Chapter 97: Personal Part 1
Chapter 97: Personal Part 1
Freya’s P.O.V
Everyone from Alpha Charles’s office made their way to Julian’s room immediately. All except for Daisy, who went straight to her lab to grab the vial containing the cure and bring it to Julian’s room.
Cameron held onto my hand tightly, in case I fell over again, but I wasn’t going to. I was a lot more stable now and I had to see if the cure really worked. God, I hoped it did.
Julian hadn't been conscious for the last four days and with each day that passed, I could see him slowly fade away. I was trying my best to stay strong; for him, for Cameron…but I couldn’t do it for much longer. He was the only one I had left…my only family. If something happened to Julian…no! I couldn’t even think about it!
He was only ten! He hadn't even lived his life yet! How could someone be so heartless as to do this to a child?
Mirage was right! Alistair was a sick, twisted bastard who just wanted to get what he wanted and he didn’t care how he got it. He didn’t care that he was playing with the life of a child!
God, I hope we found Mirage soon! I couldn’t think of her at the clutches of such a lowlife bastard either!
Malaya opened the door to Julian’s room and all of us entered the room to find Candice sitting by his side. She looked up at all of us in surprise and maybe a little fear as she stood up from the chair.
“Is everything okay?” She asked in a small voice, holding Julian’s tiny hand in her own. “He’s going to be okay, right?”
“Yes, honey.” Malaya went to her and picked her up into her arms. “Julian will be fine, but for that…he’ll need to get a few shots. Why don’t you go home for now? And when you come back in the evening, he will be a lot better?”
Candice, the poor girl, looked at all of us unsurely, her gaze lingering at me a little longer until I gave her a reassuring smile.
“Okay.” She agreed at last and Malaya took her outside to leave her at the elevator.
We all waited beside Julian’s bed with teeth gritting patience for Daisy to show up. I went up to him and took his hand, removing the bandage slowly to reveal the black, tar like mark on his palm. A golden glow surrounded the mark and it was my magic holding the infection at bay. I didn’t know if I’ll have to remove it or not for the cure to work, but I didn’t want to. What if removing it made it worse?
No…I couldn’t take that chance.
“I’m here!” Daisy announced as she bounded into the room with her tools. She set them down at the foot of the bed and then took out a tiny vial with a yellowish liquid inside it. Taking out a syringe, she extracted the liquid and then brought it over to Julian.
“Do you insert it into his veins or into the infection?” I asked her before she could inject him with it.
“Into the infection.” She confirmed. “It neutralizes whatever it is that has infected him. I tried a drop of it on his blood, but there was no effect at all.”
She brought the syringe close to his blackened palm and then turned to look at me. Swallowing the lump in my throat, I nodded…and she inserted the syringe into the middle of his palm…and emptied its contents…
For a few seconds, nothing happened.
And then the dark began to retreat. Slowly. Little by little, until it ate away the entire dark patch to leave behind clear, unbroken skin, like he had never been infected in the first place.
The bright ring of my magic began to shrink on its own and then disappeared. Its purpose having being served as it now had nothing to protect.
“It worked!” Daisy said in wonder, but I held my breath.
It was only when Julian’s breathing finally became even and his eyes fluttered open did my heart jump in my chest, and my mind was finally at peace that my little brother was okay! He was awake!
“J-Julian?” I called out to him, my voice breaking as I weaved my hand through his hair.
His blue eyes turned to my direction tiredly, but the small smile he gave me in return melted my heart. He really was okay. My baby brother really was going to make it!
“I’ll do a thorough check up on him.” Daisy told us. “You guys can go rest. He’s going to be fine now.”
“I’ll stay.” I told everyone else. “I want to stay with him.”
“Of course.” Alpha Charles gave me an understanding smile. “Take care of Julian. We’ll need to head out now…the va-guests are almost here.”
I gave Cameron a nervous look but he shook his head. ‘Stay.’ He told me via our mating bond. ‘I’ll take care of everything else. Julian needs you too.’
Glad that everyone understood my need to stay close to my brother, I watched everyone leave Julian’s room one by one.
I may not be able to make it when they go to rescue Mirage, but I hope that they get someone who can help them with their battle against the witch…or whatever it is that Alistair has on his side, helping him fight his battles.
