Chapter 247

Chapter 247

"Oh my god, we've only seen scenes like this on TV before, and now we're actually here at a place like this. We definitely need to eat more today and take lots of photos. It'll be something to brag about to others later."

"You can say that again! We probably won't get another chance in our lifetime to come to a place like this. We have to take lots of photos as memories. And these clothes and jewelry we're wearing - it's just so amazing. I never thought I'd get to come to a place like this in my life."

Hearing everyone's envious comments, Mia walked over.

"You look so beautiful today, and the jewelry you're wearing - we've seen it in magazines. It's worth tens of millions of dollars. I can't believe you just casually brought it out like that."

"You really are a rich young lady. We're so jealous."

Mia was indeed dressed very beautifully.

An expensive gown, precious jewelry. Any single item of her could buy a house.

In comparison, these colleagues' income level was just a few tens of thousands of dollars a month. The gap was huge. Even though Mia had prepared gowns for them, wearing them felt awkward because they didn't have expensive jewelry to go with them.

In contrast, Olivia and Sophia stood out among the crowd as particularly unusual.

Because neither of them wore gowns. They were just wearing simple dresses.

Mia walked over at this moment, looked at Sophia and the others, and spoke with fake surprise.

"Why are you two dressed like this? Didn't I tell you? I could pay to buy you gowns. Look at you dressed like this. Why don't you go back and change now?"

"Seriously, how embarrassing. It's just a dress. Even if you can't afford one, shouldn't you at least buy something a bit more expensive? That dress looks like it only costs a few hundred dollars."

Just a few days ago, they were flattering Sophia, and now, just days later, they'd started mocking her.

Olivia rolled her eyes. "Oh, please, shut up. Do you think you're so clever? Just keep your mouths shut. It'd be better for everyone. Besides, we came to attend a party. Nobody said we had to wear gowns."

"And what's wrong with our dresses? I think they're beautiful and perfect for this occasion. They may not be expensive, but they have character. Look at our figures."

Indeed, although their clothes stood out from the crowd, they suited their temperament perfectly.

Olivia was petite and charming, wearing a princess dress, looking exactly like a princess walking out of a castle.

And Sophia was even more striking - elegant and poised. The long dress on her, though only worth a few hundred dollars, looked just as good as designer clothes.

It was just more low-key compared to their gowns.

But even in the crowd, Sophia and Olivia were still eye-catching.

And this was exactly why Mia was even more jealous. She spoke with disdain, but inside she was seething with hatred.

The party soon began. As the host, Mia naturally had to greet guests with everyone, while Sophia and Olivia didn't go find Michael but stayed with their colleagues.

As soon as Sophia and Olivia sat down, they were surrounded by many people.

These colleagues had clearly received some kind of instruction or benefit, and immediately started with sarcasm.

"I'm just saying, if I were you, I'd be too embarrassed to come. After all, Mia's getting married soon. How awkward will it be for you then? I heard that after they get married, they're going to have kids. You'd better hurry up too - get as much as you can before they have children."

"Exactly. Being a mistress is kind of shameful, but the money is real. Don't worry, we won't look down on you. It's just a shame we won't be colleagues much longer. I'll actually miss you."

"Look, that's Michael's mother, right? We've seen her at the company. She's here now, too, and she's chatting happily with Wesley."

Hearing her colleague's words, Sophia looked in that direction.

She saw that Michael had arrived, with many people beside him who seemed to be family.

Behind him were Evelyn and a middle-aged man who were obviously a couple, though they seemed distant. On the surface, they looked dignified and elegant, but actually, they kept their distance with no physical contact at all.

Thinking about what Michael had mentioned before, it wasn't surprising. This father had who knows how many illegitimate children over the years.

Though they were husband and wife, they probably hadn't seen each other in ages.

Sophia didn't look for long and quickly looked away.

Although she no longer held resentment in her heart, she couldn't be indifferent toward someone who had once hurt her.

Everyone was eating and drinking, busy with all the delicious food, only taking time between bites to throw a few sarcastic remarks at Sophia.

Sophia didn't take these comments to heart and instead focused all her attention on her surroundings.

Honestly, this was her first time attending such a party, so she was curious. But their company was about to take on a hotel project, so she wanted to see how these hotels were set up. It might help launch a second career later.

Olivia naturally thought the same way. Both of them came with a learning attitude.

Just as the two were studying the surrounding architecture and decorations, a familiar figure walked over.

This person was none other than Evelyn.

"Are you okay?" a voice asked.

Sophia and Olivia both tensed up.

They both looked over. Olivia's instinctive reaction was quick - she stepped forward to shield Sophia behind her.

Evelyn smiled awkwardly. "I know I've done things in the past that wronged you. I'm here to formally apologize. From now on, I won't interfere in your affairs anymore. As long as you take good care of Michael, that's all that matters."

A mother's love knows no bounds. As a mother, Evelyn felt she owed Michael a lot, so she desperately tried to help him get everything.

But after mother and son talked things through, she realized how ridiculous she'd been, actually trying to hurt the person Michael cared about.

After thinking it through, Evelyn realized she'd made a terrible mistake.

So she'd made up her mind that from now on, no matter who Michael liked or wanted to be with, she wouldn't interfere anymore. As long as he was happy.

Sophia was quite surprised. She didn't expect Evelyn to say such things.

"I won't forgive you."

The words were crystal clear.

Evelyn laughed self-mockingly. "So, in your eyes, I came to find you just to ask for forgiveness? Actually, you're wrong. To me, your forgiveness doesn't matter. I just want to protect Michael."
