Chapter 48 Awaken
Chapter 48 Awaken
DANNI POV
The room changed. They didn’t drag me this time. They led me. I knew I didn’t have a choice at the moment.
A circular chamber opened before me, carved from dark stone that seemed to drink in the light. Symbols etched into the floor pulsed faintly, like a heartbeat I couldn’t quite hear.
Was this magic? Something in my bones, maybe the wolf told me it was old. And it was hungry.
Chains, colder than metal, wrapped around my wrists. They weren't tight, but they felt final, as if they didn't need to hold me down. The room itself would do that for them.
Figures moved at the edges of the chamber. Under hooded clocks and dead Silent.
Glowing eyes watched as they waited.
And at the center—A raised platform.
“Step forward,” the calm one said.
I didn’t.
He didn’t repeat himself. He didn’t need to. The floor beneath me shifted, pulling me forward inch by inch until I stood exactly where they wanted me.
My heart pounded. But I lifted my chin anyway.
“Still think this is going to work?” I asked, voice rough but steady.
He smiled faintly. “It already is.”
The symbols flared. Heat surged up my legs—burning hot. Then cold—Then something that felt like both at once.
I gasped, knees buckling as power twisted through me, dragged out whether I wanted it or not.
Inside—She woke. Not gently. Not quietly. The white wolf surged against the barrier like a storm breaking against glass.
No!
The word wasn’t spoken. It was felt. The room trembled.
The vampire’s eyes sharpened.
“Interesting…” he murmured.
LUKA’S POV
The entrance wasn’t meant to be found. But nothing would stop me from getting to her.
We found it buried into the side of a cliff, masked in shadow and magic, the opening revealed itself only when Jordan whispered the last thread of the spell aloud.
I thanked the moon goddess that we sent every other beta in every pack to learn spell work. Usually we witches but the vampires left the spell open for others to come.
Either they forgot to end it. Or there was more Vampires coming. I needed to keep this in mind while we move forward.
I watched Stone shift.
Joel glanced at Luka. “Last chance to plan this.” I didn’t slow.
“Already did.”
Then I stepped inside. The air hit differently, It was Dead and Still and very Wrong.
My wolf surged forward instantly, hackles raised, every instinct screaming.
Down.
Hunt.
Kill.
I didn’t resist. Not anymore. Behind him, the others trailed—but there was space now. Because I wasn’t moving like a man. I was moving like a weapon.
The first vampire didn’t even see me. I moved so fast everything was a blur. Then a crack sounded. A body hit the wall and stayed there.
The second tried to shout, but Didn’t get to finish.
I caught him by the throat, slammed him into stone hard enough to fracture it.
“Where is she?” I growled. My wolfs teeth snapping with every syllable.
The vampire smiled through broken teeth. Wrong answer. My grip tightened.
“Where.” I snapped. A flicker of fear showed in his eyes now. He lifted a hand. A direction. Down. That was enough. I snapped his neck and dropped the body like it didn’t matter.
Because it didn’t.
DANNI’S POV
Pain, dull and throbbing, crept through my veins and bones like slow, cold fingers. It dragged something from me, piece by piece, a heavy ache that echoed in every nerve, filling the air with a metallic tang and a chill that clung to my skin.
“Don’t fight it,” one of them said.
I laughed. Actually laughed. I think I was losing it, but I wasn’t going to give up. It came out breathless and a little unhinged.
“Yeah,” I rasped. “That’s not happening.”
The symbols flared brighter. The pressure increased. And then—Something slipped.
The barrier groaned, a thin, spiderweb crack appearing. It was just a hairline fracture, barely visible, but it was enough. My vision snapped into laser focus, the world around me slowing to a crawl. Each subtle shift, each tiny motion, became unnervingly distinct. The air filled with amplified sounds – the rustle of fabric, the creak of floorboards, each sharp intake of breath, and then, their pounding heartbeats, echoing in my ears. A guttural growl rumbled deep within my chest, a low, dangerous vibration.
Mine. And hers as one.
I smelled them.
The calm one stepped closer, eyes gleaming now. “There you are…”
I lifted my head slowly. And smiled. All teeth and Predatory. He had no Idea what came for him now.
“Hi,” I said.
Then the door exploded.
LUKA’S POV
The blast rocked the whole chamber. Stone crumbled inward as I ripped through the last barrier, it felt like paper. A wave of power exploded from him, sending several vampires flying back.
Silence followed. For half a second. Then everything came back to life it was chaos.
My eyes locked onto one thing. The only thing that mattered. Everything else was secondary.
Danni.
My love, my mate, my everything. She was Alive.Thank the moon goodess, Relief hit—And immediately burned into rage. The temperature in the room seemed to drop. She was bound and hurting.
“You,” I said. It wasn’t loud. It didn’t need to be. Every vampire in the room turned toward me. The calm one didn’t look surprised. Of course he didn’t.
“You’re early,” he said, sounding slightly annoyed.
I moved forward, slowly and deliberately. Every step felt like a countdown.
“You took something that belongs to me.”
The words were not romantic. They were territorial. Ancient and Final.
The vampire’s lips curved slightly. “She doesn’t belong to you.”
My eyes flashed.
“Wrong answer.”
Then I moved.
DANNI’S POV
I'd never seen anyone like him. Not before. Not even close. Luka wasn't just fighting; he was unleashing.
The air, thick with the metallic tang of spilled blood, vibrated with each impact. He moved with a brutal, precise grace, a blur of shadowed strength. The sharp crack of bone and the sickening crunch of impact echoed as vampires didn't just fall; they shattered into dust beneath his relentless, chilling assault.
And for the first time since being taken—Hope. Not just my bravado. But true hope Wild and sharp.
But the ritual—It didn’t stop. The symbols beneath me flared brighter. The pull increased.
“No—” I gasped.
The calm one turned—not toward Luka—Toward me.
“Finish it,” he ordered. Power surged again. Stronger and Harder. I SCREAMED.
The crack inside me widened—The white wolf roared. The room shook. And suddenly—I wasn’t just trapped in my body anymore.
I was with her.
For a heartbeat—Two beings.
One power.
The chains snapped.
LUKA’S POV
Something changed, I felt it. Mid-strike. Mid-kill.
A surge of power rippled through the room—wild, ancient, unmistakable.
My head snapped toward Danni. And for the first time since she was taken—my expression shifted. Not full of anger and rage.
I was in Awe.
Because what stood there—Wasn’t just the girl I was trying to save anymore. It was something far more dangerous. And far more powerful.
DANNI’S POV
I stood, breathing hard, the sharp sting in my eyes blurring the dim light around me. Beneath my skin, a low, electric hum thrummed steadily, warm and familiar, like it had always belonged there. The air smelled faintly metallic, charged with energy.
The vampires hesitated now.
Good.
They should. I looked at Luka, really looked at him. And for the first time, I didn’t feel small, or lost, or like I needed saving. I felt equal.
A slow smile spread across my face.
“Guess,” I said, voice steady despite the chaos around us, “you didn’t have to do all the work after all.”
