Chapter 40 Lavender
Chapter 40 Lavender
“Danni! Are you okay?” Luka looked down at me and gently patted my back.
“Yeah… Wrong pipe.” I cough out. And lifted my arms up over my head. Luka looked at me like I was crazy.
“What have you never heard of hands up when something goes down the wrong pipe?” I asked him once the coughing fit had calmed down.
Luka raised a brow and looked amused when he said, “No.”
I laughed at the face he was giving me. His expression softened when he saw me laughing. “Must be something only my mom does,” I tell him. “SHIT MY MOM!”
“Relax, I just left there. She is fine. Still in a coma. No new news.” Luka reassured. I opened my mouth to say something, but Luka cut me off. “Alex is there now if anything changes. We have guests tonight, and there will be a lot to discuss. You can see her after if you are feeling up to it.”
I took a minute to let that sink in and relax. Nothing has changed with my mom. So that's good, I guess? I hope she wakes up soon. But what would change? Would she still be a shell of a person? Would she be back to normal? Or would she have new trauma and be worse off than before?
“Hey, Beautiful.” Luka lifted my chin. Forcing me to meet his gaze. “Talk to me. What’s going on in that amazing mind of yours?”
I take a moment to choke down my emotions so I can speak rationally. “Sorry. I was just worrying about her and what kind of state she might be in when she wakes up.” It hurt to admit it out loud. I twiddled with my thumbs.
“Hey. I can’t promise it will be okay. I will not make any false promises to you,” Luka lifts my chin. “But I will promise. We will figure it out together as long as you want me. I will be here in whatever capacity you need. It is your choice.” Luka’s warm smile comforts me.
“Thank you,” Is all I can say under the weight of his gaze.
“Okay, Let me finish feeding you so you can take your medicine.” Luka smiles at me and I do as I am told.
After I eat and take the medicine that Alex left for me I laid on Luka’s chest his warmth comforted me. As I was laying on him, he ran his fingers through my hair. The soothing motion made me sleepy. I am pretty sure I dozed off a bit.
“Hey no sleeping.” A groggy deep voice rumbled under me.
“Are you telling me or yourself that?” I asked as I yawned.
Lukas deep chuckle shook me a little. “Both?” Luka kissed me on the top of the head. “Do you want to try to shower or something before company comes by? They should be here in the next hour or two.”
“Who’s coming by? Do I know them?” I asked realizing I had no clue.
“The holloways.” Luka explain and the biter hurt of betrayal soured my stomach. I still didn’t understand why they never told me.
“Do I have to see them?” I asked hoping Luka would say no.
“Yes, they are coming to explain and maybe figure out how you are a shifter.” Luka explained.
“I don’t know if I want to see them.” I voiced my hurt. “If I was truly family to them. Wouldn’t they hide it from me.” I don’t know if I’ll ever forgive them for this.
“You will have to ask them yourself,” Luka tells me, I huffed out a sigh. “I know but there are laws in place to protect shifters.” I turn to Luka. Mulling over that information. Didn’t Chad and Monica say something about laws? Then it hit me.
“Is Chad a fucking shifter?” I asked anger burning my insides. Did Chad know I was a shifter when he took my verginity. My brain began whirling on me. But I caught the shift in Luka’s gaze causing me to stop and listen to him.
“Yes and he is next in line to lead his territories pack.” Luka gritted out. He did not like Chad. Then his face changed back to the one I knew. “Let’s get you cleaned up and comfortable when they come okay? Please hear them out.” Luka pleaded. Fine if he wanted me to hear them out I would at least do that. I don’t know if I would forgive them. But I had something else I needed to ask. I don’t know how much betrayal I could handle.
“Fine I will hear them out. But I have one more question.” I tell Luka.
“I will answer whatever you want to know. But first let’s get you cleaned up, can I help with any of it?” Luka asked me. I was grateful he gave me the space I needed and didn’t force himself in my personal space. He showed me into the bathroom. This was the most luxurious bathroom I have ever seen. There was a huge jacuzzi tub with all sorts of lavender soaps and wash. It even had the softest purple robe I had ever seen. I looked over at Luka, and he read the question in my gaze.
“I thought you might like these, maybe make being here a little more comfortable…” Luka trailed off like he was trying to find the right words. and I am pretty sure he was blushing. “I know you like the color purple and the smell of lavender reminds me of you.” The look in his gaze made me want to melt into a puddle.
I smelled like lavender to him? That smell made him think of me. I don’t know why but that though did something to me.
“Sandalwood and citrus.” I blurted out. Heat scorching my face.
“What?” Luka eyes widen at my words. Did I say something wrong?
“Uh… that’s the smell the makes me think of you.” I don’t say it nearly as confidently as he does but I put it out there. I watch the expressions roll across his face something like amazement crossed his face like he couldn’t believe he had a scent. Then something lustful came over him.
“I have a smell to you?” He smirked mischievously at me.
“Uhh yes… what’s wrong with that? You said I had one.”
“It’s a shifter thing… we all have a particular scent that is us, and us alone. Non shifters do not. They smell like laundry and whatever deodorant they have on, they can change but a shift sent never changes.” Luka explained.
