Chapter 83
Ella stared at Scarlett in shock, barely able to believe what she was hearing.
Aiden didn't die from anger over her confession—it was Scarlett who pulled out his oxygen tube?
With so many people in the Thomas family, how could they let an adopted daughter from the Lewis family get away with killing Aiden?
How could she be so heartless? Wasn't she afraid of divine punishment and karma?
Ella suddenly went crazy, completely losing her mind. She grabbed Scarlett's arms and screamed hysterically, "I'll never forgive you! Give me back my grandfather!"
Scarlett sneered, raising the dagger in her hand. As she prepared to stab Ella, she deliberately taunted, "Since you care so much about your grandfather, go to hell and keep him company!"
But she didn't actually stab down.
Seeing the dagger, Ella completely lost her mind. She snatched the dagger and stabbed Scarlett without hesitation.
Feeling one stab wasn't enough, she pulled it out and stabbed again viciously.
Only when she saw blood flowing from Scarlett's abdomen and noticed the smile on Scarlett's lips did Ella realize she'd been set up.
Even knowing she'd been tricked, thinking about what happened to her and Aurora, thinking about Aiden's death, she still felt Scarlett deserved to die.
Even if it cost her own life, she had to send Scarlett to hell.
Steeling herself, Ella pulled out the dagger and plunged it hard into Scarlett's chest.
On the third stab, Scarlett finally couldn't take it anymore and collapsed.
At that moment, hotel staff rushed over. Seeing the scene before them, they immediately called the police.
Joshua, Mason, and Zachary, who had been outside discussing business, rushed back to the hotel.
But they were still a step too late.
Ella was taken away by the police.
Scarlett was rushed to the hospital, her life hanging in the balance.
The man who tried to rape Ella had escaped.
Learning that Ella had committed murder, Joshua first went to the hospital to check on Scarlett.
Scarlett was severely injured and still in emergency surgery, so he rushed to the police station.
In the interrogation room at the police station, Joshua saw Ella, still covered in bloodstains.
She was curled up in a corner, trembling all over, her eyes empty.
She looked like her soul had been sucked out, appearing utterly pitiful.
No matter how angry Joshua was about Ella killing someone, this wasn't the time to lecture her. He walked over, crouched down in front of her, and asked, "Why did you kill Scarlett, Ella? This is Eldoria. Do you know that what you did means you can never go back home, never see your children again?"
He knew Ella hated Scarlett's existence, but how could she be cruel enough to kill someone?
If Scarlett died, Ella wouldn't survive either—a life for a life.
Ella lifted her eyes, looking at Joshua with an unfocused gaze, tears streaming down.
"Joshua, grandfather was killed by Scarlett. Aurora and I were kidnapped and almost died—that was also arranged by Scarlett."
Ella suddenly grabbed Joshua excitedly, desperately trying to explain, "You know what? When I woke up, she had a man come to assault me, then she provoked me into attacking her."
"Joshua, call the police and have Scarlett arrested. She deserves to die. You can't let her live, understand?"
Looking at her state, Joshua's heart sank.
He asked again to make sure, "So you really did kill her?"
Ella didn't answer directly. "Is she dead? If she's not dead, go kill her. She pulled out grandfather's oxygen tube—that's why he died."
"Ella."
Seeing that Ella had truly lost it and was rambling, Joshua shouted, "I know better than you how grandfather died. Scarlett is such a weak person—how could she possibly kidnap you and Aurora?"
"It seems you're truly stubborn. To keep her from being with me, you were this cruel to her. You have such a vicious heart."
Joshua shook off Ella and stood up, cold and merciless.
"Just stay here. You're so stubborn, I can't save you."
Seeing him about to leave, Ella rushed forward and grabbed his leg.
"It's not like that, Joshua. I'm telling the truth. Scarlett killed grandfather. She had people kidnap my Aurora. Just investigate and you'll know."
"Enough."
Joshua kicked her away. "I know better than you what kind of person Scarlett is."
"As for you, to leave me, you really will stop at nothing."
He truly felt Ella was beyond help. There was no point continuing this conversation.
He needed to get back to the hospital to check on Scarlett.
If Scarlett really died, Ella could forget about ever going back home.
Joshua left the police station and returned to the hospital.
Right after he left, Zachary appeared before Ella.
He was like a beam of light, illuminating Ella's dark, collapsed world once again.
Ella looked up at him, tears still filling her eyes.
Zachary crouched down and pulled her into his arms, comforting her gently, "I believe you wouldn't hurt someone for no reason. You must have had your reasons, right?"
"Don't be afraid. I have the power to protect you. You just need to tell me the truth."
This country was under his control, after all.
Protecting one person was no problem at all.
Besides, Ella was the first love he'd never been able to have.
If he couldn't even protect the woman he loved, what kind of love was that?
Ella froze.
She could hardly believe that the man she deeply loved, the man she'd been with for years, had no trust in her at all and only cared about an outsider.
Yet this Zachary holding her now was someone she'd rejected many times.
Without her explaining a single word, he believed her unconditionally.
Ella found it laughable.
How blind must she have been to fall in love with a man like Joshua?
She steadied her emotions and told Zachary everything that happened, down to the last detail.
After hearing it, Zachary looked her over carefully, his face full of concern.
"Did that bastard hurt you anywhere? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?"
Ella could tell he was genuinely worried about her.
She shook her head. "I'm fine, but I want Scarlett dead, even if it costs me my life."
She had to avenge Aiden.
Otherwise, as long as Scarlett lived, Aiden wouldn't rest in peace, and neither would she.
Zachary pulled her into his arms again, consoling her, "If you want someone dead, I'll kill them for you. Someone as pure as you shouldn't have blood on your hands."
"Come on, let me take you somewhere else. Even if we're staying at the police station, we should have the most luxurious room."
Zachary had arranged everything before coming in.
In Eldoria, there was no problem money couldn't solve.
The person he wanted to protect—even the grim reaper would have to send them back to him.
Ella obediently followed him.
She'd always known she wasn't good enough for Zachary. Even when Zachary told her he was willing to help raise Aurora and Dorian, she still felt unworthy.
When Joshua contacted her and asked her to come back home, she left without hesitation.
She thought she'd never cross paths with Zachary again in this lifetime, but fate was so wonderful—it brought them together again.
Ella looked at Zachary walking ahead, holding her hand.
She thought, if she could get out of prison alive, if he could make Scarlett die and help her bring Aurora and Dorian over...
Then she would never leave again.
As for Joshua, for the rest of her life, she never wanted anything to do with him again.
