Chapter 84
Scarlett was brought back to life.
Although she was stabbed three times and lost a lot of blood, none of the wounds hit vital organs.
The most serious one was the stab to her chest.
Thanks to the doctors' efforts, Scarlett pulled through and was out of danger.
Mason stayed by her side, heartbroken.
When he saw Joshua arrive, he angrily grabbed Joshua by the collar, furious.
"You keep going back and forth between two women. You know they've always hated each other, and yet you put them together."
"Joshua, if you don't let Ella rot in prison this time, I'm not done with you."
Joshua was also annoyed.
How was he supposed to know Ella would be bold enough to actually kill someone?
When he came over, he had checked the hotel surveillance footage.
The footage showed that Scarlett was holding the knife, but it was Ella who grabbed it and stabbed Scarlett.
Now they could only wait for Scarlett to wake up and give her statement to determine whether Ella intended to kill or was acting in self-defense.
Joshua pushed Mason aside, expressionless. "Don't jump to conclusions before the facts are clear."
Ella's motive was that Scarlett had caused Aiden's death.
And the incident with her and Aurora before was also arranged by Scarlett.
Joshua walked past Mason and stood by the bed, looking at Scarlett lying unconscious. He wondered, could it really be as Ella said?
Was Scarlett really that vicious?
But the Scarlett he knew was gentle, generous, and understanding.
It couldn't be as Ella said.
Ella had changed completely since going abroad to study.
Not only did she have children for someone else, she also lied constantly and was deceitful by nature.
This time, she must have wanted to meet Zachary secretly and hurt someone when Scarlett tried to stop her.
Joshua thought Ella should stay in prison for a while to fix her character.
Otherwise, she would only become more and more out of control.
That evening, Scarlett woke up.
Opening her eyes to see the two men she loved most by her bed, her lips curved into a satisfied smile.
But when they noticed she was awake, Scarlett immediately acted like she was in terrible pain. Tears welled up in her eyes as she said weakly, "Joshua, Mason, I'm not dead?"
Mason quickly leaned forward, stroking her comfortingly. "You're fine, just lost a lot of blood. You'll be better after some rest."
Scarlett breathed a sigh of relief.
She knew it—Ella couldn't kill her, but she could make sure Ella stayed here forever and never returned home.
Later, she would send someone to get rid of Ella, and then no one would compete with her for Joshua anymore.
Joshua's handsome face was cold, his eyes sharp.
He asked Scarlett, "Why did Ella hurt you, and why were you carrying a knife?"
He had to figure out what kind of woman Scarlett really was.
No matter how bad Ella was, she was still his wife.
Even if Ella had to pay for what she did, there had to be enough evidence to prove her crime.
Before Scarlett could speak, Mason said angrily, "Joshua, don't go too far. Can't you see Scarlett just woke up and needs rest?"
Scarlett also acted weak, deliberately seeming too uncomfortable to speak.
Joshua didn't push her. He left his words, "Then rest first. When you've rested enough and can talk, I'll come back to ask you."
He turned and left. He still needed to check on things at the police station.
To make sure Ella wasn't suffering in there.
Even though she deserved it, she was still young, and had barely survived coming back before.
Either way, he still didn't want Ella to be in any danger.
Scarlett didn't try to keep him.
This was exactly when Joshua should go figure things out. Then she could add some details later, which would only confirm Ella's crimes even more.
No matter what, she had to make sure Ella never came back this time.
After Joshua disappeared, Mason looked at Scarlett with deep, troubled eyes.
"Can you tell me the truth?"
If it really was Ella's crime, he would make sure Ella never got out of prison.
If it was a trap Scarlett set up, then she was beyond help.
From now on, he wouldn't care about anything that happened to her.
The Lewis family would just pretend they never raised her.
Scarlett cried delicately. "Mason, didn't you check the surveillance? Ella said she wanted fruit, so I went downstairs to get a knife from the staff to peel an apple for her. But when I got to the door, Ella rushed out."
"I didn't know what was happening. I asked her what was wrong, but she didn't say anything. She just grabbed my knife and stabbed me."
Scarlett continued acting uncomfortable, too weak to go on.
Mason, seeing she didn't seem to be lying, immediately changed his attitude and comforted her gently, "If it's Ella's fault, I'll make her pay. Just focus on getting better."
At the police station.
Ella was moved to a luxury holding cell.
Not only were there snacks and treats, but also air conditioning and a TV.
Zachary stayed with her during the police questioning.
Given the Baker family's influence, the police didn't even dare speak too loudly.
After the questions, they told Ella to rest well. They had already caught the man who broke into the room and tried to assault her.
After the police left, Zachary handed Ella a cup of coffee and reassured her, "Don't worry, I'll make sure you get justice."
Ella nodded. As she held the coffee and drank, she felt warm inside.
They say true friendship shows in hard times.
At this moment, with Zachary standing by her side unconditionally, preparing everything for her, she was so moved she didn't know what to say.
And Joshua?
Her husband—what was he doing?
Probably with Scarlett right now, worried sick about her!
How could she have been so stupid before, knowing Joshua didn't have her in his heart, yet still falling in love with him?
This time, as long as she could get divorced, she would definitely take her children back to Eldoria and never have anything to do with Joshua again.
"Ella, do you want a divorce? If you do, I'll help you."
Zachary suddenly asked.
Earlier, Ella had told him everything that happened to her and the two children in Emerald City this past year.
He hadn't expected her to marry that old man Joshua.
Not only was Joshua old, he treated her badly too.
Zachary felt sorry for her.
His beloved Ella—how could she suffer so much?
He had to rescue her from this situation.
Ella answered without hesitation, "I've always wanted a divorce, but Joshua won't agree."
"Do you love Joshua?" Zachary asked again.
Ella didn't hesitate for even half a second. Firmly, she said, "No."
However, their entire conversation was heard word for word by Joshua at the door.
Joshua, about to push the door open, froze with his hand in mid-air.
His heart suddenly felt like it was being pricked with needles, a dense, stabbing pain.
In the end, he didn't push the door open or disturb the two people inside. He turned and left.
Sitting back in his car, Joshua gripped the steering wheel tightly.
Ella really didn't love him anymore.
She really wanted to escape from him that badly.
