UNKNOWN TRAITOR
UNKNOWN TRAITOR
Damien’s pov
“Positions!” I barked.
Anderson and the others scattered immediately, taking cover and watching every angle. I moved toward the window, scanning the perimeter, but saw nothing.
What the hell is going on? I stepped out as I saw one of my men walking like nothing had just happened.
“What happened?” I demanded but before he could speak, I heard a voice behind.
“It was from our men, Boss. We found him,” he said, breathing heavily.
“Found who?” I demanded, turning to face Anderson, who was already close.
“It was one of our men. He fired the shot.”
“Why?” I asked, furrowing my brows.
“Said he thought he saw movement near the fence,” Anderson replied.
“Turns out it was just a stray dog.”
I exhaled sharply, rubbing my temples.
“A dog?”
“Yes, sir. No other movement from the other side. Everything’s quiet now.”
“South wing?” I asked.
“Clear, Boss,” he responded.
“North?” I asked again.
I needed to be sure.
“Clear, Boss,” Anderson said.
I nodded slowly, but the tension in my chest didn’t ease.
“Tell him to get his head straight next time. The last thing we need is panic among the men.”
Anderson nodded. “Understood.”
“Search the entire area anyway,” I ordered.
“Every corner. If Gid’s testing our alertness, I want him to know we’re ready.”
“Yes, Boss.”
The men fanned out again, checking the fences, the watchtowers, and the fields beyond.
They found nothing; no sign of movement.
Anderson returned.
“Perimeter’s clear. No trace of anyone,” he said.
I gave a short nod.
“Good. Pull everyone back to their posts,” I instructed.
“Yes, Boss,” he answered.
As the men returned to their positions, I turned, heading toward my office.
I entered my office, closing the door behind me.
I lowered myself into my chair and stared at the ceiling.
False alarm or not, something wasn’t right.
That gunshot might have been an accident… but it sure made my heart race.
I reached for the whiskey bottle and poured myself a glass.
I gulped it down.
Whoever shot that gun almost gave me a heart attack.
I took my phone and unlocked it.
Celine had sent a message.
Damien, I'll be clearing my chat together. I just thought I’d tell you first. Can you believe I was almost framed for the attack I told you about, and the only way to prove my innocence was by revealing our chat, which we know is impossible. But to cut the long story short, they've found out I'm not responsible, and the Alpha apologized. I hope you're doing fine?.
Framed for something she knew nothing about? These werewolves are insane. Well, I shouldn’t be surprised, after all, they still remain fantasy to me. They aren’t real, just beasts pretending to be human.
I began typing back:
Hey Celine, I truly can’t imagine what it's like living with people who should've remained myths.Just be careful, and you can delete the chat. I think we should make more calls. I clicked send.
Be careful, Celine. This revenge game has taken too much already, but we can’t stop now, not when we’ve come so far. What the fuk am I saying? I know you won’t listen to me; you’ve always been so obstinate.
I clicked out of her chat, then I saw Gid’s last message; the two days warning.
“Asshole, we’re still waiting.” I exhaled as I clicked into his chat.
Then I began typing:
Hey Gid, or Lorenzo, or whatever you call yourself. In your message, you threatened to attack today, but till now we haven’t seen your footprint, not to mention seeing you. Do you think we care if you attack or not? It’s not our business. We have far more sensible things to do than that. But to think of you giving a threat and fixing a date when you know fully well that you’re afraid of us and we aren’t someone to toil with. Get this into that thick, dull brain of yours: we’re the Moretti Empire. We fear no one. Instead, you should be the one afraid of us, and you’ve already proven that you are. Forget about Sina; he’s dead and gone. Get your head straight.
Yeah, that should do it. Let him get mad, that’s his problem. I clicked on send and put the phone down.
I’m still worried. Is Anderson really up to something? But why would he want to go against the Empire? He has assisted in many ways and earned my trust. I shouldn’t doubt him, but his recent behavior is making me doubt him.
The captive definitely knows something. He’s hiding something, and I’ll make him speak up.
Then I heard a beep; a new message had come in.
“Oh, Gid,” I muttered, picking up my phone.
Truly, the message was from him. I unlocked my phone.
Hello Damien. I was told you’re nothing but a lapdog. I guess they’re wrong. I must commend you; you've got guts. You dare to send such a childish message to me. I’m sure you don’t know who I am. Ask your captive; he'll tell you. About my name, you keep calling me Gid or Lorenzo. Well, just so you know, people around me know me as Lorenzo, but my enemies all know me as Gid. And we both know we’re enemies, and my enemies don’t live to call me Lorenzo, they all die knowing me as Gid. You also mentioned I should forget about revenge, that Sina is dead and gone. I find that line very funny. I need to put it straight to you: I won’t stop until you’re dead… gone… and forgotten. This isn't a threat but a promise.
He’s pissed. But how does he know I haven’t killed the man I captured or has someone told him that too? I don’t think so.
Another message came in from him.
And besides, don’t you think the man in your custody has pleaded long enough? He looks battered already. You’re just a funny man, Damien. You claim to be fearless, yet the gunshot of your own men makes you panic.
He still has someone feeding him information.
