Chapter 56 - Another Disguise

Jon watched as Natalia and Hayden got onto the elevator. He was standing in the hallway wearing a suit and pretending to look at the directory that showed the offices on that floor. The detective and FBI agent had left first and paid him no attention. He could tell the mask he was currently wearing was one they didn't know about because they didn't even blink when they looked right at him.

He had been there to pick up something from Patrice like he often did. Jon hadn't expected them to uncover that she was his sister and was helping him. Patrice getting the job working for Natalia had been the best way to keep an eye on her. They were half-siblings with different fathers and different last names. Now that he no longer had an inside person, he would have to make a move sooner than later.

Jon took the next elevator down and saw Natalia being loaded into the transport van. He watched as they drove away. Maybe it was best things worked out how they did. No matter what the police do to Patrice, she doesn't know enough to tell them anything other than that she has shared information with him.

Jon walked in the opposite direction of the way the van had gone. He went to a market to buy a burner phone. He then called the man who made his masks. The guy thought he made movies and Jon would give him good exposure if one of his movies ever made it big.

"Hello," The man answered.

"Jerry, it's Jon. I have a special order request. If I send you some pictures, can you make me masks that match the pictures? I know this is more difficult, so I'll be willing to pay you double to have them done quickly." Jon smiled into the phone, knowing Jerry wouldn't be able to resist.

"Of course, I can. Send me the pictures right away, and I'll get the masks to you as soon as possible." Jerry couldn't believe his luck. He'd wanted to try something like this, and now he had the chance. To top it off, he would be making a killing on these.

"Thanks, Jerry. I knew I could count on you." Jon hung up the phone and continued down the street. Everyone thought they were smarter than he was, but he'd show them. He would be right in their faces, and they wouldn't even know it. Natalia and Hayden would leave with him as though they were friends.

______________

Dennis booked Laura after getting her statement. She admitted to everything. Once she was taken away, he met Andy. They were going to interrogate Patrice together. They were hoping to get information about Jon's plans. When they walked into the interrogation room, Patrice had her arms crossed with a smirk on her face.

"I don't know what you think you're going to get from me, but I'm not telling you anything." She said, crossing her legs.

"You were already read your Miranda rights, and now we have some questions. Did you know Jon was planning on killing Natalia and Hayden?" Dennis asked as they sat down across from her.

"I said I'm not telling you anything." She said defiantly.

"Okay, well then listen to us then. Four years ago, Natalia branched out on her own to start a business. She placed an ad for an assistant. You made your resume match exactly what she was looking for and applied. You ended up getting the job and made sure to get close to Natalia as more than just an employee. You were friends with her. When she had rough patches in the beginning, she paid you from the money her parents left her because she didn't want you working for nothing. She cared for you like you were family, but the whole time your intention was to be a spy for Jon. How am I doing so far?" Andy asked.

"You don't know shit," Patrice answered, but Dennis and Andy could tell they were getting to her. She refused to meet their eyes.

"Let me continue. You worked your way into her life to the point she depended on you for everything. You were the one person she trusted unconditionally with her personal information and her business affairs. All you did with that information was feed it to Jon so you two could figure out a way to get back at her. We want to know if you helped him kill all those women too. Did you help cut them up into little pieces?" Andy saw her eyes getting wider and wider.

"I never helped him kill anyone. It's Natalia's fault he's like that. He was in love with her, and she broke up with him for no reason. Don't let her fool you into thinking he was sleeping around with other women; she made that up. Jon told me she was the one with a bunch of other men, and they made him a laughingstock at the University. So why don't you arrest her for being an accomplice?" Patrice said, even though her confidence was fading.

"You think this is all because of some stupid bullshit from college? Your brother is sick. He's convinced himself that Natalia is to blame when it's just his sick mind. He kills women, innocent women, for the enjoyment of watching them die. We're done talking to you. You're just as worthless as he is." They got up to leave, and Patrice saw her chances of getting out of this begin to slip away.

"Wait, I don't know what he's planning, but I can tell you where he's staying. He's staying at my place until he can find something else. Now can you let me go? I haven't done anything wrong." Patrice pleaded.

"You're not going anywhere other than jail. You knowingly helped a killer plot the murders of Natalia and Hayden. Do you have anything else to say before we lock you up?" Dennis asked. That's when it finally hit her that she was in big trouble, and she started crying. They pulled her out of the room and handed her over to an officer to book her.

"Let's go check her apartment. However, I'm not pressing my luck that Jon will be there." Andy sighed as they headed toward the door. He would love to throw this fool behind bars before he had the chance to kill another woman.

When they got to Patrice's apartment, just like they thought, there was no one there. However, there was a message left for them written across her living room wall.

*See you soon, detective and agent.*

_______________

Hayden felt like he could finally relax once they arrived at the hotel. He didn't like having Natalia out with that monster still out there. Nevertheless, He knew she was hurt by what her staff did and wanted to confront them herself. He also got to see a bit of her business side and understood why she was so successful. She wasn't a pushover and didn't let her emotions sway her when it came to making decisions. Dorian and Krista were still on the laptop when they got inside.

"Did everything go okay?" Dorian asked them.

"Yep, I cleaned house and got rid of the three rats. Hopefully, Dennis and Andy will get something useful out of Patrice that can help them find Jon. Have you two had any luck?" Natalia asked as Hayden lifted her out of the chair and put her on the couch.

"We were going over the security cameras in your office and found they were extremely easy to hack into. So we looked for any evidence that someone else had hacked into them. We didn't find any signs of hackers, but we found something else." Krista said as Dorian went over to Hayden and Natalia to show them what they'd found.

"What is it?" Natalia asked with concern.

"Patrice had a visitor that came once a week. We played with the cameras so we could focus on him, and this is what we saw." Dorian showed them still images of a man's face. He then played the videos showing Patrice handing over an envelope each time the man visited her. Natalia was studying the man and thought he looked familiar. She knew it had to be Jon in a mask, but why did she feel like she'd seen him before. That's when it hit her.

"I know him." She whispered.

"What? How?" Hayden asked, looking at the picture of the man that made her face go white.

"It has to be Jon in a mask, but when we ordered lunch, sometimes we ordered from an Italian restaurant down the street. This man would deliver our food. I saw Patrice give him an envelope each time, but I assumed it was his tip for the delivery. Do you know what this means?" She asked them, feeling even more anger bubbling up inside her.

"What?" Hayden asked.

"Jon's been here longer than we thought. I know I've seen him at least over the past six months." She said, still looking at the videos. Everyone thought he had only come to the city after her relationship with Hayden was made public. Apparently, they were wrong.

"Uh, guys, look at this," Dorian said. He played the images of them leaving the office thirty minutes ago and paused on a man outside the elevator. Natalia gasped. It was the same man. Jon was right beside them, and they didn't even know it. Dorian continued playing, and they saw him get on the next elevator going down. Hayden felt rage to the point he was almost shaking. It was time for that son of a bitch to die.
