Chapter 88
Two days later, Joshua returned home with Scarlett, who was still seriously injured.
He arranged for Scarlett to be admitted to the hospital. As he was about to leave, Scarlett grabbed his hand and reminded him, "Joshua, you promised me that you'd divorce Ella when you got back. I don't want to wait too long."
If Joshua didn't do as she wished, she would send Ella to prison again.
After all, Ella had confessed.
No matter what Joshua chose, she wouldn't lose out.
"I know, I'll divorce her as soon as possible."
Joshua pulled his hand back and said, "Rest up. I'm going home first."
After leaving the hospital, when he got into Brian's car, Joshua instructed, "Go check on Scarlett for me. Find out who she's been in contact with since returning home, and see if there's anything unusual in her accounts or communications."
Even though Ella was always full of lies, and barely anything she said was true.
He still needed to verify whether what she said was actually fact.
After all, Scarlett had also been away for four years. Joshua no longer understood her.
Brian nodded.
Thinking of something, he told Joshua, "Mrs. Ava Thomas somehow found out that you arranged treatment for Mrs. Ella Thomas's child. She rushed to the hospital and stopped the child's treatment. Should we continue treating the child?"
Joshua felt overwhelmed and answered a different question, "Is she doing better?"
"She was improving, but these past two days with Mrs. Ava Thomas's interference, the situation has..."
"Take me to see her first."
Joshua didn't deny that it was someone else's child and he had no obligation to care.
But he had promised Ella he would help find her.
Since they were getting divorced, he naturally wanted to safely return Aurora to Ella.
Another children's hospital.
When Joshua arrived, Aurora had just woken up.
Aurora was surrounded by strangers, and with her body hurting so much, she cried hard in distress.
The doctors and nurses gathered around her trying to comfort her, but nothing worked.
Seeing Joshua arrive, the doctor hurried over to report, "Mr. Thomas, you're finally here. Your mother won't allow us to continue treating this child. After waking up, the child has been crying from pain and discomfort. What should we do..."
Joshua said with a stern face, "Ignore what my mother says. Give her the best treatment."
Hearing Aurora's weak crying, he felt his heart wrench. He stepped forward to take a look.
Aurora had gotten even thinner than before, her face pale, her eyes lifeless.
Big tears kept falling.
Joshua felt strangely moved and was about to lean over to comfort her when Aurora saw him and immediately sat up and lunged toward him.
Her little mouth called out softly, "Daddy, Daddy hold me."
That one word "Daddy" nearly melted Joshua's heart.
He gently picked Aurora up in his arms. Seeing how sick and pitiful she looked, he softly comforted her, "Why are you crying? Does it hurt a lot? Should I have the doctor check on you?"
Aurora shook her head, raised her hands to circle Joshua's neck, burrowed into his neck, and said in a soft voice, "I don't want to be apart from Daddy. I want to stay with Daddy forever."
Joshua's body stiffened.
He didn't know what to do with Aurora for a moment.
He also didn't understand why Aurora woke up calling him daddy.
He clearly wasn't her father.
Who Aurora's father was, perhaps even Ella herself couldn't figure out.
After all, that woman was with Michael one moment, then with Zachary the next.
There wasn't a more loose woman in the world.
"Mr. Thomas, you know what, this child really does look like you."
Standing nearby, Brian heard Aurora's words and compared her with Joshua.
They really did look alike.
Just as he was about to say more, Joshua shot him a cold look.
"If you can't say anything useful, no one's treating you as mute."
He knew Aurora was born by Ella abroad and had nothing to do with him.
How could she look like him?
That Ella was heartless. She would have children for others but never for him.
He didn't hope for it anymore. He put Aurora back on the bed.
But Aurora held tightly onto his neck and wouldn't let go, crying pitifully again, "I don't want to be apart from Daddy. I want Daddy."
"Aurora hurts. I want Daddy to hold me."
Joshua was somewhat helpless and explained gently, "Aurora, I'm not your daddy. Your mommy and I are getting divorced. You need to get better quickly and go back to her."
Aurora seemed not to understand, shaking her head and continuing to cry, refusing to get down from him.
Hearing the word "mommy," she wasn't in a hurry to find Ella either.
Brian carefully spoke up, "Should I call Mrs. Thomas over?"
Joshua's voice turned cold again, "Don't call her Mrs. Thomas anymore. We're about to get divorced. Contact her to come over."
After all, she wasn't his child. He had no need to stay here with Aurora.
But right now Aurora wouldn't get down from him, so he could only keep holding her while the doctor gave her an IV.
With Joshua's permission, Brian quickly contacted Ella.
Hearing she could finally see Aurora, Ella asked Zachary to stay at Tranquil Villa to look after Dorian, and she rushed to the children's hospital.
By the time she arrived, it was afternoon.
When she walked into the hospital room, she happened to see Joshua holding Aurora while sitting on the bed.
That scene made Ella feel, in a daze, that it was somewhat warm.
But her heart was always worried about Aurora. Ella rushed over calling, "Aurora."
Thinking it had been almost several months since she'd seen Aurora, and now seeing her so thin, Ella quickly raised her hands to take her from Joshua's arms.
But before she could take Aurora away, Aurora started crying again.
She cried while tightly gripping Joshua's clothes, shaking her head and calling, "I don't want to be apart from Daddy. I want Daddy, I want Daddy."
Ella was somewhat shocked.
Aurora hadn't seen her for months, didn't miss her, and was actually clinging to Joshua.
She felt a bit hurt and coaxed gently, "Aurora, be good. Mommy's here. Let Mommy hold you, okay?"
"No, I want Daddy. I only want Daddy."
Aurora still wouldn't let go, crying harder and harder.
Ella panicked a bit and looked at Joshua, "What's going on? Doesn't she remember me?"
Joshua didn't know what was happening either. It was strange that Aurora wanted him and not Ella.
He also tried to coax Aurora, "Aurora, she's your mommy. Stay with her. Uncle has to go now."
"No, I don't want to be apart from Daddy. I only want Daddy."
Aurora held onto Joshua and wouldn't let go, not even glancing at Ella.
This behavior was as if she didn't remember having a mother.
Ella was afraid Aurora had lost her memory. Seeing the doctor come in, she quickly asked, "Doctor, what's wrong with Aurora? Why doesn't she remember me, her mother?"
The doctor quickly stepped forward to examine Aurora.
Finally, he came to a conclusion. He turned to Joshua and Ella and said, "This child's head injury is serious. She may have intermittent memory loss and doesn't remember some things. You need to take good care of her. She'll get better in time."
