CHAPTER FOURTEEN
When Pat woke up later in the evening. She thought to herself that she was dreaming and had not seen Sammy. She said to herself that she has wakened to her reality now but it actually was not as she thought. It true she saw him the other time because right now he was sitting beside her on the bed. She gently touched his face to have a feel of him. She moved her hand darting it back and forth. Sammy held her hand to his face.
“Sammy, is it truly you?” She said.
Sammy nodded slightly. She could not put how much she missed him in words. Sammy’s face weas handsome as always even when he looked a bit frail. She wondered what happened to him. But she could not take her eyes off him. And she almost forget she shouldn’t be doing that as their relationship is just the baby in her womb. She could not say or think of where she stands in his life because, Sammy did not define the relationship between them. But she wants to stay like this for a long time. Looking into his beautiful eyes without a blink.
“Why do you keep staring at me? What going on in your mind?” Sammy asked.
“You’re handsome.” She said.
She was just being honest. She missed him so much. He looked like a delicious meal she wanted to have badly.
“Won’t you ask about what happened? Are you still mad at me?” Sammy asked and his face slowly turned pale.
“I want to ask but I just want to continue looking in your eyes. I missed you.” She rested her head on his chest.
“I missed you as well.” Sammy also said caressing her hair.
She could not believe that came from Sammy. He said he missed her. Did he realize his feelings for her while he was away from her? But that does not matter right now. She wanted to know what happened on the concert night and how Sanjana and Nana Kwame found him.
That night when he started knocking on her door. Sammy turned around to find a lady standing behind him. He demanded how she got into the house but the lady was laughing mischievously. Before he could say any other thing the lady hit him with an object on his head and he blacked out. He told Sanjana and Nana Kwame that was all he could remember. Sanjana asked how the lady came into the house and where was the gateman. Sammy said when he regained consciousness, he found himself masked and tied down. But the woman talked to him angrily. She was angry because he married Patricia instead of her. Immediately Sanjana asked who the person could be. The only person that came to his mind was none other than Lisa.
Because she was the only person who would be so angry he chose Patricia. He told Sanjana and Nana Kwame why he left Lisa. Patricia did not know this part of the story yet. He had caught her with his best friend, Fred in her bedroom. She was cheating on him with his best friend. He also overhead her saying she was only with Sammy because of his money and he would help her get more connections which will help her modeling career. Sammy was disheartened and that led to the passion night between them. Nana Kwame got angry when he heard about that.
“So, you used my sister to forget about your ex?” He said angrily. “My sister truly loves you. You need to see what has become of her because you’re not with her.”
“Believe me, I truly love your sister. I never knew until I was betrayed by the person I blindly gave my heart to. And I also know that Patricia loves me too. I was determined to make things right between us that night when things went wrong. Please help me get to your sister. I would like to prove to her that I love her. She thought I was with her because of the baby. She does not know that my feelings are true.” He pleaded.
After that day, they started looking for Lisa, Audu and Amanda. The three of them fled from the city after everything.
Lisa was caught in a hotel in Ibadan after being declared wanted. She made the search for the other two easier. Sanjana, Nana Kwame and Barrister Fasasi facilitated their arrest. The police handled them to get them to confess. Lisa confessed she conspired with Audu and Amanda to gain unhindered access into the house. She threatened them not to speak after the incident and also paid them some money too. She wanted Sammy for her selfish interest but he left her for Patricia. So she decided to take her revenge by separating them. On the night of the concert, she mixed in some drugs in Sammy’s drink so he would be tipsy. He sent the lady in pink hair to seduce him and also sent someone to call Patricia into the room so she would think he was cheating on her.
It was her fault that Audu and Amanda were not at the house that night. She told them to leave. So she (Lisa) would be able to go into the house unannounced to mock them both. Although she went into the house later that night to complete her mission, but Sammy wasn’t there. There were blood stains on the floor which suggested something ghastly had happened so she fled the scene instantly. Her statement implied that she knew nothing about the kidnap. It had happened before she arrived the scene.
The kidnapper still remains unknown. No one knew who it was. The only pointer to who it could be is from the revelation of Sammy himself. He said he turned around to see an unidentified lady. She hit him with a club and that was all he could remember before h was masked into the car. They do not know how to find her neither. Sanjana asked Sammy to announce that he was alive on the television station, radio stations and newspapers and also to declare Patricia truly innocent of the false accusations. Or perhaps, he made a new song about what has happened in the past week. Sammy thought about it too but if he made that song, it would surely attract media attention. If that happens, the person would be aware and would be on the run. But he later did has she suggested. He made the song in two days and also granted interviews. He talked about his kidnapping and the misery surrounding everything that has happened to his wife in his absence. He walked on the street feely. But had undercover police follow him in disguise for protection and suspicions.
Things did work out though. They caught the culprit, a slender young lady. She was a crazy, ardent fan of Sammy. They caught her on one of her stalking mission on him. She confessed to the crime and explained how she got into the house. She had been following the drunk Sammy from the concert venue till home. Even before that day, she’s been stalking her longtime crush , Sammy. She follows him secretly to everywhere he goes. There was no one at the gate when she got into the house that night. She took the opportunity to get into the house. She found Sammy still tipsy pleading Patricia to open the door. So, she hit his head with a flower vase to make him unconscious.
That was how she took him out of the house. She was the one who also called the police anonymously to report the “murder” of Sammy at his place. When she was asked what made her do such, she said she thought Sammy had interest in her the first day they met. She got angry after Sammy publicly introduced Patricia as his wife with a baby bump. She vowed no one would have Sammy other than herself. But the corpse she thought she buried had been exposed. She would be prosecuted and sent to jail in accordance with the law of the land.
“Sammy, I went through a lot when you were away.” Pat said amidst tears rolling down her face.
“I know, now I’m here. I promise I won’t ever leave you again.” Sammy pulled her into his embrace.
“I’m sorry to interrupt. But I think Akwete needs to go home now. Maame would have been looking for her by now. I bet she didn’t tell anyone before leaving the house.” Nana Kwame interrupts them.
“That’s true. I need to go now.” She said as she rushed down the bed forgetting her condition.
“Won’t you introduce me to your family?” Sammy cautions.
“Sammy, what will I say to Maame Serwa? You know our relationship Isn’t…”
“I’m your husband. You should be proud of that.” Sammy cuts in before she can finish her statement. “And don’t ever say this is not real. Ever since I knew about this baby, I have set things straight. I have legalized the marriage certificate.” He added.
The truth is in front of her. She shouldn’t be fooled by Sammy’s word. He officiate the marriage because of the baby. Since he wants it badly he would go to any extent to have it. He does not love her but would tolerate her to have the baby. He once said he wants a good life for his baby and would do anything so it Won’t lack anything. Patricia told herself not to fall for his words again.
“You want the baby not me. You don’t have to meet my family.” Patricia pointed out helplessly and curled her lips.
She paced the room and almost tripped because she stubbed her toe on the edge of the carved concrete in the middle of the room. Sammy held her shoulders.
“May I be excused? I think I shouldn’t be here.” Nana Kwame said as he leaves the room.
“Patricia, please be calm. Sit here, you’re making me feel dizzy.” Sammy said.
He made her sit on the chair which was by the bed side. She leans her arm on the lamp which was also on the small cupboard beside the chair.
“There are some things you need to know. I did not want you only because of the baby. I fell in love with you before it came. I just did not know how to express my feelings. I would have summoned the courage on the concert night but things went wrong because of the misunderstandings.”
“I’m scared. I don’t know what to think right now.” Pat mentioned.
“Please trust me. I truly love you, I want you.”
Patricia is still sitting on the chair confused. Looking directly into his eyes as if they were blinking to communicate please trust me. She wrapped her arms around her own body.
