Chapter 98: Personal Part 2
Chapter 98: Personal Part 2
Cameron’s P.O.V:
My father and I were the first to arrive at the gate, along with Sarah.
Usually, Alex was always with us; but ever since this morning, I had woken up to find that I could no longer sense him through the pack bonds and neither could anyone else. And since Mirage wasn’t fully mated to Alex, no one could sense her either.
I had never known just how important he was to me until that moment when the panic had set in as my mind searched for the connection with his. We needed to find him soon, for none of us knew what he might be going through.
The only way to track him now was the tracker on his hand that had been put there to keep track of his wolf’s behavior, but now it just might end us leading us to him and Mirage…if only we could get to that damn laptop.
Daisy was taking care of Julian and the only other person who had access to his tracker was my father, and we were now at the gates to our pack, waiting for the vampire High Lord to arrive, who had volunteered to help us defeat Alistair.
I didn’t know why one vampire would suddenly offer to dispose off another, but I was guessing this was personal. This guy just might have a bone to pick with Alistair and he was using this case as an opportunity to get rid of him. I wasn’t complaining however, since the scenario was going in our favor.
Two black SUV’s showed up at that moment and the guards at our gate opened them wide to let the cars through. We were already standing at the shade of the packhouse and when the cars parked, they did so right at the edge of the packhouse. It wasn’t a mystery that vamps hated the sunlight. They were extremely sensitive to the light and it burned their skin.
So it wasn’t a surprise when someone exited the car wearing what looked like a hooded cape, made of a fully opaque black material.
Father motioned with his hands for him to enter the building and he did so immediately and the four of us moved further inside to the shadows where there was no natural sunlight.
The man who had entered with us, lifted up his hood, but didn’t remove it fully. He placed it at the top of his head so that his face was visible and I completely understood why he did it. His eyes, just like all vamps, were a bright red and he had their tell-tale pale skin. His hair, from what was visible, appeared to be brunette…or a dark brown.
“My Queen informed me of the Council needing urgent help.” The man’s voice was deep, husky with a hint of authority. “I came as soon as I was able. My name is Lazarus Voltrov and I’m from a coven in Alaska.”
“We were told that you knew Alistair personally?” I asked him, deciding to be direct. “We want to know if he’s a friend or a foe.”
“Alistair is a maggot that keeps spoiling our name like there’s no tomorrow,” Lazarus sighed, folding his arms across his chest. “Did he do something I must be aware of?”
“Yes.” Father told him. “He poisoned a child and took away one of our wolf’s mates, the very woman who had asked help from the Council. He also has her mate with him and we cannot reach either of them.”
“So you’re saying, he took Mirage Valecha and his mate?” Lazarus frowned.
“Yes.” I answered him. “Is that going to be a problem for you? Because we plan to retaliate.”
“Problem?” The corners of his lips tilted up ever so slightly. “I’m afraid not. This makes it personal.”
I was ready to fight in case he told us he wasn’t going to side with us anymore…but what he said instead…had me more than a little stupefied. “What?”
“You see…Alistair abducting Mirage Valecha may not be directly related to me…but it is…to my mate.”
Lazarus turned to face the entrance and we followed his gaze to watch the backseat door to his car open and a booted foot land onto the concrete floor.
The car door then slammed shut and the first thing that I noticed, was the crossbow and the sword in her hand. But by the time my eyes landed on the woman’s face…all doubt fled my mind and everything became increasingly clear.
Yes…this was very personal indeed.
