CHAPTER FIFTEEN

When they got to the house, it was already dark. Maame Serwa and Harley were stressed out. They had searched everywhere for Pat. As soon as they alighted the car, they walk towards them. Harley retreat because Sanjana was with them but Nana Kwame pulled her into his arms.

“Won’t you welcome your husband?” He said brushing her ear with his lips.

“Why did you take your sister out without informing anyone? Do you know how much we’ve looked for her? By the way, when did you arrive?” Maame Serwa scolded Nana Kwame.

“In the afternoon.” He responded looking into his surprised wife eyes.

“So, where have you been with your sister?” Maame Serwa asked curiously.

“To give her a surprise package.” He pointed Sammy.

“Who is he?” Maame Serwa raised an inquisitive eyebrows.

“My husband.” Pat responded holding Sammy’s hand tightly as if that was an assurance that he belongs to her. Or as if she let go off the hand, she might lose him again. “His name his Sammy…Sammy Davies. He is a musician. His studio name is: Sammydee.” She added with all sense of confidence looking into his eyes lovingly like a mother who is proud of her child.

She had always wanted to do this. She suddenly became a talkative. She has being quiet ever since she came back to Ghana. Patricia smiled foolishly. There is some excitement down her stomach. Now there is no reason for her to avoid Maame Serwa’s questions. She can bring them on. Sammy has also cleared her doubt. He has assured her that he loves her and want her.

“I think I heard that name somewhere before.” Harley implied beating her head to remember where or when.

Before she could say another word, Nana Kwame held her hand and took her to secluded place.

“We need to talk.” He said as soon as they got behind the house.

“What now?” Harley retrieved her hand angrily “Let’s talk about us. You will talk to Sammy later.” He said calmly and drew her closer by pulling her waist towards him. “I love you Harley and Sanjana is just a friend.”

“Why talk about her now? She came to the house with you tonight. Why are you together? Did you go to Lagos with her?”

“Yes, she was with me in Lagos but we went there to…”

“Just shut up! I don’t want to hear any other word from you.” She cuts him short and walks out.

Harley went into the sitting room to join the family pretending nothing has happened when she was almost brought to tears in minutes ago. She sat beside Maame Serwa who was having a serious conversation with Sammy.

“Thank you so much, Sanjana. If not for you, my granddaughter and her husband Won’t be able to be here today. I’m really grateful for your help and would do anything to return the favor.” Maame Serwa said.

“What happened, mother?” Harley said sitting on the arm of the chair.

“Sanjana went to Lagos with our Kwame to help Akwete and her husband solved the trouble they’re facing. Akwete was accused of murdering her husband while her husband was actually kidnapped. The mastermind made sure it looked like a murder case so no one would suspect.” Maame Serwa explained.

Harley rushed out of the house which left everyone surprised. She bumped into Nana Kwame at the front of the house. “I’m sorry.” She said trying to catch her breath from the pacing. “I should have listened to you. I allowed jealousy to get the best of me. Please forgive me”

“It’s okay. I’m thankful you found out the truth.” He said smiling.

He pulled her into his embrace and brushed her hair with his hand. Maame Serwa came out with others. They were scared something happened to her. Immediately they stepped out, they found the Romeo and Juliet playing love. They all burst out in laughter. Harley held Sanjana’s hand and apologize. She felt bad for saying mean words to her when she first came to Ghana.

Pat had thought she would give birth to her baby when they finally got to Lagos in few days, but the baby came too soon because her water broke unexpectedly. She and Sammy just made love when it all happened. It would sound stupid if she had to tell people they made love with her heavy bump. Sammy was a bit scared when Patricia’s face crinkles. Her stomach tightened and there was pain down her back. Sammy asked about the nursery bag. He made her change into a new dress. He called Nana Kwame for help because Patricia could not stand on her feet. Patricia tried to be strong by biting her lips instead of crying out. The pain had escalated. The hospital was a bit crowded when they got there, but Sammy beat through the crowd so the doctor could attend to Patricia. She was proud of the man whom she married. The baby was delivered by the midwife, Sammy was in the maternity room with her. He held her hand through the whole thing, urging her to calm down. The baby came after thirty minutes, which gladdened the woman who delivered the baby. It was a baby girl. The choice Sammy had also prayed for.
