Chapter Twelve

May’s POV

Nicholas came out of the shower a few minutes later. I couldn’t go in next because I was curled up on the couch, memories of the past creeping into my heart like a parasite.

I closed my eyes to try and stop the tears from flowing but nothing worked. I needed a miracle, a miracle to stop myself from either hurting myself or Nicholas tonight. It’s been so long I used a therapist, but I think I have to go back now because I wasn’t as healed as I’d thought.

Suddenly, I felt a presence right in front of me. I didn’t open my eyes because I knew who it was. Maybe Nicholas was probably getting ready to strangle me to death thinking I was asleep.

I felt his hand in my face, cleaning away my tears. His hands pushed my hair away from my face to the back of my ear and I almost moaned at the tingling sensation I felt. His finger resumed cleaning up my tears before I shifted a little bit unable to control how I felt with his finger right on my skin.

Seconds later, I felt his cold lips right against my forehead, kissing me lightly, still, I refused to open my eyes.

“Baby doll” He whispered some incoherent words after that and though I tried to make sense out of it I couldn’t and before I knew it, I was slipping into dreamland.

When I woke up the following morning, he was right in front of me, fixing up his tie, getting ready for work as usual. The thought of what Declan had told me about how this castle was a vacation home for them made me wonder why he was still working if he was really on vacation.

“You can attend the party. I don’t care about whatever it is that’ll end up happening to you over there and I wouldn’t be held accountable for anything”

I nodded not particularly at his words but at the fact that he was mad.

Wait a minute, I don’t mean mad as in angry but mad like he has a psychological and mental problem.

“I understand”

“Good” he replied.

“Yeah, it should actually be good that I understand that either you need to go see a therapist or the fact that you need to be locked up in a mental asylum for your serious issues” I stood up from the couch and walked towards my bag of clothes.

I couldn’t understand how someone would go from being abnormal to normal and then back to being abnormal.

“I don’t have the time for your bullshit this morning, May. Go do whatever you want out there, it’s not my business” He hissed.

“Yeah, I will, and you should also let me know when all these facades are over so I can take the next flight to either mars or Pluto because I don’t seem to understand how every other person is managing to exist on the same planet as yours”

He ignored me as usual, picked up his suit, and turned to me.

“I’ve left my credit card on the bed. You can use it to get anything you want” He said and started walking towards the door.

“Nicholas, wait,” I said in my most calm voice. He ignored me, opened the door, and walked out.

I picked up the card from the bed and ran after him, “Aslam...” that did the magic. He stopped and turned to look at me.

I walked towards him, a huge smile on my face. I stretched the card towards him and moved my body, so my lips were closer to his ears.

“I don’t need your money because it seems you need it more. You should book a session with a psychiatrist or probably book a room in a mental asylum”

I kissed his ear before moving away from him.

“I just have a better idea. Shove it up your ass” I pressed the credit card into his large palm and walked away, feeling victorious.

Thinking I’ve won, I had this huge grin on my face, until my body was pulled back before I could reach the door and slammed into the wall right beside me.

Nicholas was so close to me, his body pressed against mine. He gently placed his forehead on mine, breathing heavily, and kept on staring at my lips.

“Nicholas, what’s going…” Before I could finish my statement, he slammed his lips into mine, kissing me passionately.

I didn’t want to succumb to him, that will be too dangerous. I can’t let him dominate me when I know it’s all games to him.

I couldn’t stop him when his tongue suddenly met mine, warming me up. His hand slipped into the top I was wearing and held both sides of my tummy with his cold hands. Teasingly, his hands moved up to underneath my breast, and knowing I didn’t wear a bra, it fucking messed me up. I felt the wetness pooling in between my legs little by little.

Suddenly, an image came to memory. An image of him turning his back when I needed him the most.

Knowing what to do, I bit his lips so hard, kicking him in the leg at the same time that he removed his lips from mine, glaring at me.

“You have no fucking right to kiss me like that. You know why? I hate you. I hate you so much that hearing your name brings so much bitterness to my soul. Because when I needed you the most, you turned against me” I cried out.

He moved back from me looking vulnerable.

“When I trusted you the most, you fucking betrayed me, May. The hatred is mutual”

He said, a strange look on his face, and walked out of the house without looking at me.

Later on that morning, I joined the Queen for breakfast.

“What are you wearing to the party?” The Queen asked mid breakfast “One of my dresses” I replied.

“Why don’t you get a new dress?” She asked “I don’t really know anywhere that I can get one”

“Okay! I’m free today so I’ll take you somewhere to get a dress”

I smiled at her, grateful I could get new clothes and still go out with Tiffany.

Before I left the house after breakfast, Tiffany had already left the house. She told Bella to get me a cab that’ll drop me there, and that she’ll meet me up at the store.

I got there and waited for minutes outside of the store for Tiffany to show up, but she didn’t.

Tiffany’s POV

“Hey, son! You know what? I just went to the store to get some dresses and suddenly I feel this really crazy stomachache and I need to get back home, do you think you can pick me up?”

“Which store?” He asked, obviously falling for the trap that I’d set for him.

“The regular one I use” I replied, feigning a tired and weak voice.

“Okay! I’ll be there in a few minutes. Do you think I should call the ambulance?”

“No! That isn’t necessary. Just hurry!”

I quickly dropped the call and winked at Bella. I knew something was up with both Nicholas and May. They both were hiding something but one thing they couldn’t try hiding was the hatred they had for each other and I knew I just had to play Cupid for these two.

I want them to solve their problems by spending more time together and I hope it works out just fine.

May’s POV

As I lifted my eyes at the sound of approaching footsteps, I almost cursed my fate when I saw Nicholas walking towards me.

“Where’s Tiffany?” He asked as he got to my side.

“I should be asking you the same thing. She told me to come here and wait for her and she never turned up. What are you doing here by the way?”

“Because Tiffany told me to come here. I think I understand what’s going on”

He removed his phone from his pocket and made a call.

“Okay, Mother! I’ll do just that” he replied after the person on the phone spoke.

He turned to me, scrutinizing me with those beautiful eyes of his.

“Let’s go in so you can get the dress. Tiffany isn’t coming anytime soon”

“You don’t have to go with me, I can go by myself” I replied.

“I’m not doing this because I want to. I’m doing it because Tiffany asked me to. So, get in and let us get done with this. I’ve got better things to do”

Before I could say anything further, he opened the door leading into the store as I had no other choice but to walk after him.

Dresses after dresses and I couldn’t help but marvel at how helpful Nicholas was. Sometimes he’ll look at me like a predator looks at its prey and I know how many times he rejected some of the dresses, saying they were too tight, and we even had an argument before I picked the last one. Also, I didn’t allow him to pay for the dresses I got even though he insisted.

“Thank you for today. You were really helpful” I said as he parked his car in front of the house.

“I did it for Tiffany, not you. So, don’t feel special or important because you’re not”
