Chapter Nine
May’s POV
“I hate you, Aslam. I fucking hate you. It was better when you were dead to me rather than show your face right now. You know what? I want out: I’m not interested in this bullshit anymore. Give me your fucking account details right this instance and let me fucking send your fucking money back to the fucked up asshole that you are”
Nicholas began laughing hysterically.
“You want out of what? You want out of our deal, right? After receiving half of the payment and agreeing to continue what you started in the first place. Go on ahead and let me see you try, May. You’ll realize that I didn’t come this far to be affected by gold diggers like you”
I raised my hand once more to slap him, but he stopped me this time, holding my hand tight. As I struggled to remove my hand, he kept his grip tight and kept on smirking at me.
“Just because you did it the first time doesn’t mean I’ll allow you to hit me the second time. You don’t have the fucking right to do that” He snarled.
“Neither do you have the fucking right to call me a gold digger when it was you who made the offer in the first place and even added a shitty five thousand dollars that I never asked for” I replied, eyes blazing with anger.
“I thought I should make your miserable life better. You’ve suffered enough”
“Who do you think you are? Fairy godmother. Or should I say godfather” I spat “You need a life, May. Get some dresses, go on trips, and stop holding yourself down in a room along Fourth Street, trying to make a living out of writing erotic stories”
Wait! How did he know that I was living on Fourth Street, I never mentioned that information since I got here?
“You’ve been stalking me” I demanded.
“Stalk is an out statement, May. More like I’ve been checking up on you to see if your life had made any positive and better changes since I left you back then but then to my greatest joy, I realized you were still as wretched and miserable as before”
I’ve been trying so hard not to let his words affect me but no matter what, he knew what to say to make me feel so bad for myself.
“Let go of me, Nicholas” I was tired of fighting and I needed breathing space. I want to get out of here.
“Let Go!” I yelled at him once I realized he wasn’t letting go rather he was holding my hand tightly. I struggled to remove my hand from his and he still held on tight.
“I want to leave this place. I don’t care about your money or anything, I just want to get the fuck out of here” I struggled.
He suddenly let go of my hand when I least expected and I found myself hitting my left side against the wall because I was still struggling when he let go.
“Okay! You can go” he said.
I turned to look at him unbelievably. I knew he was up to something, but I decided to ignore that feeling and push myself away from the wall I had collided into, moved closer to my bags, and started packing them up.
“You can walk out of this room but trust me, the moment you walk out of that gate, the police will be right behind you” I felt him standing right behind my back.
“They’ll be chasing you for blackmailing me until they catch you, throw you in jail while I file a lawsuit against you for impersonating and blackmailing. Let’s just say I’ll tell them a little story of how you walked into my house pretending to be my fiancée and when I tried removing you from my house, you threatened me with exposing my fake sex videos to the world”
He traced the back of my neck with his finger, sending shivers down my body as thick tears roll down my face.
“You know that is not true, Aslam”
“Maybe you’ll have a better explanation of why my money is in your bank account and how those fake sex videos turned up in your apartment”
“You can’t do that. You have no power to do that” I screamed.
“Really? I’m quite surprised that you haven’t been following my life since we broke up. You would’ve noticed that I climbed that ladder of power too fast, May. Don’t make me do what will hurt us both, baby doll”
His lips landed on my neck and I pushed him off.
“Don’t you dare put that filthy mouth on me, Aslam”
He smirked wickedly at me.
“Why are you doing this, Nicholas?”
“Decide May, who am I to you, Nicholas or Aslam,” He asked with pure evil in his eyes.
I knew I couldn’t choose Aslam, he was just Nicholas, this new evil person.
“You’re just Nicholas. A psychopathic stranger who has no life other than making people miserable” I yelled “Then keep on rolling in that misery till I tell you it is over” He began walking towards the door.
“Why are you doing this, Nicholas?” I cried out.
“To keep you here and make you feel miserable enough to pay for everything you did back then”
“It was all your fault. You broke me, you hurt me, I didn’t do anything wrong, Nicholas”
“You need to look deeper than you’ve thought, May. You’re just a lying, deceptive girl I met back then. I regret ever knowing you”
When I looked into his eyes, the anger has been replaced by sadness. The glint in his eyes has disappeared and all that was left once more was a dull sensation, making me feel cold and sad.
“Can we talk about everything?” I asked “You’re seven years late for that”
He replied and walked out of the door. I crumbled into my bags of clothes, breathing heavily at everything that had happened. I checked my wrist to see that it was slightly bruised from the tight grip and when I touched it, I whimpered from the sharp pain.
My phone beeped with a message and once I checked, it was Declan asking to go out the next day, I quickly fired back a reply that I’ll see him the next day and not today. I just didn’t have the strength to go out and do anything.
I spent the rest of my day in the room, walking on my laptop for like ten minutes before I continued glaring at the blank space. I was experiencing first-class writer’s block, so I switched to watching some movies on Netflix.
It was a new Christmas movie titled Operation Christmas Drop. It was nice, amazing and the concept is something I love to pieces. The soldiers perform this operation Christmas drop with their helicopters to make sure supplies, such as clothes, books, fishing nets get to the poorest region and I couldn’t help but wonder at how great a man’s mind can get at times.
I ate both lunch and dinner in the room, pretending I wasn’t feeling too good enough to go out and join them in the dining area.
Before ten at night, I’d slept off on the couch without a blanket to keep me warm. I brought my knees closer to my chest and slept off, reminding myself that I’ll need to get Declan to help me with getting a blanket and some other things I’ll be needing the next day.
When I woke up the following morning, a blanket was already tucked around me, covering me to my neck while a bandage was worn around my wrist, making me wonder if Santa Claus came early to make my Christmas dreams come true.
