Codename: Aconite Chapter Forty-Three
As I help Silas put the groceries in the trunk of my car, a sudden look of realisation comes over his face.
“Everything alright?” I ask.
“Yeah. I just realised I’ve never done something so domestic before,” he says in mild astonishment.
I chuckle. “You’ve never gone grocery shopping? Don’t tell me you’re a criminal who still needs mummy to take care of him,” I taunt.
“Keep that up and I’ll find better uses for that mouth of yours,” he warns, squeezing my ass firmly.
I take hold of his shirt and yank him towards me, looking into his emerald eyes as I lean in until my lips are a breath away from his. “You can fuck my mouth till it’s swollen shut, but that won’t stop me from teasing you.” My voice is a sultry whisper as I tease the seam of his lips with my tongue.
He takes a firm grip of my hips and presses me against the trunk of my car, his lips descending on mine and his tongue invading my mouth, licking and teasing every crevice as if to give me a sample of things to come. I sit on the open trunk of my car, wrapping my legs around him, reaching around and squeezing his ass hard, feeling my acrylic nails digging into his flesh as I bite and suck on his tongue. He groans into my mouth, claiming a fistful of my hair and yanking my head back harshly as he kisses me with so much fire and lust I can feel it burning in my throat.
Our kiss is a scolding fight for dominance as his free hand travels up my thigh, kneading my muscles hungrily, aggressively, pressing his firming cock against my pussy, but the barrier of our clothing leaves the contact feeling unfulfilling. I’m three seconds away from getting on my knees for him and letting him make his threat a reality when my hormone-driven high is interrupted.
There is a loud gasp, causing me to glance to my left as an older woman stares at Silas and me in disgust.
“Putána!” she spits. Literally spits, then storms off.
Silas turns his head in the direction of the insult, his lips still on mine. “What happened?”
“I believe she just called me a whore,” I chuckle, “Or both of us,” I shrug nonchalantly.
Silas chuckles and pecks my lips, “Maybe we should finish this at your place.”
I roll my eyes in annoyance. “Stupid hag,” I mutter, standing up straight and closing the trunk of my car.
“You know an audience wouldn’t stop me from taking you wherever and whenever I please.” He smirks while his eyes undress me.
“Then why say we should finish this back at my place?” I question, opening the driver’s side door as he walks around to the passenger side.
“Because I don’t think either of us getting arrested right now would be beneficial,” he points out as he gets in the car.
I make a disgruntled face before getting in and shutting the door. “You never did answer my question,” I remind him as I start driving back to my apartment.
“What question?” He squirms slightly, adjusting his dick in his pants much to my amusement.
“Was this your first time grocery shopping?”
“No. It was just my first time shopping with a woman I’m sleeping with. It felt very domestic. Like something couples do.”
I quirk my eyebrow, “Is that what we are? A couple?”
“What would you call us? After our talk the other day I thought we were now on the same page.”
I focus on the traffic ahead, reflecting on that rollercoaster of a day. One minute I’m kicking a man I’ve known all my life out of said life, the next I’m making passionate love to the man who tried to kill me. There’s not a single thing I said or did that day that I regret, of course. There is an ungodly bond between Silas and me – something dark, seductive, and at times tempestuous. Our connection was forged in the bowels of hell, and our emotions burn with those flames every day. It’s in the way we fight, the way we fuck, and the way we kill.
I was never a fan of Shakespeare. Never seen a man so revered for taking forever to make a point, but right now I can’t help reflecting on one line from Romeo and Juliet: ‘These violent delights have violent ends, and in their triumph die, like fire and powder, which as they kiss consume’. That line could have been written for us. But we’re not star-crossed lovers, and I would never die for a man, and I would never want a man who would die for me.
Death is such a cop-out. To choose death is to choose the easy way out, and in the short time I’ve known Silas, I know it’s not in his nature. He’s the kind of man who would kill for me, and that speaks greater volumes than a man who would fall on a grenade for you. A man who would breed his own demons and stare them in the mirror every day. A man who would stain his hands in blood he’ll never be able to be clean off. This is the kind of man I crave. The kind of man who would not only give you his soul but tear it to pieces and offer you the broken shards to safeguard. That is who Silas is. That is the man I have claimed. I guess I just never thought of putting a label on it.
“The silence is killing me,” Silas breathes out, drawing my attention back to him.
“Hmm, death by silence. Never tried that one before,” I say thoughtfully.
“You still haven’t answered my question,” he says bluntly, keeping us on topic.
I sigh and twist my hands around the steering wheel. “It’s not that easy to answer. I…I’ve never…done the relationship thing. I’ve done the hook-up thing, the friends-with-benefits thing.”
“And look how well that turned out,” he murmurs sarcastically.
I glance at him pointedly but choose to ignore his comment. I can’t exactly say he’s wrong. My arrangement with Castor severely bit me in the ass, no doubt about that.
“My point is, I’ve never dated anyone or been in any kind of arrangement that required labels. I’ve always preferred it that way.”
“So, let’s see if I am following you on this. You don’t have an issue with telling me how you feel about me or hearing how I feel about you, but putting labels on it freaks you out,” he says contemplatively.
“I didn’t say I was freaked out,” I say defensively.
“You seem freaked out. Weapons, violence, and impending death you’re fine with, but romantic titles scare you,” he teases.
“Are you going somewhere with this?” I snap indignantly.
“I’ve just never once seen this side of you before, and over something so mundane,” he sniggers.
I pull into my parking garage, the tyres screeching as I bring the car to a stop. I pull the keys out of the ignition and turn to glare at the smug smile on his face. Handsome or not, I’ve got nothing against punching it. I’ve done it before.
“Are you done?” I ask icily.
“One of the deadliest assassins in the world’s greatest weakness is intimacy,” he continues to taunt me, leaning in and pinching my chin while my nostrils flare like an enraged bull. “If you crumble so easily at a title, what will happen when I tell you ‘I love you’,” he breathes against my lips, a dark, mischievous smirk tugging at his lips.
My jaw goes slack, and I feel my lungs stop working as I stare at him incredulously. “What?” I quietly squeak.
He pulls back, his smirk now plastered proudly on his face, “Good thing that day isn’t today.”
My shock-ridden face morphs into an impassive mask and as he lets out a chortle, my fist strikes out, slamming into his gut with brute force. He clutches his stomach, hunching forward slightly, a whoosh of air escaping him only to be followed by more laughing. I get out of the car, slamming the door behind me. I open the trunk and grab as many grocery bags as I can, all while strings of Greek curses I wouldn’t even dream of saying in front of my parents, fly out of my mouth at the speed of nuclear missiles.
Amid my cursing, Silas gets out and helps me retrieve the grocery bags from the trunk.
“You’re sexy when you’re angry,” he coos, lightly kissing my temple.
“You haven’t even begun to see me angry,” I snarl, slamming the trunk shut and storming ahead to my apartment.
Silas catches up effortlessly, each step a confident stride. If he were a peacock this would be the moment he unfurled his features and made a spectacle of himself. I’ve never met a man so infuriatingly capable of pissing me off with such ease. I can tell he enjoys it too. It’s like riling me up has become his new favourite hobby, a hobby that is likely to get him killed by me if he keeps it up. Who the fuck casually throws out the L word like that? He’s lucky I didn’t rip his balls off and throw them out the window.
“You look like smoke should be coming out of your nose with all the snarling you’re doing,” he continues to tease.
I ignore him as I unlock my apartment and step in, placing my keys in the bowl by the door. The moment I lift my head I freeze in my tracks, Silas quickly turning to stone at my side. I take a tentative step forward, slowly placing the grocery bags on the ground, a new type of rage brewing inside me as I look at the ransacked state of my apartment.
