Chapter 29 Nora Gets Troubled
Steven: [Be more patient.]
Nora's eyes widened.
Was Steven telling her not to be impatient and to take her work seriously?
Nora felt inexplicably sweet inside. She smiled and replied: [Got it, I'll do my work properly.]
Steven smiled faintly: [The lunch box was delicious.]
Nora was even happier when she saw this. Sweet ripples spread through her heart. She held her coffee, and even though it wasn't sweet, she could taste sweetness in it... An hour later, Nora received a phone call.
It was from the person who had come to inquire about prices at three o'clock. "We can pay cash. 860 trays of goods, bring them over now."
Nora's eyes suddenly lit up, and she almost knocked over her coffee!
It worked?
She calculated the price - selling at 160 dollars per tray, she'd make 30,000 dollars just like that!
This was only after one day - making money was this easy?
Nora was grinning from ear to ear. "Great! What's your company? I'll arrange delivery right away."
"Aurora Tech," the other side answered.
The smile on Nora's lips froze. Aurora Tech again?
She had a bad feeling about this.
But the goods had finally sold, and at 160 dollars per tray, cash on delivery - collect the money and leave.
Nora felt the temptation was too great!
She turned to ask Amelia, "Amelia, when you delivered to Aurora Tech yesterday, did they give you a hard time?"
Last time Cindy had made her wait so long, Nora could tell Cindy was deliberately making things difficult for her.
"No," Amelia shook her head. "When I delivered yesterday, they signed for it right away. The receptionist even chatted with me for a bit."
Hearing Amelia say this, Nora felt it should be fine and got up to go.
It was pouring rain outside.
Nora found many plastic bags and wrapped them around the packed cardboard boxes, then found a cart and loaded the two rather heavy boxes onto it.
Then she opened a large umbrella and stepped into the downpour in her high heels.
The rain was full of colorful umbrellas. In the business district, even in heavy rain, it was bustling.
Everyone in this young city was rushing about.
Everyone was racing against time, afraid that if they slowed down, they wouldn't make money.
Nora actually liked this atmosphere - it made people anxious, but also made them want to fight and strive!
The rain was too heavy. Nora walked for a long time.
She protected the goods, exposing her back to the rain.
By the time she reached the building next door, she was soaked through. She struggled to lift the cart the steps and pulled it into the building, where a long line of people was waiting for the elevator.
Nora, dripping wet, stood in line with her cart.
By the looks of it, she'd have to wait at least half an hour.
Nora checked the time - it was almost six o'clock, nearly closing time. Five-thirty to six-thirty was peak elevator time.
People kept cutting in line and rushing in, making Nora more and more irritated!
Why were there always people like this?
Nora texted Steven to complain: [I'm waiting in line at Harman Tower, and people keep cutting in line. Don't you think these people have no manners?]
Nora took a photo and sent it to Steven.
Steven looked up at his watch - it was already six o'clock. Why wasn't she off work yet?
Steven: [Still not off work?]
Nora: [I'll be done after delivering these goods. The 160 dollar price worked out - made exactly 30,000 dollars!]
She'd actually made 32,000 dollars, but two thousand went to advertising, so that had to be deducted!
Still, Nora was very satisfied.
Steven: [It's still raining outside. Want me to pick you up?]
Nora: [Sure!]
After waiting over half an hour, she could finally get in the elevator. Nora put away her phone and squeezed in with the cart.
People kept pushing in. Nora was quite annoyed. With the rain, everyone was holding umbrellas, all dripping wet.
She endured until the 45th floor, where she could finally get out, pulling the cart toward Aurora Tech.
It was 6:09 PM now. Almost all the companies had closed, and waves of people were heading toward the elevators.
Nora, dripping wet and bedraggled, arrived at Aurora Tech's entrance.
There were hardly any people left in the office.
Cindy received her again.
Vivian sat in her office drinking coffee. When Nora entered, she saw her leisurely gazing at the rain outside in a daze.
"Why are you so slow?" Cindy frowned and complained. "We're about to close!"
"Sorry, it's pouring outside, and there were too many people waiting for the elevator downstairs. It delayed me a bit." For the money, Nora put up with her arrogance.
Cindy said, "1210s, 860 trays, right?"
"Right."
"Count them." Cindy handed her a box cutter, with no intention of helping, just making Nora count for her to watch.
Nora asked, "Aren't you going to count?"
"You count." Cindy crossed her arms. "I'll watch."
Vivian's office door wasn't closed.
She could hear the conversation outside.
She curved her lips slightly and sipped her coffee in a good mood.
This was her clever approach - never doing it herself, letting others take the heat.
Nora felt a bit annoyed, but for those 30,000 dollars, she closed her eyes, put on a smile, and said, "Okay."
One standing, one squatting, they began counting the 1210s in the boxes.
After counting for half an hour, the phone rang. It was Steven calling - he must have arrived.
Nora answered and said, "Wait for me downstairs. I'm counting the goods. I'll come down when I'm done."
"Okay." Steven agreed and sat in the car waiting for her.
Nora's feet were a bit sore. She pounded them with her hand and continued counting.
Ten minutes later, all 860 trays of 1210s were counted.
Nora's legs had gone numb from squatting in high heels. She stood up and smiled as she handed the form to Cindy. "All done, Cindy. 860 trays, all there."
"Okay." Cindy snorted through her nose, took the form, signed her name, tore off a copy, and returned it to her. "You can go now."
Nora was stunned. What was going on?
Where was the money?
She looked at Cindy with a smile, her clear eyes sincere. "Cindy, this order is cash on delivery."
"No, it's not." Cindy looked completely calm. "It's on account."
On account meant monthly billing.
The smile on Nora's lips stiffened slightly. She said in a low voice, "Cindy, I communicated with your company by phone before. We agreed it would be cash."
"At first we said cash, but later our Ms. Bennett personally called to ask, and your company's supervisor Mr. Reed said it could be on account, charged to Apex Technologies Corporation's account."
The supervisor Mr. Reed was Bianca.
Nora was about to explode.
Bianca had some nerve. These were Nora's goods, and she took it upon herself to say they'd be charged to Apex Technologies Corporation's account.
These goods didn't belong to Apex Technologies Corporation!
Nora's expression turned cold. She controlled herself and said calmly to Cindy, "Cindy, this batch of goods belongs to me personally, not to Apex Technologies Corporation. I personally only accept cash. Please tell your Ms. Bennett."
