Chapter Eleven
May’s POV
Declan couldn’t stop gushing about how handsome Adam looked and how much he’ll love to know him much better. He asked if I wanted to know what the *much better* word he added means, but I told him no, I wasn’t ready to be pulled into his sexual escapade fantasies.
My innocent ears were too young for that.
“You’re being so dramatic, May,” he said, holding my left hand while his other hand was on the wheel.
“Says the one who wouldn’t stop gushing about the guy he just met few minutes ago”
“He’s handsome so don’t blame me for talking too much about me” He added.
“I thought you were straight”
He rolled his eyes at me, “That doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate a hot male specie when I see one”
“That wasn’t appreciation, Declan. That was you trying to get to….” I stopped when I couldn’t say the word anymore longer.
“Finish the words may, I wouldn’t kill you”
“You know what I wanted to say and keep off, cos he’s mine” I added trying to change that topic.
“How is he yours?”
“I saw him first” I stuck my tongue out at him like a child and he gave me that his lively smile.
“Come on. Don’t break my heart like that, May.” He whined and I couldn’t stop laughing.
“Give me his number,” He asked.
“No” I removed my hand from his.
“Why?” He poured “Because I don’t have the number myself”
“You’re crazy, girl. You’re claiming someone you don’t even have his number”
“But he invited me to a party he’ll be hosting on Friday and I guess I’ll finally get his number by then. He’s the mayor’s son by the way”
“For real? I’ve heard so much about him from the locals and I’ve learned he’s rich too. I can say I’ve hit the jackpot, girl” he winked at me.
“Hook me up with him,” He asked.
“I thought you were straight,” I asked again with all seriousness this time.
I wouldn’t like the idea of him keeping his sexuality a secret from me. If I’m to have a friend, I wouldn’t want any secrets between us.
“I was only playing along girl, I’m straight”
“You’re sure?”
“About my sexuality or yours?” I glared at him trying to be sarcastic.
“Yours of course”
“I’m as sure as anything. But can I come along with you to the party? I’m quite useless on Friday and I’ll love to be at a party and have fun till Saturday morning”
“Definitely but I’ll try to find a way to talk to him first” I replied.
The car stopped right in front of the Castle.
“We’re here. I’ll see you soon especially if you need help with the dress you’ll wear for the party”
“I have dresses I could wear”
“I doubt that. But know I’m only one call away, okay?”
I nodded and smiled at him.
Before I could open the door, he said, “you’ll still tell me why you’re still here someday, right?”
He asked the usual playful look on his face was replaced with seriousness.
“Definitely, I’ll tell you and till then, I’m sorry I’m keeping this a secret from you”
“It’s not a big deal, girl. Goodnight May”
“Goodnight DL”
He smiled at the nickname, waited till I entered the building before he drove off, leaving the smoke of his truck in his trail.
As I walked towards the kitchen to say hello to Bella and see if I could help with dinner, the door suddenly opened to reveal both Tiffany and Nicolas, walking in.
Tiffany looked exhausted while Nicholas looked as perfect as anything. He looked really good in the suit that he was putting on, but I wished I could tear off the cloth from his body and replace it with my hands.
“Are you done ogling me?” Nicholas’s voice brought me out of my daydream.
“I wasn’t doing that. I was looking right behind you” I fired back.
“How was your day, Tiffany?” I asked the poor old lady who had already sat on one of the couches in the living room and also requested for water to drink.
“It was hectic. How did you spend yours?”
“I went out with a friend” I replied, shrugging my shoulders.
“Same one who drugged you” Nicholas asked “None of your business”
The Queen looked at Nicholas before looking back at me, obviously getting more curious about what was happening between us.
“An invitation card came in from the Mayor’s house” Bella announced, breaking the deafening silence.
Before I could reply and tell her that it was mine, she had already given it to the Queen. The Queen collected it, observed it before opening it.
“I think this card is for May. It seems she got invited to a party that Adam will be throwing on Friday” She passed it to me, and I collected it, tracing my fingers down the design before opening it to see my name on it.
Nicholas passed my side almost hitting me by the shoulder before walking off to the room.
“Do you think I should go, Tiffany? I met him today at the market and he told me about it, but I was a little bit reluctant since I don’t know anything going on around here” I asked.
“You should go if you want to, May, and maybe take Nicholas with you as well. Adam is a really good boy, I trust him” She added.
“Have a good night's rest, Tiffany, and thank you” I walked away from the living area and right into the room I share with Nicholas.
I spotted him by the wardrobe removing his suit and his tie. I walked closer, thinking twice about what Tiffany had said.
Nicholas is obviously the last person I’ll invite to the party with me but if I’m to follow our agreement, I guess I should discuss this with him and know the way forward.
As I cleared my throat, ready to talk, Nicholas ripped his shirt away from his body, and all the words I’d wanted to say disappeared into thin air.
Holy cow!
His body was like a well-sculpted artifact.
Damn!
He looked so good. I bite my lower lip to try and stop myself from looking so much at him, but my eyes were too fixated on his chest to look elsewhere.
“Can I help you?” He suddenly asked, almost yelling.
“No!” I replied upon regaining my senses.
I quickly moved to the side of the wardrobe and acted as if I wanted to pick my clothes from my bag.
“You’re not going to that party,” He said, changing my mood.
“Why?”
“Because I said so” I closed my eyes for a second, trying to control my temper.
“And Who are you?” I asked angrily.
“Your fiancée”
I snorted, “Fake fiancée! Give me another reason because that isn’t tangible enough to stop me from going”
“How about I try this? You remembered what happened seven years ago right? I told you not to go to that party, but you insisted and went because you knew what your agenda was”
“Which was?” My grip on my bag had tightened.
“To slut yourself away to the next guy you see” He replied, breaking my cord of joy.
“You know that’s not true” my voice was shaking.
“Tell that to the dogs” he replied and turned to walk away from me.
“Ooh, I forgot. You’re one of them” I replied.
All I could do was stand still, eyes swollen with tears and hands fisted.
Maybe I’m like this because I wanted him to hear my inner voice and not ignore it like he did the last time.
