Chapter 106
Listening to the information Joshua gave her, Ella felt dazed.
The Lewis family's lost daughter was about her age, and she had the exact same golden key as Mason.
Since childhood, Finn had told her that her parents were far away, and he didn't know when they would come back either.
Later, when she grew up, Ella assumed her parents had passed away and that Finn didn't want her to be sad, so he said they were far away.
After that, she never asked about her parents again.
Ella didn't dare think about what kind of blood relation she might have with Mason.
That golden key pendant might just be a souvenir.
Maybe lots of people had them.
She shouldn't overthink it.
The doctor finished treating her wound, packed up, and left.
Joshua sat down beside her and asked seriously, "Did Mason bring you from Tranquil Villa?"
He had already asked Brian to call the police to arrest Mason for intentional assault.
Although the police couldn't do much to Mason over this minor injury, he still needed to teach him a lesson.
And that Scarlett, usually so gentle and well-mannered, how could she be cruel enough to want to hurt Ella?
If he had arrived a moment later, Ella might have been hurt even worse.
Ella lied, "I wasn't feeling well so I came to the hospital for a check-up. I ran into Mason at the entrance, and he dragged me to Scarlett's room."
Since she had called him, he probably knew what happened.
Joshua didn't think much of it and softened his voice to comfort her, "If you're not feeling well, I can have Samuel come see you. Why come to the hospital yourself?"
"If you hadn't called me, and I'd come later, you might have died at the hands of those siblings. Don't worry, I'll make sure you get justice."
Ella avoided his touch. She felt her mind was still clear, so there was no need to be hospitalized.
She got out of bed to leave, "Take me back."
Joshua reached out to support her.
On the way back to Tranquil Villa, Ella asked curiously again, "The Lewis family lost a daughter. Did they look for her? Or did they stop caring about the lost daughter once they had Scarlett?"
She knew the key pendant might be sold in many places and many people might have one.
It was probably just a coincidence that she and Mason both had one.
But she just couldn't help wanting to know more about the Lewis family's situation.
Joshua drove while glancing at Ella.
Hearing her asking about the Lewis family again, he didn't understand but patiently told her, "The Lewis family did search. They searched like crazy in the first few years after she went missing. Rhea was severely depressed over this for a long time."
"You probably don't know this, but although Scarlett looks glamorous on the surface, the Lewis family couple doesn't really like her because they've always felt that their daughter's disappearance was Scarlett's fault."
"If Mason hadn't been protecting Scarlett all along, she would have been kicked out of the Lewis family long ago."
That was also why he used to sympathize with Scarlett and was good to her.
Maybe after all this time, the Lewis family couple had started to accept Scarlett.
Ella stared at the passenger seat back, thinking about Joshua's words.
Could the Lewis family daughter have been lost because of Scarlett?
With someone like Scarlett, she might really do something like that.
Because she probably thought that without the Lewis family daughter, she would become the Lewis family daughter and take over everything.
Seeing that Joshua was about to drop her off at Tranquil Villa, Ella changed her mind, "Can you take me to see Dorian? I want to be with Dorian."
With Scarlett not around, there was no need for her to deal with Joshua.
Every second she spent with him, she felt unbearably miserable inside.
She had to think of another way to provoke Scarlett into revealing the truth about how she hurt people.
"That's fine. With Dorian keeping you company, I'll feel better."
Joshua didn't refuse and turned the car around.
After dropping Ella off at the door, seeing that it was Zachary who opened it, he felt inexplicably sad.
Especially when Ella went inside without even greeting him or inviting him in to rest, walking away without looking back.
He wanted to remind her of a few things but stopped himself.
Zachary stood at the door with a stern face and asked, "Does Mr. Thomas have anything else?"
Joshua realized that Zachary was Dorian's father, and since he was still married to Scarlett, he had no right to control who Ella spent time with.
Although he still cared about Ella being with Zachary, he didn't say anything and turned to leave.
Zachary closed the door and walked toward the living room to ask Ella, "How did you hurt your head?"
Ella took the key pendant from around Dorian's neck and carefully thought about the key Mason had.
The two keys seemed like they could fit together to form one key.
And not all key pendants were the same.
So was it a coincidence that she and Mason had the same key pendant, or was there some connection?
Ella was deep in thought and didn't hear what Zachary was saying.
Until Dorian called out to her, "Mom, is there something wrong with this key? You keep staring at it."
"And how did you get hurt again? Is it serious? Who hurt you?"
Ella came back to her senses and told Dorian, "Mom's fine. Can Mom keep this? I'll buy you a nicer one later."
Dorian didn't care at all, "You gave it to me in the first place, Mom. If you want it, just take it. When I make money, I'll buy you an even bigger one."
Ella put away the key, patted Dorian's head, and looked at Zachary, "What did you just say?"
Zachary sat down beside her, "I asked how you hurt your head. Did Joshua do it?"
After all, Ella's attitude toward Joshua just now wasn't good.
Unless she had some disagreement with Joshua, at this critical point when Ella needed to use Joshua to get revenge on Scarlett, she definitely wouldn't turn against him.
"No, Mason did it."
Ella looked at Zachary again, "You know Mason too, don't you?"
If they could discuss business deals with Zachary, they must know each other.
Even though she knew that having the same key as Mason might just be a coincidence, she couldn't help wanting to do a paternity test.
"Not well. We were just considering working together before, but it was canceled. Why did Mason hurt you?"
It seemed he needed to assign someone to secretly protect Ella. The way she kept getting into trouble and getting hurt, what if she lost her life one day?
He couldn't listen to Ella; he had to do things his own way.
"Because I hurt Scarlett pretty badly too."
Ella didn't care about the wound on her head.
Her mind was full of thoughts about Mason and Joshua, afraid they might have some connection to her.
Afraid Joshua might be her child's father.
Right now she just wanted revenge and didn't want to have any ties with them in the future.
At the hospital.
Joshua came to Scarlett's room, his face cold as ice, "If I hadn't shown up, were you and Mason planning to destroy Ella?"
Mason had already been taken to the police station.
But in less than two days, the Lewis family would definitely bail him out.
What he needed to do now was use this opportunity to break off the engagement with Scarlett.
"No, Joshua, it's not what you saw. Mason was protecting me and wanted to get revenge for me. I was afraid he would hurt Ella, so I just grabbed the knife from him when you arrived."
Scarlett tried hard to explain.
