Yes, of course. Okay, I'm going to talk to them and see if they can help me. Please call me if you think of anything that could be beneficial." Jon handed them a card with the phone number of one of his burners. He then saw himself out and walked out of the building. He was still wearing the same mask from earlier.

Now it was time to find another young lady to take out his frustrations on. She would be the last one before he got his hands on Natalia and Krista, so he wanted to make it a good one. He needed to get prepared for the big finale.
