Chapter 89: Steven's Friend Comes for Dinner

Chapter 89 Steven's Friend Comes for Dinner

After work in the evening, James wanted to follow along.

Steven turned to him and said, "No need to follow. I'll drive myself these next few days."

He needed to give Olivia and Nora rides home from work.

Steven answered a phone call in the car.

It was Alton calling, his tone full of surprise. "Your wife's sister is named Olivia Adams?"

Last night, Steven had asked a private investigator to follow Willie. When Alton got back, he looked up the information and found out that Olivia's husband was Willie.

The very guy who was cheating!

Alton laughed on the spot.

Steven raised an eyebrow. "Why do I get the feeling you're pretty happy about this?"

"No, I'm not." Alton didn't want to be too obvious. He curved his thin lips. "I just can't figure out why that guy would cheat."

"Probably thinks the grass is always greener," Steven replied flatly.

"If she gets divorced, she'll need a lawyer, right?" Alton himself owned an international law firm, though he hadn't handled cases in years.

Steven felt something was off. "How do you know she's planning to divorce?"

"Why would she keep a guy like that around?" Alton said with certainty, playing with the pen in his hand, in a pretty good mood.

Steven nodded. "We'll reach out if needed. Anyway, I've got to go. I'm picking up Nora and Olivia from work."

Alton had been lounging lazily in his chair, but at these words, he perked up instantly. "Olivia will be there, too? Where are you all going for dinner?"

"Home to cook." Steven's expression was indifferent. "Olivia gets sick from restaurant food. She needs home cooking."

Alton thought for a moment. "Hey Steven, how about you treat me to dinner?"

"Why?"

"I haven't even met your wife yet." Alton smiled. "Tonight. Let me come eat at your place."

Steven felt like Alton was playing him somehow. He frowned slightly. "Hold on, I need to ask Nora first."

Alton was surprised.

With Steven's personality, he had to ask Nora?

How whipped was he? Was he really playing the married couple game for real?

Steven drove to Golden Tower. Nora was talking to Olivia. "Olivia, I just paid with my phone. You should have seen Bianca's face—it was twisted with anger."

"Where'd you get the money?" Olivia asked her.

"From Steven." Nora lowered her voice and whispered to Olivia, "It's his savings. He said I can manage all his money from now on."

Nora's face was flushed, clearly very happy.

"He's letting you manage the money." Olivia nodded and sighed. "He really is a good man."

Just as Olivia praised Steven, Steven arrived and overheard again.

Steven had a good impression of Olivia because she always said nice things about him, which was pleasant to hear.

Nora felt a bit embarrassed. Every time she said something good or bad, Steven would show up right on time. He was really talented at eavesdropping.

The two got in the car, with Nora in the passenger seat.

Steven asked her, "Nora, a friend of mine wants to come to our place for dinner tonight."

Nora paused, then nodded. "Sure."

She hadn't met Steven's friends yet!

She'd thought James was his friend before, but James turned out to be his assistant.

Nora suddenly remembered that strikingly handsome man and asked, "Is it that really good-looking guy we saw at the plaza that day?"

She'd seen that man with several bodyguards and had assumed he was Steven's boss.

"That really good-looking guy?" Steven repeated, his face darkening. "You think he's really good-looking?"

"He is really good-looking." Nora nodded. "Like a movie star. His face is so refined, prettier than a girl's."

Steven's face clouded over, and he stopped talking.

Nora kept asking, "Is he the one coming? Is he your friend? I thought he was your boss before, seeing him with all those bodyguards."

Steven's expression grew darker with each word.

Even Olivia couldn't watch anymore. She tugged at Nora. "Stop talking."

Nora looked back at Olivia.

Olivia glanced at Steven and gave her a look, telling her that Steven was jealous and that she should stop praising other men.

Nora didn't get it and looked confused.

Olivia sighed and said nothing more.

When they arrived at Riverside Apartment, Nora unbuckled her seatbelt and said to Steven, "Steven, you go upstairs first. Since your friend is coming, Olivia and I will go to the supermarket to buy some groceries."

At this, Steven's whole face radiated danger. Without a word, he went home.

Nora and Olivia went to the supermarket. Olivia had wanted to give her a heads-up, but Eleanor kept calling her.

Olivia glanced at the phone and hung up directly.

"Olivia, good for you!" Nora cheered for her.

Olivia smiled. "They deleted my fingerprint from the door. I wasn't planning to go back anyway."

"What did you say to Willie in the office today?" Nora asked Olivia while picking out vegetables.

Olivia explained what happened.

Nora nodded. "That's exactly right. Otherwise, you take that little allowance, and they say you're living off them. You should take your share of the profits and spend your own money with confidence."

"That's what I think too. Half the company is mine. I'm not divorcing now, but I want to split the shares with Willie, as shareholders do. He takes half, I take half. He can give his money to whoever he wants, but he needs to return my money to me. I want to keep it myself."

"Exactly." Nora supported Olivia.

But Olivia had other concerns. "Willie has raised a lot of money, though. He wants to expand the company now. He doesn't have much in assets, but he has a lot of debt. I don't know if he'll turn on me when I ask for money and make me take on half the debt too."

"The money is actually in inventory," Nora told Olivia. "We don't really understand this stuff. We can find a lawyer to appraise it, estimate the value of the inventory, and then we'll know."

"Okay." Olivia's only worry was the financial side.

Right now, Terry was managing the finances. If she and Willie fought, the finance department wouldn't release the money, and she still wouldn't be able to get it.

"Anyway, we'll deal with problems as they come," Nora advised Olivia. "Don't worry about so much in advance. Let's do what we need to do first, and if problems come up, we'll find people to solve them."

No point overthinking.

Olivia nodded. "It's just that this baby came at a bad time. The relationship is unstable, the company is in a growth phase, and suddenly there's a baby, and I'm stuck."

"All women go through this. Olivia, don't worry so much. Since you've reached this point and can't turn back, just keep moving forward." Nora's thinking was different from Olivia's.

Nora was the charge-ahead type, while Olivia was the cautious type. Together, they really complemented each other.
