Chapter 52 I have a request

Chapter 52 I have a request
AXEL'S POV
Drary stood there, speechless, when he looked around him, his eyes locked with mine. The grimace on his face was so ugly and for a moment, I thought he was going to break down crying, something he did as a child when he didn't get what he wanted. “I am going to prove you wrong, I'm going to prove all of you wrong.” He said boldly as if that would help in convincing them.
“You should do that fast, if not, you'll be surprised when Alpha Axel chooses someone else to be his heir cause if I can recall, you are just the young alpha with no proper power.” Lucas mocked him, his words getting harsher the more he continued.
“I really like that kid, are you sure we can't convince him to stay with us while the son of that tramp goes to replace him.” My wolf suddenly mindlinked him
“Where did you go?” I questioned him, recalling that after I felt that pain, he was already gone and even when I killed that lesser Alpha, the bloodlust didn't incite him to forcefully take control.
“To the spirit world, I went to converse with the moon goddess.”
“And-”
“And what?" He snapped back, revealing that something had gone wrong.
“And what happened?” I still pushed ahead with my questions
“She refused to see anyone. Who knows what is bugging her.” It was very clear that my wolf being turned away hit him harder than he wanted.
According to my wolf, every wolf spirit lives in the spirit world where they had contact with the moon goddess but there is a catch, the moment they return, almost everything concerning the spirit world simply fades from their minds. Apart from basic information, you could never get anything out of the wolves and that is because they don't recall anything once they are back.
“Well you missed a lot while you're gone.”
“Apart from seeing that spawn of yours embarrass himself before everyone? Tell me more”
“One Alpha decided to go visit the moon goddess so I just gave him an early flight ticket.” I answered him with a sarcastic tone.
“Oh, nice one. You are beginning to sound more and more like me.” I ended the mindlink with him before he began a round of his self praising mantra
“Alpha, shall we continue?” One of the lesser alpha's approached me, he stood a few feet away worried that he might be my next target.
Well, luckily for him, I was no longer in the mood to use anyone as a scapegoat. “Sure,” I returned to the head of the table, while the other Alphas quickly took their seats and soon only Gwendolyn and Drary were left awkwardly standing in the room.
“Apart from-” my eyes glanced through the betas who were still in the room until my eyes settled on Luther, then I pointed at him. “You. The rest of you can disperse.”
The betas shifted nervously on the spot, their eyes glancing at their alphas as if they were waiting for a command from them. This immediately enraged me. “GET OUT!” I yelled and they all scrambled out of the room.
“You! The one with dark hair, you should stay and relay the message to your new alpha.” I pointed out the beta of the lesser alpha that I had sent on an early journey.
The Beta nervously looked at me before returning and sliding into the seat of his now deceased alpha. “Good.” Apart from Luther, only Jake was left in the room.
War was coming.
And if the other alphas fell apart under the pressure… there is a possibility that only Lucas and I would be the only ones left standing when it is all over.
“Now we may begin..” I pretended not to notice how awkward Drary and Gwendolyn were while standing while the rest of us except Luther and Jake were seated. “We don't know when-”
“Uh Father-” Drary called out to me, interrupting me in the process. “I have a request.”
“Please, share.”
“I request to be part of this discussion.” He raised his chin higher, his gaze focused on Lucas who didn't even give two fucks about him.
“Oh, I thought you were just here to wine and dine, that's the buffet table over there,” I said nonchalantly. “Now what-”
“Father- can Gwendolyn stay for the meeting, you know that I'm not okay leaving her all alone.”
“I didn't know she was such a precious china. Now, she is not allowed to be here, she can either return to the pack house where the others are or she could wait outside. Pick your poison.”
“Alpha, I promise to remain -” Gwendolyn started coyly.
“Get out!” I added alpha command to my tone, leaving her no choice to simply turn around and leave. I saw how Drary's fist clenched as she simply walked away without a backward glance.
..effect of the alpha command. It wasn't something I used often cause I liked to give everyone a chance to choose freely but not this time.
“Now,” I saw how Drary was about to open his mouth, but before I could say anything, someone else was even faster than me.
“Drary aren't you being a nuisance tonight, the night isn't young anymore and we all have a lot to discuss. Unlike you, the rest of us bear the weight of our pack on our shoulders.” Lucas gave him a sidelong, speculative glance as he spoke.
Some of the other alphas nodded in silent agreement, none of them were bold enough to put Drary in his place, possibly because of my presence.
“What do you mean? I just wanted to ask if he could bring me a chair.” He pointed his finger at someone I least expected.
Luther.
Ever since he arrived, I could count the various expressions that had appeared on his face on one hand. Even though he looked chill on the surface, he was more like a ticking time bomb that exploded on impact.
Luther slowly turned his head and gave him a look that seemed to say ‘are you nuts’. He even goes as far as pointing at himself, “are you talking about me?”
“Who else was I pointing at?” He inquired haughtily.
I shook my head at this.
As much as I wanted to see a showdown between the two of them, now wasn't the right time because I wanted to see Thallyne badly, nor was it the right place.
“Come stand behind me or you can get out. I don't have time for your excesses.” That completely diverted the situation and probably saved Drary once again.
I doubt he'll be lucky the third time.
Drary lets out a sigh and slowly approaches, taking his place behind me and close to Jake.
“Now- what were we talking about?”
…..
A few hours later, various documents were passed along the table. Inside it was a bunch of paperwork which contained patrol distributions and rotations which would be performed by two neighboring packs. Inventories and allocation of various survival resources, warriors and scouts reinforcements in various borders.
“The southern ridge will now be reinforced jointly by Moonveil and Moonmist,” I said, my eyes glancing briefly at Lucas before returning to the table. “Rotations will remain like this until further notice. Any objections?”
My eyes looked around the table but no one spoke. No objections.
“Supply of resources will be based on contribution,” I continued after a moment of silence. “Those who commit wholeheartedly will receive priority when it comes to allocation.”
A quiet reminder to them to not slack off or they would be losing a lot.
Lucas cleared his throat. “Alpha Axel, what about the trade routes? If the rogues are aware of our movements, I'm sure they have people watching the trade routes”
“It would remain unchanged—for now,” I replied with a smile. “But it would be monitored to ensure that we don't fall into their traps. That's an impressive question.”
The praise was not just meant for him but for Brian who shifted behind me, he revealed how uncomfortable he felt.
Then he finally spoke, his voice came out steady despite the tensed pressure in the room. “What of internal disputes among smaller packs?”
What? How can he think that far?
It took a lot for me not to turn around and question him, the Drary that I knew didn't even involve himself in pack dynamics.
Some alphas shifted slightly on their seats, I studied them but in the end chose not to say anything or try to meditate. “Internal disputes will continue to be handled the way they've always been,” I remarked. “I won't get involved unless it becomes a threat to the stability of this alliance.”
Some of the Alphas whom I suspect were involved in this bowed their heads, and nodded silently.
“Are there any more questions? Any additions or anything you think I might have missed?” I asked calmly.
