Chapter 246
Chapter 246
"Do you know why I didn't choose to join the family business after graduating from college, but started my own company instead? And aren't you curious where I got the money from?"
Planning ahead.
Ever since Michael found out about those illegitimate children, he'd been secretly planning everything.
First, he quietly sold all his allowance money and luxury items for cash, then made a fortune in the stock market.
Then, when real estate took off, he invested in properties.
After gathering enough money, he started his own company.
Now, Michael had just as much money as the family.
That was his confidence.
To make Evelyn believe him, Michael pulled out his asset statement.
Evelyn skimmed through it quickly, then opened her mouth wide in disbelief. "All this is yours?"
Michael nodded. "Of course. You're seeing it now, aren't you? This is our confidence - mine and yours. We don't need to take any more crap from anyone. And Grandpa can only push you around now. He knows perfectly well that I'm the only choice for heir, otherwise I'll make the family disappear."
The last sentence carried endless coldness.
Evelyn laughed bitterly at herself. "I'm so useless. I thought I was protecting you all these years, but you've actually grown up and can protect me now. I'm sorry for all the things I did to hurt you."
In that moment, mother and son truly made peace.
But thinking about what she'd done, Evelyn felt deeply guilty.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I never thought it would turn out like this. If I'd known, I would never have sent someone to hurt Sophia. You two should be together. You're better than your father. You know what you want and what you deserve. I won't stand in your way anymore."
Everything Evelyn did was just thinking of Michael, wanting to help him smoothly get the inheritance and stand on everyone's shoulders, not wanting him to be the one getting pushed around.
But after truly seeing what Michael was capable of, she decided to completely let go.
"I know you've grown up and have your own ideas. From now on, you do what you need to do. I'll support you quietly from behind. Whatever you need me to do, I'll help. And your uncles will help too."
Since the divorce drama, she'd obviously grown distant from her family, but Evelyn knew perfectly well that as long as there were interests involved, her family would help without hesitation.
What's more, if Michael really showed all his strength, both his father's family and his mother's family would be wary.
Over the next few days, Michael came to visit Sophia almost every day, and brought lots of nutritious food.
In just a few days, Sophia had filled out quite a bit, especially her face.
In front of the mirror.
Sophia stared at her obviously rounder figure, frozen in place.
"What's going on? It's only been a few days, how did I get this fat?"
"Come on, don't talk about you getting fat. Look at me, I've gained weight too. We need to diet next. Can't help it, just can't control my mouth. The stuff Michael sends every day is just too delicious."
Although Sophia's wound wasn't deep, in Michael's eyes, she was still injured and needed good care, so he had soup sent every day. All medicinal meals are made with expensive ingredients.
Those things were very nourishing and nutritious.
Olivia also benefited from it. In just a few days, both of them had gained a lot of weight.
Sophia looked at Olivia, then at herself, feeling something wasn't quite right.
Although both had gained weight, she'd obviously gained more, even though they ate about the same amount.
Suddenly thinking of something, Sophia quickly grabbed her phone to check the calendar, her heart racing.
Oh no.
She was several days late.
She'd been so busy lately, busy with family stuff and then getting injured and hospitalized, that she hadn't thought about this at all.
Could it really be?
Sophia's injury had mostly healed, so she decided to go to work, though she seemed distracted the whole way.
Olivia just thought she was nervous, so she didn't think much of it.
At the company.
Mia, with no trace of injury left on her body, came to the office.
When she saw Sophia and Olivia, she walked over with that same generous attitude.
"You two are here. We were just talking about you. Tonight is my grandfather's birthday party, and he's especially invited everyone. You must come."
This was clearly not well-intentioned.
Mia's smile carried a hint of scheming.
Olivia instinctively wanted to refuse, but Sophia nodded in agreement.
"We're colleagues, of course, we should show respect. Don't worry, we'll definitely be there tonight."
"Great, we'll be waiting for you then."
With that, Mia went off to work as if nothing had happened.
Olivia pursed her lips. "I have to hand it to these rich girls. They clearly hate your guts and don't want to deal with you, but they have to act all generous. What's the point? Do they really like being so fake?"
"Alright, alright. What they do has nothing to do with us. We don't need to worry about it. Like I always say, we don't need to worry about them, just take care of ourselves."
Michael was right about one thing, instead of worrying about this, why not think about how to make money?
If you're strong enough yourself, you don't need to fear anyone. No matter who comes, you don't have to worry.
Besides, Mia probably only had one goal now to marry Michael. She wouldn't care about anything else.
Just as Sophia thought, Mia didn't care about anything else now. She just wanted to get married quickly so she could have some say.
Those days she spent alone in the hospital made her deeply realize that her position in the family seemed to have no value except for marriage alliances. She was clearly in pain, but not a single person in the family cared.
In fact, if she hadn't hired a caregiver herself, there would have been no one to take care of her in the hospital.
So yeah, if you want to live comfortably in this life, you have to find your own way.
Night fell, and many people rushed home, while company employees rushed to a five-star hotel.
There were many security guards at the hotel entrance. They got in with invitations, and colleagues looked around the grand lobby with admiration.
