Chapter 28 Nora Shows Off Her Husband
"That's awesome!" Nora beamed with genuine happiness.
James parked the car and was about to call out to Mr. York when he spotted Nora. His jaw dropped, and he froze.
Steven stayed calm, holding an umbrella for Nora as she got into the car.
Once inside, Nora noticed James and thought he looked familiar. She rested her chin on her hand and said, "You look kind of familiar. Have we met before?"
James glanced nervously at Steven.
Steven, ever composed, said, "He's my friend, James."
James stayed silent, doubting he deserved to be called Steven's friend. Did he really measure up?
Watching James drive skillfully, Nora assumed Steven had lent him the car. She leaned over and whispered, "Steven, have you ever heard that saying?"
"What saying?" Steven asked, his eyes on the rain outside.
Nora whispered, "You shouldn't lend your car or your wife."
"What?" Steven seemed confused.
Nora clarified, "Even the best of friends shouldn’t borrow your car. If something happens, you'll be the one responsible."
But this car was really comfortable, very stable, not shaky at all.
Steven chuckled and replied, "Got it. I won't lend him the car again."
He probably shouldn't call James anymore; better to drive himself to work to avoid awkward explanations if Nora saw them together.
The car soon arrived at Golden Tower, and Nora got out with her umbrella.
The Audi continued to York Development Group.
A row of security guards stood in front of York Development Group.
From a distance, an Audi approached and smoothly stopped at the entrance!
This wasn't the usual type of car for this place!
The security guards were about to shoo it away when Steven stepped out.
The guards' eyes widened. What was going on?
Why was Steven arriving in an Audi today?
They'd heard he was about to become the CEO of the group, making him the most important man at York Development Group!
The guards quickly bowed, "Mr. York!"
Steven nodded slightly, carrying a lunchbox as he entered the CEO's private elevator, heading straight to the 101st floor.
Steven's first assistant, Clarence, was already back, waiting in the office to report.
Steven walked in and casually handed the lunchbox to James.
James looked puzzled and asked, "Mr. York, is this lunch for me?"
Touched, James added, "I haven't eaten breakfast yet."
Steven's face darkened, "You wish. Put it away and heat it for me at noon."
His wife's hard work couldn't possibly be for someone else to eat.
"Mr. York brought lunch?" Clarence teased.
He and James were like brothers, having been saved by Steven from an underground boxing ring years ago. Since then, they had been loyal to him.
"Yeah, probably made by Mrs. York," James replied, initially thinking Steven was giving him the lunch.
"Mrs. York?"
James said, "Nora."
Clarence was puzzled, "Wasn't Mr. York planning to divorce her?"
James glanced at Steven, who remained expressionless, and said, "Not anymore. Mr. York goes home every day now."
He used to only go home when drunk, but recently, Steven had changed, buying robot vacuums and modifying cars, showing no signs of wanting a divorce!
Nora spent the day on the phone.
In the morning, she spent a little money to post an ad online about having stock of the 1210 model. To get orders, you had to advertise; otherwise, no one would know what you had.
So, Nora spent the whole day answering calls, quoting $160 per unit, the price Steven had told her.
Nora didn't know why, but she trusted him completely.
But that price didn't sell. Many people stopped at $150 and wouldn't go higher.
Bianca saw her on the phone all day and mocked, "What? Trying to hoard goods like everyone else?"
Bianca didn't know that the two boxes Nora had were the 1210 model, sipping her coffee and mocking her.
Nora couldn't be bothered with her, patiently continuing to take calls. Amelia whispered to her, "Nora, I have 60 units. If you're selling, help me sell mine too."
"Sure!" Nora agreed.
Around three in the afternoon, someone finally agreed to the $160 price and asked, "How many units do you have?"
Nora replied, "860 units."
"Monthly settlement?" Monthly settlement meant taking the goods and paying at the end of the month.
Nora refused, "No, only cash."
All her money was tied up in this; she didn't want a monthly settlement, only cash.
Some big companies didn't like cash, like Apex Technologies Corporation, which did monthly settlements, shipping goods daily but settling payments at the end of the month.
The caller hung up.
Nora felt a bit disappointed. After a whole day of calls, someone finally wanted to buy, but because she insisted on cash, they didn't.
Feeling a bit regretful, she sent a message to Steven on Facebook.
She always had Facebook open on her computer, making it easy to contact people.
Nora: [Quoted all day, not a single deal, so frustrating!]
Steven glanced at it during a meeting and didn't respond.
Nora continued: [Almost had a deal just now, but it fell through. My heart is bleeding.]
She added a crying emoji.
Nora: [So tired, so sleepy, really want a cup of coffee.]
She was just venting.
But Steven replied: [Send me your address.]
Nora: [What?]
Steven: [Didn't you want coffee? I'll have someone deliver it.]
Nora: [I was just venting.]
Steven: [Stop talking nonsense.]
Nora went silent.
Her husband didn't know how to be considerate at all?
Telling her to stop talking nonsense? She was just venting because she was in a bad mood!
So, she sent her address.
If he didn't know how to comfort his wife, let him buy coffee and spend some money to feel the pinch!
At four o'clock, the coffee arrived.
Nora went to the door to get it, feeling a bit dazed.
She thought Steven was just saying it, but he really did it!
Holding the coffee in her hands, Nora's lips curled into a smile, and all her bad mood vanished.
Nora sat back in her chair and told Amelia, "My husband ordered this for me."
Amelia sighed, "What's so great about a cup of coffee?"
"He treats me well, and that makes me happy." Nora was easily satisfied.
Amelia laughed, "Marrying you is the best deal. A cup of coffee makes you so happy."
Exactly, she was over the moon!
Nora happily sipped the smooth coffee and sent Steven a message: [Got the coffee, it's delicious.]
Steven's meeting had just ended, and he looked at his phone, not leaving the conference room immediately.
Clarence reminded him, "Mr. York, we have another meeting in Conference Room 2 in five minutes."
"Got it," Steven responded, replying to Nora.
